Just read an article on the AFL app listing Chip as unrestricted... This really doesn't help us retaining him.

Has something suddenly changed today?? Wasn't he always going to be UFA? Hasn't there been a thread on him already? (I will unreservedly apologise and withdraw this post if that is untrue)

If he is unrestricted we still get compo but he can walk without us being able to match the offer.

Not going to make a difference.

What? He is not in our top 25% player salaries?

I just noticed Dunn is also an UFA. One of our best this pre season due to have a breakout year is an UFA. Just our luck...

His contract was apparently very front loaded and when you factor in the sort of money Dawes, Clark, Watts, Grimes Jones and Howe are on it's not all that surprising, nomatter what he does at the end of 2014 i imagine he will be earning at least twice as much

Its not Chip I am worried about as we ll get nice compo for him. I am concerned more about Dunn who is in career best form and may leave for a lesser amount then Frawley.

I reckon Dunn will stick around, mostly because i can't see any other team being that interested

I wouldn't like to lose Dunn but i don't concern myself about players leaving after Scully what's the point, if Frawley goes and that non playing FF Clarks contract is front loaded we should have a massive amount of money to spend on a star.

He goes he goes.. such is life. I rank him BEHIND Garland anyway in terms of importance to this team.

We lose one we go find another...throw some money or whatever..

Am sure Roos and co can find a suitable replacement

Im simply not going to let players dictate my concerns. Its the 'new' way of the landscape. So be it.

There will be interest for a mature bodied Half back flanker with a booming kick and leads the league for 1 on 1 contests.

This is terrible news and terrible policy; it should be average salary over the life of each players current contract.

This hurts the clubs that couldn't pay the salary floor because there was no decent players to pay - front load contracts to reach the floor and be hurt when they come out of contract.

We should appeal this, if in fact, it is a decision by AFL house that has been reflected by the website.

It doesn't make any difference because clubs don't match offers if he's gone he's gone they wouldn't make him stay.

I think their should be an appeal and the status changed. Simply because the rules changed after the contract was signed and paid. Basically there should be a transition period given his obvious importance to the club is not measured in this year's salary as the old contracts expire.

I agree he signed that contract 12 to 18 months before free agency was even introduced, do we still get a first round pick for him ?

    TRAINING: Wednesday 12th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. Firstly the bad news - McVee went down late, which does look like a bad hammy - towards the end of match sim, as he kicked the ball. Had to

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

    TRAINING: Wednesday 5th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p

    TRAINING: Wednesday 15th January 2025

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o
