(6) Pedersen- The best game I have seen him play. He was fantastic.

(5) Dunn- I prefer him in the backline.

(4) N. Jones- A typical workhorse performance. Perhaps not as influential as usual, but he was still very good.

(3) Cross- Just the role model that our young players need

(2) McDonald- Held Buddy very well; was unlucky to have the soft free kick called against him.

(1) M. Jones- I'm a big fan of this guy. Great run all night long.

Unlucky: Vince, JKH

Addendum:

Had the game been one quarter long (the last) I'd have given votes to C Salem. Nice debut (and if he's only 183 cm I'll eat my hat/cap).

JKH also improving each week!

6. Dunn - our backline General

5. Cross - great defensive job on McVeigh and took some great contested marks when pressure was on

4. Pederson - would get the 6 votes based on effort alone, loved his game

3. N Jones - a benchmark Jones game

2. M Jones - provide great run

1. Grimes - really solid game

Honourable mentions to J Viney - some great work in congestion but let down by his finish, M Jamar - better than he's been for 2 years and will be good for the run, C Dawes - love his defensive effort.

Dishonourable mentions to J Watts and J Howe for not putting pressure on the ball carrier. I reckon we'd have been a 3 goal better side with Salem starting on and Watts as sub and Clisby/Nicholson in place of Howe purely based on our ability to trap ball in our fwd half.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
