I have never been a fan of bringing in Jesse Hogan to play a cameo game for Melbourne in the final round of the season. It smacks very much of pumping up one's prized recruit purely for the purposes of PR and self-promotion which is exactly what the club was accused of when it pushed up Jack Watts for that Queens Birthday debut five years ago. Hogan was out of action for months before his rusty comeback in the VFL last week and I really see no useful purpose in him being out there at the moment.

By way of a warning:

Collingwood played its final round fixture for 2014 last night and it appears that Matthew Scharenberg has suffered yet another injury ~ Matthew Scharenberg to undergo scans as Collingwood sweats on his health after leg injury

The Pies' other first round pick from last year, Nathan Freeman, hasn't played an AFL game this year, having succumbed to a series of hamstring injuries.

These blokes will all come good eventually but the best thing for them at this stage is to wrap them up in cotton wool and bring them out when the pre season starts.

The Kid has one a B&F in 2's has been training the house down for a month and people want him to go to Casey and suffer 3 weeks of rubbish delivery , scoreboard beltings , very little excitement and sarounded by 6 or 7 blokes who know that there careers are finished and don't want to be there.

Straight into the team next week for me thanks.

You are talking about the Melbourne seniors here, yes?

Seems like Roos is going to re cast the team this pre season and the cue is in the rack from the coach now as well as the players. No point having Jesse out there until his new teammates arrive.

no point playing him. Just rest him get him going in 2015. Sorry but the way things are going if Jesse plays in the last round and does a major injury rossy would never forgive himself. It achieves nothing playing him.

Disappointing but understandable.

Good idea that he isn't playing. Rest him up now, he will be fully fit now to attack pre season.

Agree, common sense prevails after all what is to be gained from a fixture between 2 bottom VFL units.
