Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Just deserts for a season of promise under duress! Good list management!

Can kick a good goal on the run? Hahaha, how many does he miss that he should kick . Lost us a queens birthday game four years ago . Do people actually watch bail every week?

Four years ago? Cripes. Players don't freeze in time - unlike opinions it would seem.

He's kicked 10.4 this year.

Anyone suggesting we didn't keep these 3 needs to tell me how we will replace more than 7 and even up to 9 players (see below) already. So adding these guys would make it 10-12.

Clark, Byrnes, Frawley, Strauss, Tapscott, Blease, Nicholson, ?Evans, ?Clisby

Already just replacing those 7 means:

Picks 2, 3, 20, 38, 56, 74 and PSD 2.

Would we find better players than Bail, Riley and Terlich with picks 80+???

Riley is certainly young enough and promising enough that after a preseason he's worth a shot for 1 or even 2 year deals. I hope the other 2 guys have been kept one 1 year deals as depth flankers for either end.

You're assuming we just straight delist all those guys and replace them all with draft picks. We might trade them out for a pick or player or sign a couple of delisted FA's.

I like Bail. He's not a gun, but he can be effective.

Riley clearly has qualities, but he needs to tighten up a lot, which I think he can/will.

Terlich - I don't know what to think about him. Suppose I'll just defer to the likes of Roos, Stone and Rawlings - they know a lot more about the guy than me, and, relevantly, they are hugely experienced and competent and, I believe, have the best interests of the club in their minds when making such decisions - so yep, I'm cool with this decision too.

Some of the opinions that have been expressed ofnthis thread are quite simply ludicrous. And disappointing.

I don't necessarily mind the resignings but what I don't get is why now? I doubt other clubs would be chasing after them and signing them now just reduces our options. It also gives us less leverage when trying to trade out Blease or Tapscott for instance because other clubs will know we will end up delisting them anyway (because we will only have 6/7 uncontracted and likely to delist them all - if they hadn't figured it out already anyway) so can pick them up for free as delisted FA's.

I'm not surprised at all about Bail, and Riley was probably always going to get at least one more year.

I'm very surprised at Terlich, though. I just don't see a future for him. If you're going to play half-back you have got to be a good user of the ball and a decent defender. I don't rate his one-on-one defending and he's an awful user of the ball (and worse decision-maker).

I'm sure what's worked in his favour is his running, courage, hardness, tackling and team-work, which are all useful traits. Good on him, I hope he cements his spot, but I'm still surprised.

Would it kill the club to release the length of contracts? Maybe no one else gives a stuff about this. Maybe the sound of silence on this is an irritating shriek that can only be heard by myself and a few stray dogs, but it's a pet hate of mine that player contract terms aren't released to the public. It can only add to the overall enjoyment of the fan's experience.

Rant over. I was worried about derailing the thread but it's likely that the next ten posts will be along the lines of "Yeah, I guess Bail and Riley aren't that bad but Terlich couldn't hit Fat Albert on the chest from 10 paces and must go".

The Roos Mantra continues, you put the effort in you get rewarded. Every side has players who can't kick well even the top sides. Yes they have guns who can split the eye of a needle but they are also loaded with hardworkers, for all those bemoaning the kicking of these players

Mattner, Rowan Jones, Chad Jones, Mainwaring, Manson,Wallis, Monkhurst, Worsfold, Roberts-Thompson, Hardwick I'm sure there's more given time I could think of who were not great kicks in fact some were bog ordinary but they all did a job for their sides and all are Premiership players

For a player who was 3rd best n fairest last year.. I've never heard of someone been so hated. At least he has a crack unlike half our flimsy top end darftees over the last 8 years !

Yes I was thinking a couple of Delisted FA's with the last couple of spots. Laughable to think anyone would trade us a useful pick for the likes of Blease, Evans or Tapscott.

While I would probably have delisted Terlich, I have no real problem with his being re-signed as he gives his all and is brave.

There was never any doubt about Bail (who has shown considerable improvement this season) and Riley, who needs a full preseason to show his wares.

I still have faith in the rooster.

I don't thnk hated is the right word. We are going nowhere with DT in the side. Has a crack for sure but his skills and decision making are deplorable. We will miss the chance to improve the team by re-signing him

The fact he was 3rd in the Bluey is an indictment on the whole team from 2013 and somewhat irrelevant.

The other two I understand why thy have been kept. We kept Bail with atrocious disposal. Grimes has atrocious disposal. Ditto McDonald. Half our bleeding team can't kick yet we keep DT. Makes no sense to me.

Yes but you are not Paul Roos and the rest of the footy dept (or are you), Dean Terlich won't give a flying f*** what anybody on here thinks, he has a new contract

I've got a lot of time for Terlich, more so than either Bail or Riley, so I'm pretty happy with that news.

However, Roos has handed out new contracts to Spencer, M.Jones, Jetta, McDonald, Terlich, Riley & Bail so far this year, most of them 2 years. You can't complain about the state of the list and then go around handing out multi year deals to a bunch of C and D grade players, most of whom have been in the system for four years or longer. Particularly given that Jamar, McKenzie and Evans will still be stinking it up next year.

I hope we don't miss out on taking players in the pre season draft because we've moved too quickly resigning this calibre of player.

Perpetuating the myth, Roh Bail's disposal effiiciency has averaged over his time at above 85%, so not rubbish, but keep going.......yawn

Something similair happened when we took Gillies and later had no lisg space for Hannath.

Bail is 26 and is one of the senior players we need to support the youngsters. His strong, comitted to the dees and can kick a good goal on the run as a midfielder.

I would be surprised if he isnt in the leadership group next year. For a pick in the 60s he has definitely pulled his weight

I'm not sure about Terlich, but if we delisted every second year player who can get the ball but then gets into trouble deciding what to do with it, Nathan Jones wouldn't have made it to his third year. I doubt Terlich will turn into another N Jones, but he's a better chance at being turned into a decent player than anyone selected in the draft around pick 70.

The only surprise for me with Riley is that we only signed him for one year in the first place.

And Bail is a no-brainer. Whether supporters like him or not (and I do) it's obvious the coach does given he's played all bar one game this year.

I don't mind the decision to keep Terlich on.

He has had a poor year, and I wouldn't be surprised if he thought Roos didn't like him - and would move him on.

Now Roos has shown faith in Terlich, I would not be surprised to see improvement from him next year.

There are areas that he needs to improve on, but he'll be keen to reward Roos for the faith he shown in him.

My take on Terlich going forward, think Macaffer I reckon, he has a mature body and is hard at it, sit him with Cross and teach him how to negate an opponent but still get a bit of the ball, he has kicked goals (not many) and he seems to be able to run all day, think his days at Half Back are over

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P
