Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Know a few here in Sydney, but don't recall the name in Croydon. Any idea what street they lived in...it's a pretty big suburb (we were near the golf course).

Surprised that Croydon was suburb in 1964. I thought it was all orchards and dusty paddocks.

They live in Northcote and Castlemaine these days but I am guessing he is discussing some some of water works.

I remember the old ice works in Coolstore Road.

Think it was called a shire back then...lots of dirt roads yes, and milk and bread were delivered by horse drawn carts, but Dorset Rd was sealed.

.... no, in those days I didn't even know where croydon was. but it couldn't have been a big place in the 60's.

croydon or kilsyth, i think.

I listened to a bit of it on radio as a (nearly) 13 year old. Wasn't overly concerned as I thought we would win easily but Gabbo nearly spoilt it all. Oldest brother and I were rapt but 2nd oldest was a Pies supporter who later played a bit of footy with the Tigers. Gave him heaps but got water pistolled by him as a result. Too long ago!

IN the valley. We had our new black and white telly with a huge aerial. On GF day I was sitting in front of the box, with Channel Two running constant updates with some kind of scrolling sheet. the score kept changing, until "Final Scores" with Melbourne victorious. can't ever remember watching the replay on telly, our father was a fervent soccer man who had no time for aussie rules. I do remember some tv highlights of the second semi where melbourne slaughtering collingwood with strings of handballs and fast passing. Probably our last great September performance.

At the MCG

Can still remember the thundering horror of the (Son of Satan's ?) lumbering thundering run by Ray Gabelich as he was alone in the Pies' half of the ground due to an unanticipated kick against the flow

I remember the feeling of loss and dread well - before Neil Crompton was thrown forward and as I recall kicked across his body and it went through due to benign celestial forces that have been notably absent since.

No one would have realised at that time that it was the end of an era

I was there that day with my brother, Carlton supporter, and I thought we would bolt in, we had a really strong wind blowing our way in the last and I thought it was a matter of time, Hawthorn were only about 9 points in front if i remember correctly. I started to get a little concerned and was nearly having a heart attack by the time Hassa kicked the winning goal.

? there were 3 teams in the GF!

I was 9 days from entering the world, as I constantly reminded my parents, terrible timing from a Melbourne family.

I was 13 and in Queensland on a caravan holiday with another family.

Listened on a transistor radio.

When I look back, should have turned down the offer....

Behind the cheer squad behind the goals. Slept out overnight to get a standing room ticket. Was chewing on my heart after the Gabba run, only to see the frog a fine ex Carnegie player save the day. The Frog lived around the corner, was a lovely bloke and was a premiership player in two disciplines. ( Rare breed). Little did we know....

Everton were visiting that year and he took me to see them play at Olympic Park: Everton 8, Australia 2. (Ed.) Sorry to hijack the thread, but as a postscript I looked up the dates and Melbourne were flogged by StKilda and wunderkind, Carl Ditterich on the Saturday, a fact I had been unaware of. I guess when you are eight you don't know much.

Crowd for the soccer match was 32,000, whilst Melbourne v STKilda at the G was 35,000.

Parents weren't even born yet, they arrived 9/10 years later. Gotta feel for my old man, been waiting since '73 to see Melbourne win a GF, still wonders if he ever will.

I remember watching the 2000 GF on a deck chair in the loungeroom, hadn't even turned 5 y/o yet, and I was still shattered we lost.

Can't forget the night we lost against Freo in the finals of '06, I cried that whole night. Still waiting for another finals appearance.

I was there but too young to remember much. The only bit of play I remember was Ron Barassi and one other Melbourne player streaming forward to the city end in front of the old Members Stand with a give and get handball from Barassi to whoever and back to Barassi. (So when people say Barassi invented handball in the 1970 Grand Final...tell them they're dreaming.)

Watched the game from the wing in the southern stand. Couldn't believe Hassa missed that goal. Loved Barry Bourke's mark deep in defence with a minute or so to go. Noticed Froggy Crompton smoking a [censored] on the ground a couple minutes after the siren.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
