The only issue with this is that the majority of the best key position forwards for any club in the league were first round draft picks. The only exceptions to that rule are Drew Petrie (pick 23), Crameri (rookie pick), father son picks (prior to the f/s being changed) and NSW scholarship players. Most of the following players haven't moved clubs as well:

Adelaide: Walker (taken as a NSW academy player)

Brisbane: Do they have one? Brown (father son)

Carlton: Henderson (pick 8)/ Waite (father son)

Collingwood: Cloke (father son)/ Reid (pick 8)

Essendon: Daniher (father son/ pick 10)

Freo: Pavlich (pick 4)

Geelong: Hawkins (father son)

Gold Coast: Dixon (outside of draft)/ Day(pick 3)/ Lynch (pick 11)

Bolded players are those not listed above and generally don't play as the number 1 forward. Gunston, Darling, Tippett were all early 2nd round picks, Josh Jenkins was a rookie pick.

Although it's a valid point that judging young talls on TAC cup form is flawed as they are often much bigger than their opponents (height wise at least) it must be noted that of the players I listed above the vast majority were either first round picks or father son picks (who would have likely gone first round). Unfortunately the stats are that it's only about 1/2 key forwards taken in the first round of the draft that make it, but it's the proven way of finding one.

Sometimes, sometimes not. I had a friend go through the TAC cup system who was 6'0 and 95kg at 17, he regularly played full back on the 6'4+/ 70kg talls because he could match them for speed and ragdoll them if it was a contested situation. Quite a few people he played on were early picks and he beat the majority of them convincingly.

Gotta get Lyon Neita and Ox to punch out a few sons asap. Hopefully PJ is onto this as a further succession plan to our forward line.

Don't think too much of Burbury. Stringer has disposal issues but has some toe and can run. Schroder is an ok inside mid too good for VFL but maybe not AFL, I'd probably pass whilst we are working on Michie and Riley to fill spots. Hunt is interesting, makes dumb decisions and poor skills but fast and can tag. Mitch Brown is a strange player. Does some wonderful things then goes missing. Very similar to his old junior team mate Jack Watts. I don't mind him at CHB but he needs a fire lit under him.

De Boer can win the ball well, great runner, very good defensively, but disposal has been an issue from his junior days, which he was only picked up as a rookie. I think his ball use is a factor in him not playing greater midfield minutes at Freo.

Bail’s a pretty good comparison in terms of overall game, perhaps his bigger body allows him to be a better clearance player.

Wouldn't mind trying to bring in Taylor Hunt. Sure, he's no world-beater, but he'd be a much better option than McKenzie.

Wasn't it floated that there might be a trade Blease for Hunt not too long ago? I'd be happy with that.

Further thoughts from an astute Cats supporter mate:

His view is that Burbury won't be up for trade. And he thinks they are mad if they let Schroder go.

Taylor Hunt - tagger, nothing more. Poor foot skills. Would trade for a Big Mac.

Mitch Brown - Works hard. Was in the best 22 at the start of the year. Good half forward (Geelong have chopped him from back to front so he hasn't really had a chance to settle)

Jesse Stringer - Inside midfielder. Ok pace, question marks on engine size. Has had off field issues.

Burbury - thinks he stays. Good mid sized forward. Nice kick, attacks the ball hard.

Schroder - Inside midfielder, good size. Won Liston Medal so can play. Doesn't think he is on the chopping block either.

Josh Cowan - Been injured long term. Gets body right, he is a jet. Very quick.

Jackson Sheringham - Another mid that is outside our best 22 and really dropped back a few pegs as some of the younger blokes went past him. Goes alright without being a superstar.

Burbury is the one I'd like, but then again, where does he play? Not a mid.

He's a specialist FP or HFF, but not really good enough at that, yet, to be a specialist.

I think he was a basketballer, from memory.

Schroder is a party boy. Talented, but commitment maybe not there.

I wouldn't sign either, and we wouldn't need to trade in the end. They'll be delisted.

Cats are big fans of Cowan, but he has been perpetually injured for 5 years. Gone.

Random but how about Matthew Wright from Adelaide. I love the way he plays footy... hard as nails, does the one percenters and has good skills. Was ripping it up in Adelaides midfield in the preseason but was played in the forward line all year. I rekon he could be a smoky if he was put into the midfield.
