The situation is a total mess and needs to be fixed for 2015.

Richmond's CEO said today he doesn't understand why their away jumper was considered inappropriate when they've worn it against Port since 2010.

It hasn't been an issue in the past. Richmond didn't bring it up now. So why did the AFL make the decision? Terrible stuff.

it is terrible stuff, but not surprising really. The AFL have NFI on these matters. Why are the Bulldogs allowed on all red jumper and yet we are told we can't?

easy fix would be make every club have three jumpers.

1) Traditional Home

2) Inverted colours same design as the home (blue up top with main body of red in our case)

3) mostly white or completely different colour in the case of teams that have mostly white anyway

The dogs already do it and it works a treat. It would work for every clubs jumper

Typical AFL (Animal Farm Limited) - all clubs are equal, but some clubs are more equal than others. Until you have one set of rules that apply equally to all, these sort of issues will keep cropping up. The home team (Port) wears their home jumper, the away team wears an acceptable, non-clashing jumper. End of story.

Good for you, but for most, there may be times they have trouble. Even if it's just once, it's worth having a proper clash strip. I don't think anyone doubts that we lost a game a few years back because bartram handballed to an umpire wearing identical pink socks. We should be able to distinguish with ease team A, team B, and the umpires. Anything less is unprofessional.

It's nothing like half time entertainment etc. In the amateur leagues teams will wear a clash strip if needed - no club tradition has been destroyed because of this.

Just have a common sense policy that allows us to wear the traditional colours away against teams where there is no clash, fix the moronic dark/light policy, and it will be fine.

There's got to be a push for those 90s red training tops with the MFC in the middle. Alleviates every single clash we have. If the dogs are allowed to do it, why not us?

Some of the clubs clash strips are ridiculous and a waste of time (think Pies, Tigers, Bombers etc.) We need to get over the 'traditional' jerseys and have better clash jumpers and the AFL should enforce it. As for us I think that having great clash jumpers is a good way to make money. Our current jumper sucks so I would like to see more effort put into a good second jersey. We should be ahead of the curve and work on having great multiple jerseys but always keep our traditional one for ALL home games and if there is no clash.

That would be far far too simple for the AFL ever to embrace. It is logical, and it is fair. It isn't AFL.

It's so ridiculous, why couldn't Richmond just produce that jumper this week and play in that? I mean the AFL told Port to produce their prison bar jumper

I love our standard jumper.

I used to put it on when I was a kid and pretend to be superman. Growing up in the 90's, the dees looks like a team of superheroes to me. Watching the wizard fly in it was amazing.

Despite all the BS of the last decade, I still get a tingle when I pull it on to go to a game. There's something really special about it.

This is what the EPL does and it works perfectly fine. It really does frustrate that somehow the AFL allow the Richmond "clash" jumper and they only now feel it's inappropriate. If you've signed off on it then it's a done deal. FWIW I think Richmond's clash top + Ports home top would be fine.

A home team should NEVER have to wear anything other than their home top, unless it's by choice. That is one of the basic ideas of a home match that is recognised everywhere in the world.
