I don't think he did anything like what Neeld did really, he has put the heat on the boys and fair enough, i still think all things considered we are a much improved side, add our three big forwards to that and we may have only lost by 6-7 goals which against a team as good as the eagles and considering where we are at, might have been a solid result.

I would also add that Paul Roos, from all accounts, was incredibly accommodating to the group prior to that presser. A bloke can only take so much.
Also, he was damned if he did and damned if he didn't. If he came out emphasizing this that and the other, he would be accused of spinning. If he tells the truth, he is distancing himself from the players. I'm not sure how you could blame this on him. He is two weeks into the season. A lot of the players have been serving up the same s*** sandwiches for the last two years.
I do concur a bit about the 2-3 year deal bit. I am hoping after this Paul realizes that he would be derelict in his duty to put a time frame on leaving. I found it a little odd that he was talking about him 'lifting a cup' at his first presser. I did wonder at that stage if he knew what he was getting into. If the penny didn't drop after this week, it probably won't (and I'm sure it has). I don't think he should say he is here for ten years or anything but he should follow PJ's lead and give himself enough time to complete the job properly.
One thing I would suggest to Roosy is that he doesn't forget who he is. He has never been an arse kicker and he shouldn't try to be one now. That's what killed Neeldy's career (among other things). He tried to be a disciplinarian but it wasn't in him. What worked for Roos in Sydney was his man management skill, his ability to build relationships and his ability to get the best out of people. He needs to remember this. If he thinks that he needs to rap the players over the knuckles and scald people, he is sadly mistaken. It needs to be carrot and stick (and he did mention that it would be a combo of both).

So is he going to come out after a loss like that and say we're smelling of roses? We played terrible and made BASIC errors, I'm not talking pressured errors but basics that any AFL footballer should be doing in their sleep.

Watts had a shocker (shame, I was really hoping he could back last week up), and a pivotable moment for the confidence of the group was when he dropped the chest mark in the forward 50. Mistakes like that shouldn't be forgotten. We had 11 goals kicked on us from turnovers, he has every right to make statements like that. As did Neeld, difference is that Roos has the runs on the board and the players respect him. I don't know that I could ever say the same for MN.

Roos did make a comment about spilled chest marks. The most obvious culprit was Watts in front of goal. At The Age again. A back page photo of Watts with his eyes closed as he spills it. No doubt bracing for the spoil around the ears in preference to swallowing the ball.

There are distinct similarities ...of sorts, but also enough difference to avail the article as meddlesome rubbish lining also.

What will be interesting is given the reaction by Roos as to how certain players respond. With Neeld it was to essentially sook, get shirty or run away . With Roos I imagine a few might be shltting themselves as to how there career might continue....and deservedly so.

What some players might no realise is they are essentially applying for there jobs again via game time. The door will be wide open come EOS and some names ( suprising to some ) will be amongst those exiting

I dont really expect Roos to jump up and down...just speak some home truths...for now.

I was disappointed by Roos' 'dossier' line, and think it is out of whack with his earlier homilies to the media. Don't forget it is a grossly uneven competition. We are effectively playing in The Sunday League, have little chance of cherry-picking players like Hawthorn, Collingwood, Carlton and Essendon, and only average chance of hanging onto the players we gain through the draft or in-house development. The drop-off of good players to strong or better clubs is quite startling when you list them: Moloney, Bennell, Sylvia, McLean, Petterd, Rivers.

When your main causes for concern are elementary mistakes and questionable effort then 9 coaches out of ten (if not 10/10) will pretty much say the same thing. Grant Thomas is (apparently) an exception of course. Roos and Neeld both faced the same instance of fundamental errors.

Both made the same correct observations however Neeld did not have the management ability, training regime or the group's buy in to address it (apparently). You judge a coach by their results not who/what they sound like. The peanut who wrote this article should take that on board.

FWIW Roos played the same team as per round 1. Showed faith, prioritised stability and got a very average return. It is his job to see who is up to AFL standard (or can get there) and who can't.

There is no connection of this to the fact that Roos' tenure is not yet set in concrete. I'm sure the playing group and the supporters would appreciate clarity but this article is trying to join dots that aren't there.

Without dredging up the past too much, the club Neeld walked into was a LOT different to the one Roos has walked into. The personality clashes and territorial feuds that preceded his arrival were never going to bode well for him. That being said, he didn't help things with the attitude he took and the actions he embraced (i.e. firing the entire leadership group and don't give me that it was all player driven).
Politically, the club Roos walks into is much more stable politically. However, the on-field product he inherits is much worse than what Neeld inherited.
The comparison is kind of grasping at straws. Keep in mind that Neeld first lost his rag at half time when we were down by 6 points. We ultimately lost by 42. Roosy has said what he said after a game we lost by 93 points and were down by 10 odd goals at half time.

Let's also look at the following. I don't believe that Roos was overly harsh last week when we lost to the Saints and I don't believe he should have been overly harsh. However, when you receive the biggest loss of your coaching career in the second week of your second coaching stint from players who purport to respect you and think you are a great bloke, then it starts to jar a bit. I also don't believe that Roosy said anything too different yesterday than what he said when we got flogged by Hawthorn at Casey.

Lets remember Roos coached a swans outfit that could handball 2 metres on the full to each other and can deliver good passes. Our skill level was horrible compared to the week before. Im not sure how you can compare him to neeld. I think he goes about things a different way.

But it will be interesting to see how long it really takes for the media to really have a go at Roos. No one wants to do it yet because its roos, he has the runs on the board and is a good guy.

The fact he was surprised at basic skills and composure is of great concern but if you have been at other clubs and not seen it, so it should be. Roos was at Fitzroy where they were routinely smashed but the skills and commitment were clearly better than us.

CLearly we train differently to the way we play. As Neeld used to say - "we train well but we just aren't bringing it to game day". Roos has now experienced the same thing albeit in week 2 not ni week 1.

The alarm bells will really be ringing after this week. And that is when he will really start to earn his money.

Roo's will manage the players but I suspect he will put the responsibility for what the team thinks is acceptable back on the players and the leadership group. Our team leaders need to make it clear what they think is acceptable and what isn't. I like it that Dunne acknowledged how upset the supporters are and Jones has said tonight he wasn't happy with the effort. Roos as stated will sort out what part having no forward line had on yesterdays result and what part was due to players who just lack, skill, desire and are happy to make the same errors week in week out. I want the Team Leaders to make a statement this week on the field and show what they are made off this is where the club culture starts.
