Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I know the seasons not over yet, but so far

1. How would you rate his season out of ten

2. Would he be in your top 5 for players?

1. 9/10 (Would like to see him kick more goals on a regular basis. He is starting to do that but I want to keep seeing it)

2. Yes

1. 8/10. Good possession, tackle numbers etc. but could contribute some more outside impact

2. Clearly yes, I imagine he would be leading the B & F atm

I've never followed any Melbourne players during the Brownlow over the past few seasons (for obvious reasons) but surely he is in contention this year.

As juzzk1d mentioned, more goals would be great, but I'm happy either way.

1. 10/10

2. Yes

Amazing how the team's ability to spread the load is allowing our talent to rise. Jones benefiting from Tyson, Vince, Viney and Cross.

The total becoming greater than the sum of the parts.

1. Getting close to a 9/10

2. Probably not in top 5 of the league.

He is now starting to have that Ablett influence on his fellow team mates, that is most around him lift that little extra because they see his tremendous work ethic.

Only one what could be termed "sub par" performance which was when his hammy (I think it was) gave him some grief... and the effort he put in during that game would have translated to above par... so I give him an 11.

Did you mean top 5 AFL wide or at MFC? I would rate him top 5 AFL wide, Ablett being the only clear leader there.

Right now he's a lot better than top 50.

5th for clearances

4th for disposals

6th for effective disposals

9th for contested possessions

He's in the top 10 midfielders in the game right now.

They think Jones is 8th best I think it was.

1. On Field 9/10 Off Field 12/10

2. Not top 5. Top 50 comfortably.

You mean top 10 right?

We have a few blokes who are top 10 comfortably

Joel Selwood thinks Jonesy is a star.

I rate in him in the top ten midfielders in the comp so far this year.

1. 9/10 - There was a bit of play late in the last quarter of the richmond game, where he dived for the ball against deledio, a 2nd richmond player jumped in to tackle. He collected the ball, basically lifted these 2 blokes off the ground as he got to his feet and got boot to ball to a teammate out from the congestion. The bloke is a star. I haven't even seen Ablett do anything like that before. Not saying he is as good as Ablett, but easily an A grader and better than the likes of M.Murphy, T.Cotchin & T.Boak.

2. Id have him in the Top 10 so far this year.

10/10

He had by his standards, a quiet game against Adelaide, possibly due to a bit of hammy tightness. Still went forward and slotted the sweetest drop punt you'll see from the tightest of angles.

He's done a number on Cotchin and Murphy, when those 2 more highly rated mids needed to lift their teams, Jones outshone them and lifted ours.

That Richmond game though, it was like he was determined to not let what happened against the Doggies repeat.

Just crucial contests won time after time. The one where he smashed in against Deledio on the ground then emerged and got it out. Then in the last 5 minutes in Richmond's forward line, willed himself back, won a hard ball, shovelled it out to Gawn and we cleared it.

Just inspiring stuff.

Probably 8th is about right overall.

He's probably been one of the most consistent players over the last 2 1/2 years, in a terrible team.

HE's not top 5 in the league, but certainly he has to be in the top 20 or so. His work has been outstanding this year. I have been wondering if he's got a shot at an A selection, although I suspect they will stick with the usual suspects and skip him again. I also agree with a few others on here that he needs to hit the scoreboard a bit more to add a bit of hurt to his game. Every other aspect he has covered, but the truly elite mids produce the odd game where they step up and kick a a bunch of goals. Nate rarely goes past 1 in a game.

8/10 for me. He can get better.

I was hounded down last year when I dare suggest that he wasn't Elite

He was more like B grade.

This year with the better team support he is A grade.

He still has areas to work on and I'm sure he will get there by years end.

But..... And a big But......... He will be overtaken by Tyson who has the silky skills that most Elite Players have that Jonesy doesn't.

i disagree with this somewhat. jonesy's kicking is usually precise, especially when delivering into the 50. i know there is more to "skills" than that, but his "skills" aren't bad.

I, like the first few posters thought it was top 5 in the club, which was a strange question. Glad it was clarified.

Top 10 in the league seems about right, not Top 5.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
