Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The Jack Viney bump that never was!

They'll watch it in real time first and see that Viney didn't initiate the contact. Have a look at it and look at where Viney is when Lynch takes possession and where he is when contact is made, he barely moves.

Agree. my initial view was that the Adelaide player was driven into Viney by the tackle. He doesn't initiate contact

What else could have Viney done?

The issue is the contact to his head by Viney's shoulder. Only thing he could have done would have been to drop the shoulder lower to hit him on the rib cage/chest. Very hard to do given how quickly it happened. They'll probably say that if he had time to brace himself he had time to tackle or drop the hit lower.

If you choose to bump and injury results you usually find yourself in strife.

Thoughts?

Not going to happen. Viney protected his own body more than he tried to put his eyes on the man with the ball. It was a perfect hip and shoulder and the Jaw was an accident for Lynch unfortunately.

If Viney is outed for that........Playing the ball.....I will be disgusted yet again with the AFL.

Apart from the bump being side on and normal, even if there was something in it, which I don't think there was , how could it have been avoided in the time available? Unfortunate for Lynch for sure but would be silly if he got rubbed out for that.

I think it's part of the game too Dockett32, but it's fair to say he could have tackled. If there was time for him to brace side on, there was time to tackle, unfortunately. I watched the footage again on the afl site and tried to picture in my mind JV putting his arms out to wrap Lynch up in a tackle with Georgie. There was time.

Listen, last week Josh Look at my latest outfit Gibson left the ground and delivered a forearm to the head. Not only was he not suspended but he received less carry over points than Georgiou. If Viney is suspended they can all go get facked.

Jon Ralph on SEN about 20 minutes ago sounded incredulous when someone brought up the Tex Walker tweet asserting Viney could be looked at. He suggested Tex may have been on the turps and that Viney was just going "low and hard" for the ball.

lifted the elbow a bit,and then he wouldve made sure of it.

Let me get this right.... Two players go for ball, one braces for impact, he his guilty because the other player doesn't? Is that how the rule works?

Not only the other player didn't brace but he actually fell further into his path. (A bit like Bartel fell into Moloney's leg - which may or may not have made contact - but hey guess what? Which club do we follow?)

AND Viney clearly was going for the ball - after all he picked it up and delivered in a microsecond.

I understand your frustration jnrmac, it frustrates me too but the rule is pretty black & white these days. If you choose to bump you suffer any consequences.

But the point is he didm't choose to bump - he turned to protect himself. After all he has himself had a broken jaw and may have seen another coming.

What else could have Viney done?

Ducked to avoid contact? But he wouldn't know how.

HTF would ducking avoid contact?

Ducking, a movement not known to this payer, could have meant that his jaw would be broken and not the other guy's.

If Viney does fall foul of the MRP we could raise the Sylvia v Josh Kennedy (WC) precedent.

There's no such thing as precedent with the MRP.

Yet another reason why the MRP is a disgrace.

Agree with this 100%. You need to punish the intention and the conduct, not the fact that an unfortunate / freak injury results from what is otherwise legitimate conduct. It means that dog acts which do not result in injury do not get appropriately punished. Basically we have a system where it's just about luck as to whether a player is injured or not.

The MRP would probably give a guy who tripped over on the street and accidentally fell across someone's leg and broke it a 10 year jail term, while giving a fine to someone who shot at another person's head but just missed.

Also agree. The same action can get 0 weeks or 3 weeks based solely on any injury. It's very, very flawed, but it's why I think Viney is going to get weeks.

This will only be looked at after 9.05am when that old [censored] KB does his take in SEN and puts Vineys name up in lights !!

Nothing in it but we will get the royal screw job once again. 3 weeks.

Here's how it works

Eyes on the ball and ended up with the ball proving he made the ball his main object NOT the player (oops scrub that, we only suspend here)

This comes under the clause plays for the MFC:

High impact = +1 week

Accidental = deduct 1 week

Injury to face was incurred = +2 weeks

Tally up activation points and divide x2

Then plays too rough, gone through junior footy with kids mums complaining, activation pts divided, then multiply by the amount of times he goes in too hard.

Early guilty plea taken into account the Adelaide player will miss a month BUT wiped out a teammate as well (MFC clause = bonus pts) - deduct 2 weeks
Wearing a MFC jumper = +2 weeks (ignore previous good record)

MFC Player Viney out for 2 weeks (If it was any other high profile player it wouldnt be an issue, ie Gablett)

Trenners slammed dunked Dangermouse and got cruxified, dont expect any favours from these morons.

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P
