Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Changes for Round 9 vs Tigers

The idea of Byrnes is that he's a side filler. His job is to do enough to force the younger players at Casey to put in games that demand a call up, Riley and Clisby have been consistent for a few weeks now and Blease put in a good game. Surely it's about time one of them take his spot.

There won't be many changes, Roos has shown that's how he operates. Anyone calling for Bail to be dropped obviously has a short memory as he was one of our best last week.

In: Riley

Out: Byrnes

And please can we give Salem a full game!

When will people realise there is no longer an attitude of shifting the deck chairs on a weekly basis. Unless you are not attempting to play your role or unless someone consistently smashes it at Casey there will not be changes. Calls for Blease who has had one week of getting some decent ball in or Bail to be dropped who is running his guts out and has one of our highest tackle counts is laughable. The only two I would expect that will be considered will be Riley or Clisby who have put multiple weeks of good form together but truthfully I expect no change.

You can now see how destabilising that particular foolishness of Neeld's was. We had a lot of confused players. I reckon the only changes this week will be injury forced but Byrnes is a luxury we cannot afford to carry for much longer. I mean him no disrespect but unless he is positively and clearly impacting on the game, we might as well give a younger player a go.

Blease will have to do a lot to stay on the list at all. He's still a long way from call-up.

Seeing Terlich motionless on the ground for such a long time, I can't believe they'll play him next week. Clisby, or perhaps Georgiou - depending on whether they need run and attack or a shut-down job on a Tiger forward.

Byrnes does the 1%ers and that will keep him in the team until Kent is ready. Kent may have to play another good game at Casey, but in the end he must come back.

I'd like to see Salem in the starting 21, but they'll have to manage his time carefully. I think he's still coming back from the thyroid illness, and a full game is a stretch for him. He had moments of brilliance last night, and I loved the way he gave the elbow to a Doggie in the goal square after his goal - not just a pretty face.

Hopefully little change.

In Clisby (held over yesterday, must be close, play as sub)

Out Byrnes

Salem to play 3 qtrs.

Could live with no change. Hope Terlich is ok, yes he makes a few errors but we clearly dropped off down back when he went off. Ability to win contested ball is great from him.

I don't think moving players to Casey was the problem per se. The problem was most of them were sent there as some kind of schoolboy 'punishment' and they were back in a week anyway. No learning was done and they didn't really have to live up to a prescribed standard. It was just chest thumping on the coach's side.

People don't realise that the reason we are shutting teams down well and creating contests everywhere is because players all over the field are doing unfashionable hard work. Chasing, pressuring, tackling, harassing .....

I think that keeping those players who are creating this culture and backing it up several weeks in a row deserve to stay in the team unless either they stop doing those things, or somebody in the VFL absolutely smashes the door down with their performances.

I think that we'll see no change again, but Salem will get a full game (just as JKH spent several games as a sub before getting a full game).

The "like" button is too anaemic a reaction to these posts. I would like to press the "really, really like" function. This is the most important thing we're doing this year to get the best out of the talent that we currently have. The evidence is there week by week.

Bail? Was one of the top-five against Adelaide. Doesn't deserve to be dropped. Would be fascinating to see what Roos could do with Blease. We need outside run.

Bail is only good when against low intensity opposition. when rushed he holds the ball too long, giving out crape disposals, or getting caught with it. slows our transference.

puts our forwards under the pump, misses hard leads, not good enough, finished.

He's an old world footballer.

Listening to the ABC on my way home it was mentioned that Gawn and Kent were having a run around the ground after the match!

Out Byrnes in Kent.

I'd love to see Kent in for Byrnes but doubt it will happen with Kent missing a week through suspension.

I'd bring Kent in for Bail. Kents hands, & use with the ball & his run, is superior to Bails. play similar role. I'd look at Clisby in for someone. if Terlich doesn't pass muster.

Out: M Jones

In: A Reilly

That missed goal on the run... Aargh! From where I was sitting I couldn't tell if he was having a shot or trying to pass

lol

Those were frustrating misses, but leaving him out because of it?

lol

The idea for making unforced changes is to improve the side. As Matt Jones has demonstrated this year that on work ethic and fitness he's easily, easily best 22, if you leave him out, you've automatically made the side worse.

And it's Riley, not Reilly.

I really would'nt drop Matt Jones. He has been very good this year in his second year. I was as angry as any Melbourne supporter with his misses and they were unacceptable in such a tight match.

But he needs to be shown more faith from our supporters and coaches. Averaging 21/22 disposals.. a keep for me

yeah, the uncertainty is just an experience thing, & confusion amongst the forwards Re who was doing what, can only be fixed via knowing one anothers games.

Bail on the other hand keeps choking when he gets the ball in hand under perceived pressure. so scared of making a mistake he is partially frozen in his decision making. He cost us many strong forward opportunities, getting the ball in dangerous areas, then he's like treacle deciding, until the moments past.

We'll continue to have frustrating losses like that one because we neither have the personell nor the trust and belief to win games like that.

The Matt Jones misses tell us a lot. An average midfielder who wouldn't be playing in a top 8 sides midfield. Of course they were frustrating, but we're still a way off with our mids.

I like what Roos is doing. Consolidate a strong defensive mindset throughout the playing group. Play the players who are mature enough and physically and mentally strong enough to perform a role whilst our less experienced brigade fight it out at Casey and develop some good habits.

I know I just called for Byrnes to be dropped, and I do hope he's dropped. I don't think he performed a role last night. Displayed selfishness, couldn't keep his feet and contributed little.

However for other average players such as Matt Jones, he offers enough for now, but come next year I hope we have an upgrade to replace those types. I'm sure Roos will know this as recruiting and trading will again be imperative to our sides rise up the ladder.

We're not going to improve dramatically with the current crop.

out: Byrnes, Bail, Terlich

ins: Blease, Riley, Clisby

Byrnes does not do enough to deserve a game. Bail plays in patches and misses too many tackles and disposal is 50/50. Even before his concussion, Terlich had some clangers & fumbled.

Oh dear.

Not only are you advocating for dropping one of our hardest working and improving players, you're replacing him with the total opposite.

Blease has a lot of work to do before he gets back in the side. He would do well to learn from how Bail approaches his footy.

People don't realise that the reason we are shutting teams down well and creating contests everywhere is because players all over the field are doing unfashionable hard work. Chasing, pressuring, tackling, harassing .....

I agree with the sentiment, but I think we need to tweak the line up a tad, which requires a shuffle. I'd like to see Dunn played forward, not back, and I think to do this we should replace him with Georgiou in defence (i.e. McDonald is the first defender, Georgiou the second, Garland the third). Move Dunn forward, which means dropping Byrnes. Might be harsh, but I think we're a better side with Dunn forward and Georgiou playing the second tall (Crameri/Williams are not menacing but we couldn't stop them).

No doubt. Some, with improved competitiveness so far, tend to get a bit blinded about the shortcomings of the list.

At the end of the year, there will be delistings and I'm sure 'Land will be up in arms about them. Expect a lot of the class of 2008-2011 to be traded or cleared (plus Byrnes who I am sure knows that this is his last year).

I assume they will want to keep to the now standard set-up. Tommy to start on Vickery and Dunn to stand Riewoldt

Could be one where Frawley goes back if fit and Dunn goes forward. Adds a bit of extra interest I would think.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
