Don't spoil it for him big fella, he still believes in Santa. Best to leave him be.

I think you have me wrong Wiseblood.

If you think I'm going to cry if he goes to Geelong you got another think coming.

I'm just saying that as Jackson and Roos said, don't listen to the noise, just wait till something actually happens.

I'm philosophical and would love to get a good player to the club, whether it be Hartlett, Prestia, Dangerfield , who ever.

But I ain't gonna lose any sleep over it pal.

I love the delusional posters who keep telling themselves the line of 'it's not done till it's done'. Go on, hold on to that dream if it helps you sleep at night.

The rest of us live in reality.

I'm one of those posters.

Yeah danger may not arrive at Melbourne but could you imagine the egg on those faces if he does. Will sit back and enjoy if this does happen. Almost hoping it does tbh!

Almost hoping????

Would laugh if he goes to the Hawks.

Five in a row.

I'd prefer he did, it'd be hilarious.

And I hate that this is constantly used a reference point for any trades on here.

Clark wanted money, and when we offered him a truck full of money he was only happy to come here. We all know what sort of bloke he is now which only backs up his decision to 'spurn' his family for money in Melbourne.

Dangerfield is totally different. It's family in Geelong or his family in Adelaide. He has no reason to play for us. Money is a non factor to him as he will be well paid by the club and through endorsements he gets in the city.

Lying might be the second language of the AFL but delusion seems to be the first language of this board sometimes. He isn't coming to Melbourne.

if someone offered me double the amount of money when my career will be over at 30 I know where I would be going.

Not saying it will happen but if we are offering him 1.5 mill that would be pretty hard to pass up.

If you believe Geelong and their talk that they won't alter their pay scale for PD he will earn $800,000 maximum at the Cats. We could offer at least $200,000 more a year and potentially up to 5-600k more than that. I know I'd be telling my manager to listen. I'd be prepared to drive a little further to visit mum and dad at Moggs Creek one Sunday a month for that coin.

If Danger was any chance to come here, he would've done it for the same money last year when the best possible draft compensation was offered to the Crows via our trade offer.

Or he takes another 12 months to assess his options and see if a club that won just 4 games in 2014 shows any improvement and appears to be on the right track.

Our massive interest in Prestia suggests we knew he wasnt coming to the red and blue

Our massive interest in Prestia is because he is a gun. We could snare Danger (not going to happen) as a FA and use our first pick on Prestia and then we're probably a finals side next year with those two fit and firing.

Paul Connors already declared it's a two horse race, Geelong or Adelaide. That's as good as confirmation for me.

Stop listening to player managers. I put them in the same boat as real estate agents. They'll lie all day to ensure they get the most money for themselves.

Yeah I remember Tom Scallys manager said he was going nowhere and we all know how that turned out.

Haha good times!

If Danger was any chance to come here we would have had to be looking to trade off a potential gun like Jack Trengove for a first round pick, say pick 12, so that we could satisfy the crows.

Since we didn't try and do that trade its clear that Dangerfield wasn't interested in coming to Melbourne last year.

We did try and trade Trengove for a first rounder last year - it fell through when he failed his medical. We would have gotten a last first rounder that we could have packaged with the one we already had.

I have no doubt there was something cooking there until the trade fell through. Was it Dangerfield? Maybe, but we'll never know.

Sorry wise, I may need to be clearer with my sarcasm in future!

There were big rumbles about us and Dangerfield last year. There was no way we weren't getting Brayshaw so we were defs keeping a top 3 pick. All the rumors suggest we put an offer on the table for Dangerfield. We know that Trengove for 12 was a done deal if he passed the medical.

I think it is much more likely that we were looking to secure pick 12 to on trade for a player than looking to stock up on first round picks.

Following on from lamashtu, perhaps we were willing to part with picks 2 and 3 for Dangerfield if we were able to get a kid in Lever?

Would be interesting to know what happened last year; there were so many conflicting rumours about who we were after, it's hard to know what was true and what was rubbish.

I'll take Roos at face value and assume that the club was equally as happy to give up 2 or 3 for established mids as they were to get Brayshaw/Petracca/McCartin in the draft. That's the kind of draft that sets up a club for 10 years. The problem is, no other clubs or players were prepared to take the bait after our pathetic end to the season (justifiably so).

Not sure if it was GNF that said it, but the reports at the time indicated Petracca/Brayshaw/Cockatoo/Lever were our preferred targets but there were question marks on the latter two due to injury/not enough playing time. Considering Lever went at 14, the attempted trade for Trengove (pick 12) would indicate we had our hearts set on Lever.

That's the long and short behind our chances to get him this year.

For the record, they're zilch. Get over it and move on. There are other players we're pursuing with vigour this time and, like Dangerfield last year, in with a decent shot to nab them.

What a disloyal traitor you are. I bet you old employer is sickened by your greedy attitude.

But I'm sure his current employer was quite happy with his new resource.

What an odd thing to say?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
