Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Im a massive wrap for this kid. Have not heard anything since he was drafted as he has been injured but he was a very highly rated junior prospect at under 18s level. I rate him more highly then Dom Tyson and he reminds me a lot of Trent Cotchin. He is also another tall midfielder that can play inside or out.

I hope we seriously consider getting into this kids ear at years end about the prospect of joining our football club. I think he will struggle to break into GWS emerging midfield talent because of his injury setbacks but he would add some serious class and talent to our midfield.

Thoughts?

I was shocked when he was taken at pick 2, i thought he'd go even lower than Ollie did, maybe to Richmond at pick 9, he certainly has talent so if he wants to come home i'd certainly make a phone call.

I like this idea and was thinking about him last night.

Seems to be the forgotten one amongst all the GWS mids.

I'd definitely have a crack at him.

He won't get many midfield minutes when stuck behind Coniglio, Treloar, Ward, Kelly, Scully, Palmer, Shiel, Whitfield, Greene, etc.

We also should have a bit of a hand in that regard, as surely Dom Tyson has formed some decent friendships with some of those kids.

One I'd be gunning for moreso is Lachie Plowman.

Tough as teak and a dees supporter as a kid.

Yes, I know it means little, but it all helps.

You read my mind in regards to Plowman! Another one we should have a serious crack because apparently he has bee training with the midfield group as they are trying to turn him into a big bodied midfielder ala David Mundy..

I'd happily trade our 1st Round pick in 2014 for Plowman.

Not sure about O'Rourke's value being so high.

Yes, he was pick 2, but I also thought he went a bit high.

At the same time, issues with Clark & Dawes mean keeping the pick for another tall KPP would be prudent.

With Goddard, McCartin, Durden, etc available, we could be in the box seat.

We are talking about gws mids, what happens to TS when he comes out of contract? As I see it gws IF they keep him will want a massive pay decrease out of him.

His stats arnt all that flash in a winning side, and his skill and football wise being over taken by a lot of better gws mids.

Not sure what to make of O'Rourke haven't seen enough

But he has some speed which we need

Our second round pick might be set aside for Stretch. Not sure what we'd give for O'Rourke. I'll keep a mental note if we don't see him in the season for GWS that he might be an option.

I think they'll look to trade away surplus talls first

Experience and age will make him still important for GWS.

And he'll get paid according to his form with some GWS levy. I doubt anyone will want him much or if he'll be too upset with a standard contract after his mega deal

It really depends on if Plowman is a better prospect than the bloke in the draft, we're essentially getting a first year player either way

What are you talking about?

It's the same of trading pick 2 for Dom Tyson.

We'd essentially get a player around the same talent level, but with 2 years of development already.

Pretty much ready to contribute, as opposed to having to wait.

If we're smart, we'll be right into Plowman.

Hell, put a bit more in there and go for Jaksch at the same time.

I think Plowman and Jaksch for our first round pick is a completely reasonable offer that would satisfy both parties.

Another KPP, and another big body with 2 years development, jeez I'm salivating at the thought.

Light body and without exposed AFL form you'd be careful.

As we know, it's a huge step up.

Something I'd add is remember Jaeger O'Meara was on merits probably pick 1 in that year, Whitfield pick 2, Brad Couch I'd argue as pick 3.

So for O'Rourke as pick 2 and even our own Toumpas as pick 4 are really much more traditional pick 4 and 6. I say that because there's usually only so many elite talents in each draft and the true elite talents are more in top 5 than after that. It's fair to say O'Rourke was a smokey at pick 2 who in reality was a smokey taken as 4th best player from his year bracket.

I can't see him still having a top 10 pick value so far.

Quite right but the theory is sound. We need players with a bit of development and unlike many we are prepared to trade early picks to get that. It also suits the Suns and the Giants list management strategies. Both those clubs will struggle to satisfy all the midfield talent they have so trading it out for early picks allows them to stagger the age profile of their lists whilst retaining the quality.

We are in a good position as most clubs overvalue early picks. Roos doesn't. I think that there is an excellent chance of another Tyson type deal happening and because we are one of the few clubs that will deal we will get good value for our picks. I reckon history will show Adams and Caddy went for songs. Imagine what we could have organized if they'd wanted to come and we were in the game.

I don't know if O'Rourke or Plowman are the right ones but the theory is very sound and suits us well. Our recruiting people have done pretty well this year by the look of things. I hope they do it again. Another "buy one get one free" deal and we are starting to look really good.

I think Adams got a good deal for Collingwood but mainly cause GWS were so keen for Shaw. Caddy was an absolute bargain but he had Gold Coast over a barrel and demanded where he wanted to go. Not a fan of Josh Caddy in how he did that negotiation, very good footballer though. Those guys were both getting games at their club though. We need to be more careful for more speculative guys.

Couldn't agree more. If we improve and are off the nose, looking sound financially and with a good coach in Roos, we will be able to do a couple more of those types of deals.

Once again for those interested. A mate of mine who has seen a lot of Salem's games, is certain we have landed a gem. He also believes our deal for pick 2 was an absolute winner for us getting Tyson and Salem.

Our best way forward might just be doing a few of those Roos type deals, where we give away an early pick, but get an couple of players from earlier drafts, who have developed physically, but are not getting a game in more talented sides.

Yeah, i agree, i also think Viv michie is a good type of player to target, fringe players of top 8 teams who need more opportunity

We must trade hard over the next 2 years waiting for first rounders to make it has hurt this club

Much better to go after known quantities when you can> We are likely to have a pick in the first 3 or 4 this year and I would be hoping we use it to get a ready made

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
