Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Players to target at the end of the year

Patton moves about as fast as a kitchen sink. No thanks.

The 3 midfielders are obvious talents but they all spend a lot of time going backwards and sideways at half back due to a lot of the supporting cast. The worry is you'd need to take them backwards in development to teach them how to play proper football if they get entrenched in this crud. Collingwood are doing that with Taylor Adams right now. Tyson might've been lucky to miss so much footy in his first 2 years.

LOL. Do you think the senile old man had impeded development? (Maybe a bit like playing in the current Casey environment / mentality?)

The big question is how cheap is cheap. I'm sure the Tigers would be happy to move on from him for a valuable top 30 type pick, but they'd probably back themselves to persist with him for a pick after that.

My personal view is any pick after about 50 or 55 is pretty worthless as you can get your man with your next pick or PSD or rookie draft. So that's the kind of pick I'd give up for Vickery.

He's a big strong athletic kid who can't seem to focus at all on the actual job of playing footy. Doesn't know when to use his athleticism which isn't bad, can't control the right level of physicality either.

Top 30 pick?! No way.

And I don't think even Richmond kid themselves that he is worth that much.

I'd be thinking almost a Cale Morton type deal. And surely they've given up on him by now.

Then again, they lack talls and let Derickx go...

Tyson is a better player than Shiel... Shiel has been struggling at AFL level, while he is promising, he is definitely struggling

He hasn't been struggling, he's young, been injured and playing in a rubbish team for most of his career. I would take him at MFC no questions asked.

I raised the possibility of Vickery about 4-6 weeks ago.

I wouldn't be surprised or dismayed if Roos made a run for him.

Definitely a Roos-type pick up.

His value is at an all-time low so we could get him cheap, he clearly has attributes that he should be using a lot more effectively, has worn out his welcome at his original club, and he looks like he desperately needs a change of scenery.

Go Roosy. Get him.

Even if he's only an extra ruck and forward option for the next 2 years.

I'd back Roos to get more out of him than any other coach.

On the surface the guy acts like an idiot and I wouldn't want him near my side. However you raise some good points and he would ultimately be a better second ruck/forward option than Spencer, Fitzpatrick and probably Gawn on what he has shown to date. Wouldn't throw the sink at him but wouldn't be too upset if we recruited him although our preference still has to remain the midfield/half back and small forward.

Hawthorn still win most weeks, because they have a crop of genuine class. And their depth has been severely tested. It's been shown to be pretty thin, IMO.

As for taggers, I think we'll use Jones to tag/go head-to-head with Libba this weekend. Losing your two best taggers in one week is pretty unlucky. I reckon most teams would struggle to cover that injury hit.

For me, we lack enough genuine class to get the job done consistently against good opposition.

Nah I do agree with you, Hawthorn do have depth, with 5-7 of their champion players out they brought in depth players, they have been tested but they still get the job done. As for our depth, we have VFL players at best, with Strauss, Nicholson, Tapscott even. There's a few that can improve I reckon such as Michie (who still is very young and been injured most of his career), Evans, and even Blease.

I reckon Jones will too, as he did earlier in the year against Murphy and did a spectacular job. Best thing about when he's the tagger, he still gets his own ball also.

I also agree that we lack genuine class, we all know this and so does Roosy, that's why I won't be shocked if we go for a gun such as Dangerfield (which I hope we do because he's practically my favourite player in the comp).

We are still the only team in the AFL without a crowd pulling marquee player

Mind you thats no different to the last 40 years

I'll raise you Brisbane (Rockliff? Zorko? nah), GWS (if Cameron isn't in form), Carlton (unless the kiddies are fascinated with Judd still), WB and then there's a bunch of teams with nothing too special:

Ess (unless Watson, Goddard or Zaharakis really grab you), Rich (Riewoldt? Martin? Cotchin? not at the moment), St Kilda (hard to marvel at Nick Riewoldt when you are down 15 goals).

If we keep improving and winning then Howe will provide some moments. Salem's shown in only a few games he can do some special things. And Jesse Hogan might never be a Franklin style electrifying forward but lets hope he can be one of the best key forwards in the game and they always draw crowds.

I think we will provide good entertainment value as long as we keep improving.

Shiel's last 5 weeks have been very good. Both of Fairfax and Newscorp have run stories citing Shiel as one who Victorian clubs are actively pursuing with the feeling that he is gettable. Surely we are one of thise clubs.

Vickery is bloody terrible

Agree. Fitz is currently better and has more upside.

Morabito anyone? Is back from injury, big bodied midfielder with alot of potential, yes he has had knee reco's but the kid can play.

Lyon is refusing to play the kid after 5-6 weeks of dominant form in the wafl, we could offer a starting 22 spot and a licence to thrill, worth a shot imo

Third rounder wouldn't hurt, surely he can take someone like Nicholson's spot.

We have had many but they have shone for far too short a time. Jurrah, Farmer, Jakovich, The Ox, The wiz.

The last prolonged champion retired in 1987 - Robbie !

From Richmond I'd rather Ben Griffiths than Vickery.

TVT, for mine Vickery has more upside despite not realizing his potential. What I note is that he runs into poor positions more often than most and, as such, does not impact the contest as much as he should.

Vickery doesn't look like he enjoys football one bit. He could be a beast if he wanted.

I'd back in Roos to do wonders with vickery, not sure what all the hate here towards him is about.

If we could pick him up cheap I'd be all for it.

There are some serious issues at tigerland at the moment and a lot of there players are playing below there best.

Tyrone at his best will add more then Fitz, Spencer or King will at there best

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
