Interesting talking about incompetent medical teams.

So much comes down to what the players actually tells the medicos - players who's sole motivation is getting on the ground and playing the game they love.

Would you suggest Hawthorns medical staff are incompetent - Gibson has a slightly sore shoulder - Hawks give him leave to travel 16 hours on a plane to see his girfriend in the US during the bye - he comes back and says his shoulder is now REALLY sore - he has a torn pectoral - out for 10 weeks.

the missionary position isn't great for shoulders/pecs/upper body.

A bit of a simplification.

Gibson had movement and no swelling. He also participated in a recovery session and felt fine - all of which pointed to a tweak.

Paraphrasing Doc Larkins on Ed and Derm, it was a tough one to diagnose (small area which connects near the shoulder and not a lot of signs). He also mentioned the flight was no issue.

Shannon Byrnes joins Melbourne's injury list:-

Round 11

Shannon Byrnes (foot) – 2-4 weeks

Mitch Clisby (quadriceps) – 2-4 weeks

James Frawley (toe/hamstring) – test

Jesse Hogan (back) – indefinite

Max King (leg) – 4 weeks

Jake Spencer (ankle) – 4-6 weeks

Jack Trengove (foot) – season

What the hell happened to Spencer's ankle? All of a sudden he looks like he's out for most of the year!

Shame for Clisby too - he was right on the verge a couple of times and I'd be surprised if he got back in now this year.

Not sure of the specifics of Spencer's injury, but I've had ankle issues in the past, and it's very easy to re-injure or aggravate them. You can feel good to go, but then set yourself back to square one if you kick a footy too early, or even step awkwardly when running.

To me that looks like No Injuries.

Wont miss Byrnes.

Clisby although close hasn't played

Frawley back on track

Hogan has never played so won''t miss him

King - Rookie

Spencer - Gawn and jamar are doing better

Trengove haven't missed him.

I read the N.Jones article in today's Age - supposedly Pig Dog out and the Toump is in....

Anyone know what's happened to Pig Dog?

Jayden Hunt joins the list of injured with "back tightness" while Jesse Hogan remains indefinite even though he's about to start light training again.

Melbourne injury list: round 12

Shannon Byrnes (ankle) – 2-3 weeks

Mitch Clisby (quadriceps) – 2-3 weeks

Jesse Hogan (back) – indefinite

Jayden Hunt (back) – 2-4 weeks

Max King (leg) – 3-4 weeks

And no mention anywhere anytime as far as I am aware as to why PigDog missed last week, or whether he has recovered from this nasty mystery condition.

You're presuming he had a mystery condition. He could have just been omitted in preference to Toumpas.

For all the negativity about the ability of our fitness staff at the beginning of the season our injury list this year has been exceptional.

Just a shame about the quality of the people who seemed to be on it! That amplified the angst, I think - the quantity is really good, as you suggest.

I have a feeling he was omitted from the side. When you think about it last week the sub wasn't going to be Salem or JKH again, riley was the only other real option for the sub and I don't think he's game really suits it. I think maybe they went for Toumpas knowing he could play as the sub and provide more run than riley.. Just a thought

This is this week's list according to this morning's HUN. I'm unsure if it's the official list because Jayden Hunt should also be there.

Shannon Byrnes (foot) – 2-3 weeks

Mitch Clisby (quadriceps) – 2-4 weeks

James Frawley (toe/hamstring) - test

Jesse Hogan (back) – indefinite

Max King (leg) – 2-3 weeks

Looks like an old list - unless Frawley's problems have returned.

Mixed news on the injury front with Jake Spencer now requiring surgery and out for the rest of the season. Shannon Byrnes is available and Jesse Hogan is now a 6 week proposition but really should IMO be put in mothballs for 2015 (as long as the AFL permits us to do this in writing because I wouldn't want to think someone will accuse us of tanking in three or four year's time).

Melbourne injury list: round 14

Shannon Byrnes (ankle) – available

Mitch Clisby (quadriceps) – 1 week

Jesse Hogan (back) – 6 weeks

Jayden Hunt (back) – 4-6 weeks

Max King (leg) – 1 week

Jake Spencer (ankle) – season

Jack Trengove (foot) – season

Right now with the exception of Hogan we are pretty well off injury wise the rest are probably not first choice options.

I'd like to think a fully fit Jack Trengove is a first choice option. Hopefully he'll prove to us that he is next year.

I'm bookmarking this post and will bump it about halfway through next season when Trengove is smashing it.

I wonder if a certain poster will change his tune on our "incompetent" medical team and suggest that they have moved to Hawthorn who have a horrific injury list.

Spencer out for the season seemed to come out of the blue. No impact to the MFC so long as Jamar stays fit, but I really feel for the guy. Just hasn't had any real continuity.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
