Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Nathan Jones not named in AA 40

I'm pretty sure they said on 3AW tonight that the squad hasn't been chosen that way this year - to fill positions.

They've picked the best 40 in the league, not a balanced team sort of thing.

As I said earlier, I don't think he is in the top 40 in the comp either.

For what it's worth I think Jones is a very much admired player in the football world, I know some of my mates rate him as their favourite player outside their own teams.

Should he be top 40 this year, well it's a tough field to make it as a mid.

I think the Ellis selection is interesting. As usual the footy experts forget quickly but early in the season he was one that they were canning for not coming on this year, one of the big reasons for the Tiger failure. He was being tagged out of games but has been off the leash in the 2nd half of the season.

I have alway rated Ellis but I think he has been pushed up on the Tigers bandwagon at the moment. I'm interested to see what Hinkley does with him this week, I know Roos ran a hard tag (Cross) against him and cut his effectiveness completely. He is a key to the Tiges though.

Rambling a bit but at the end of the day this doesn't really matter and as someone else posted just shows how poor our list is. I don't expect the drop kick Evans or his mate wimpy Gil along with their intrepid leader of integrity Mr compromised Fitzpatrick to do anything though.

People use how many disposals Jones got as a point that he should have made the squad, I'd like to know of those disposals how many were little runs around the back of players where he then had to rush the disposal.

What % hit the target etc

Flat numbers saying he got the ball the second highest in the league or where ever means nothing if your efficiency is way down and or you only did 15 meter chips to no real advantage.

For us I think Jones was consistent most of the year but I think Tyson influenced more games.

And think Dunn should have been close.

He's our best player but he's not actually much good.

He'd struggle to be in the Hawks best 22. Gets the ball a lot but provides little run and simply isn't damaging enough. Great midfielders influence a match no matter how bad a team is. If was as great as many here think he'd have taken matches like Brissie, Bulldogs, Saints by the balls. He doesnt. I really love Jonesy and want nothing more than for him to earn a premiership trophy, but hes no superstar. It takes watching a lot of footy to know this.

Having him as your best player (by far) is *not* a good thing.

I thought he was borderline to get in and to be honest, don't give a rats about purely subjective awards like the brownlow or AA. However these two posts make me shake my head. There is little doubt in my mind that he would get a gig in any other club in the AFL.

How can Ablett be in it still? He only played 15 games this year, yeah in those 15 he was great but there was 8 games where he got 0 stats.....zero, nada, zip, zilch...and you still get selected based on how good he was before he was injured...what a joke.

#2 in the AFL for total disposals

#3 in the AFL for total clearances

#1 in the AFL for effective disposals

should win his third consecutive club best and fairest

Nathan Jones should have been rewarded for his year, also to the person suggesting he wouldn't get a game at the Hawks, you're kidding yourself, he's a walk up start to any other club in the AFL without a moments doubt.

Because he is the best player in the game and those 15 games are probably better than most players 22 games. He is still a big chance to take the Brownlow, it would be embarrassing for the medalist not to be AA.

I agree, he is the best player in the comp, WHEN HE IS PLAYING! So if he played 10 games he should get it based on his previous form? Even though he missed more than half the season? Biggest load of crap ive ever heard. And there is no way he will win the brownlow, he may be in the lead at the end of round 15 but i bet he doesn't get any more votes after that!

15 games is enough..he hasn't missed more than half the season or played only 10 games and that is why he is in. I wouldn't count him out of the Brownlow yet either. The only player to have as consistent a year is Fyfe and he missed 4 games and is ineligible. Should he be AA playing only 18 games?

For all the reasons listed above and more, Nathan Jones has been clearly one of the best 40 players in the competition this season and obviously suffers from playing in a team that nobody outside us cares about.

It's infuriating that 'team played for' seems to have become one of the criteria for selection.

I don't believe that

I don't believe posters get so worked up over a purely subjective assessment. I have biases, we see journalists have their biases so of course the selectors will have their tinted glasses as well.

Perhaps it stems from the club being verbally trodden on by virtually every 'expert' (most of the time, it's justified) but then never receiving any kind of positive when it is warranted.

I'm kind of annoyed for Nathan. How much more can he do?

Django the Football world owes us nothing

The spot we find ourselves in is 90% of our own creation the last decade has been a disaster for the MFC

Only success on the Park will fix that.

Suck in your gut and be prepared for at least another three years before the tide turns.

Then the media will view us differently until then the shambles tag will remain.

In the case of just saying this guy should be in and this guy should be out, I back up my argument with the following and not just for JONES

  • JONES should be in over ELLIS/WARD or LIBBA
  • HANLEY should be in over Nick SMITH and debatable but I’d have him in over GIBBS
  • RANCE/LONEGRAN/TAYLOR/SMITH WTF make a tough decision you need 3 tall defenders you have HOOKER, TALIA & McKENZIE clearly as the best 3 pick 1 more and put them in the squad you don’t need them all in
  • Same with the forwards FRANKLIN/RIEWODLT/ROUGHEAD then you go for medium to small forwards GUNSTAN deserves spot in the squad but the final team IMO would have GRAY, BRUEST & BALLANTYNE ahead of him so no need for Jay SCHULZ
  • Ben MCGLYNN has had an outstanding season and should be added in ahead of Jay SCHULZ and probably Boomer HARVEY again IMO MCGLYNN goes in and they choose 1 from HARVEY and BETTS
  • And if they want to run with the idea of naming the players in certain positions why do they only go for 1 recognised ruckman, JACOBS IMO is the AA and ROUGHIE plays as the pinchitting Ruck/Forward but RYDER has earnt the spot in the 40

I love jonesy as much as all dees supporters do and should but a midfield spot in the AA is the hardest spot to get into. There's only '3' midfield posistions available plus wings and they even throw mids onto the flanks now! And as much as I love jonesy you can name 8-10 better mids than him.

Sensible Party.....

Hey bloke are you in a time warp stuck in the 80's or referring to the local footy down the road. FMB 3 mids plus 2 wings, its 2014 you need no less than 12 mids per 22 side, everyone is a midfielder. You probably need a stay at home Full Forward in your side as well.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
