We have to beat Richmond. Christ they are bad. The Lions had half a team and were still in it at three quarter time.

It just goes to show what the effects of bad admin. can do to a club.

Brisbane at board level have been almost Melbourne like in their incompetence (their handling of Voss, pizzing off old Fitzroy types with that paddle pop lion logo and ghastly jumper, their move to their training base at Springwood).

Their slide doesn't surprise me in the slightest.
The person I feel for the most is Justin Leppitsch. He is there because he is bailing his former club out of a tight spot as they thought they would show Roos they were 'serious' about getting a new coach without being aware that negotiations with the MFC were in the advanced stages.

It's avert your eyes time boyos.

The Lions are still getting a better run from the media than we did in the last two years. Leppa hasn't had the blowtorch put on his coaching and I even heard discussion on one of the Fox panels where it was suggested the club was not far off getting a priority pick. Now that's a joke given they won 10 games last year last made the finals in 2009 and haven't finished among the bottom four recently. They have Buckley's chance of getting assistance any time soon.

Then again, AFL house can be quite arbitrary with things like this and won't want the Brisbane market to collapse.

We're to blame for beating Carlton. Had the organised rabble known as Richmond lost on Thursday it would be their turn. I said to a friend yesterday Hardwick should have banned his club from singing the song, high five-ing each other after nearly loosing to Brisbane then singing the song like you had beaten the Hawks. Tigers play the Hawks/cats/bye/then us. Should we beat them they will be 2 & 6. Then it's their turn. Brisbane played 7 teenagers on Thursday which they are forced to do after last years exodus. Players getting suspended doesn't help their cause. Their time will come but right now it's more fun watching the likes of two of the supposed big 4.

Pies are destroying North. If the Roos don't turn things around this could get very ugly.

Scott Thompson did a good job getting Travis Cloke out of his slump with a nice whack to the breadbasket that cost a 50m penalty and gave him the first of his four goals for the first half.

Rule 1: Never give a sucker an even break.

Thompson broke that rule.

watching filth and norf

gee they hardly play any free kicks now

definitely gone too far the other way now

i'm also mystified how interpretations can obviously change so much this year without any public statements....odd

I don't know what it means but Collingwood have beaten two previously thought to be decent teams by 38 and 35 points.

Both games' margins seemed like they should have been much, much higher. Unsure what to make of it.

North's ball use today has been nothing short of disgusting.

talking about matches this round just read tippett kicked 3 goals in the 2nds and even though he only played a half they reckon thats enough. So he will probably come back next week against us and I read during the week Goodsy could slot straight back int he seniors which I find hard to believe.

But on nth from listening to it on the radio it sounds like the end result actually flattered them and cloke obviously got hold of thompson. games like that is why nth shouldnt be talked about top 4.

Collingwood are capable of great things, but inconsistent and unreliable.

I'd think we'll be in with a shot of rolling them come QB.

I admire your optimism Machsy. However, I think you have a very firm grip on yourself, let's get over GCS before we roll anyone else!

Now there's an overrated coach. Brad Scott should be paid for looking bewildered in the box.

And whinging about the latest umpiring decision.

And whinging about the latest umpiring decision.

He and his brother are a case study. Take two blokes who are identical and give one a great team and one a mediocre one. It can be luck of the draw IMO.

I agree about Brad Scott. People like him because he was an angry player and he's an angry coach. Problem is that he spends too much of his energy being upset about things he can't control (like umpiring decisions). Get angry at the stuff you can control, like the way your team plays. The only consistent thing about North is their ability to go from awesome to awful and back again. It isn't a youth thing, either - they're just flaky.

Collingwood looked really good today. Their defensive system was really good, although North didn't really test them. Plus they have enough classy players to consistently score. Plus I think Harry O, despite his flaws, is really important for them, with his pace.

The game on Thursday night was awful. We'd have probably beaten both teams on Thursday.

Saints over the Bombers.

Heaven.

Nick Riewoldt never ceases to amaze - easily one of my favourite players.

played a nice attacking style of footy too, plenty of running, spread and accurate passing

beat bummers at their own game.....love it

Go sainters. Seriously its great to see essendon go down. Riewoldt is just a superstar. I did not see that result coming at all.

Port got over west coast as well. Nic nat no marks. just saying.

I reckon that's true. Good teams with a recent history of success, and built in on field leadership can make a coach's life much easier. It's the coaches who drag teams from the depths and construct success that are the most impressive......Alistair Clarkson, and probably at the moment, Ken Hinkley.

Jamie Bennell played really well last night keeping Wingard quiet and rebounding well. His speed and ball skills were eye catching and he got a fair bit of it.

Good to see him do well but sad it's not with us.

I hope you're wrong about the Adelaide v GWS match, mate. I have a bit of money riding on that one. Fingers crossed.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
