We can only trump their offer in money. If that's what he is after then, if we make a play for him, we are a chance. Otherwise we really have nothing else to offer right now as a club that would trump anything Port have to offer.

Plus, if I'm a 27 year old and have port and collingwood playing tug of war for my services I'm not wasting any time on offers from melbourne unless they're about $200k per season better than the other offers.

One of the people we had dinner with last night was a Collingwood supporter who remarked that Goldsack's performances in the last 6 to 8 weeks of the season were well below par for him. He seems to think that its possible that the drop off in form could coincide with the offer from Port Adelaide. I thought the idea had a familiar ring about it.

I wouldn't say no to him but I wouldn't be paying him stupid money either. He's a role player not a game changer, unless he had a massively front loaded contract due to cap space there's no way I'd be offering what Port apparently are. Maybe $300k/year definitely not $400K.

Sorry, but what is this obsession everyone has with "swingmen" at the moment? You don't see the better sides worrying about whether their full back can play full forward, they just worry about having the best full back they can possibly have.

Teams like Sydney, Hawthorn and Geelong have a dozen blokes they can push through the midfield, and their team leaders (Hodge, Bartel, etc) will go to wherever they are needed, but you never see them worrying about anything other than getting the best person for each role.

Meanwhile, we waste our time trying to turn an All Australian full back into a centre half forward and our 2013 leading goalscorer into a defender, and wonder why we never improve.

Like Dawes, Goldsack has value as a third or fourth forward, but you certainly can't build a side around him and he is definitely not worth the sort of money that is being suggested.
