Surprised no thread has been made on this so far:

Footballers in Cars getting Coffee.

It's a new video on the MFC website and it's a brilliant idea to rip off an already brilliant idea, that is Jerry Seinfeld's great little Internet show "Comedians in Cars getting Coffee."

Episode 1 is Robbo interviewing big Max Gawn.

If you've not seen the original, this is basically the same thing where the host picks someone up, they drive around in the car and then have coffee, all the time just having a conversation.

Nothing groundbreaking, but it gives an insight into their personality and is relatively entertaining.

It's exactly that - light entertainment for supporters.

I notice its directed and produced by Court Sage Heart, who looks to be new to the media dept and I think is bringing in some great new ideas. I think the AFL club media is heading towards more personality driven content, as there's only so much we can watch where the coaches repeat all the same cliches and in the end tell us essentially nothing new. Same with anything to do with injury reports, etc.

Newsbeat looks like a regular segment that has popped up and is a bit like a short highlights show for those of us who have a hard time finding the time to watch all the videos produced, and to get the snippets that actually do come out of all the other guff. Not the greatest I've seen from the outset, but a rough diamond that could be polished. Saves me time at least.

Also probably worth mentioning that there's another new face on there, I think her name was Anna Harrington from memory. She interviewed T-Mac and Barry when they signed extensions.

Good to see the media dept expanding and producing greater quality media for us supporters.

A complete copy of an Italian hit show from the 1990s.

Besides that, most of our players drink green tea.

like the new segment. Love getting to know the players on a more personal level.
Good idea choosing Gawn to kick off the segment, bit of a "character".
The jokes about Chippa and his contracts are quite funny too.

Interesting to see Gawn's Mum (?) post these under the MFC Facebook post...hehe:

Didn't know that.

Anyway, Seinfeld's version is great.

As is the MFC version, as far as AFL club media is concerned, at the very least.

The idea was floated a few years back when Beamer and Col were about but 'Cruising Chapel Street with Pizzed Nuff Nuffs' wasn't deemed family friendly enough.

they did it on before the game last year with Mick and Lehmo where they would pick up a player have a conversation then just dump the player somewhere. Probably just another excuse for Robbo to get to be on a camera and talk. But some parts of it has been funny.

Hogan sounds like an interesting bloke to live around haha

"Ate everything and then hid in his room"

Without knowing him, that sounded about right :)

Dmitri seems like a pretty happy-go-lucky guy in this weeks episode.

Has everyone noticed that Robbo is the world's worst interviewer, he just talks about himself!

I think it's part of the charm though, it's not supposed to be an "interview".

It's supposed to be a general conversation, the way Robbo talks about himself and stuff actually relaxes the player, I have never seen players so comfortable around the camera than in that show.

Glad this is a positive thread cause I'm loving the new segment. The media department's been kicking goals this year.

God only knows how they have had bugger all positive to write about.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
