While I could easily go last year's experience was a nightmare, even though I arrived in good time. The parking and traffic getting in and out is hideous.

Not to mention it's one of the worst spectator viewing grounds I've ever come across.

No thanks.

Have to agree with you there.

Hope Salem gets a run.

If we are talking about minimising turnovers, this bloke has a laser like kick, from what ive seen in the two intraclubs.

If Casey are playing after - just stick around and watch a bit of that and let the Hawks fans out of there in the rush.

And The Hood - when Roos says they are fragile, I don't think he is intimating that they should be shielded from playing good teams. That is going to happen this season...

We have already played two top 6 teams and held on own.

Having a go at the best in a praccy match will be good if they don't dwell on the bad.

And I am sure there will be a little bit of that...

so..... who can bring me up to speed with the expected ins and outs this week? By my count, last week we were missing our spine , plus viney, out of our best 22 (some other possibilities also like JKH, Strauss, Kent etc):

Chip

Garland

Jamar

Dawes

Clark

Viney

what is the latest disinformation from the club on Garland and Clark?

Only 6 teams had 50,000 members or more last year, we finished mid table coming off close to the worst year in the clubs history with 33,177 win a few games and things will improve significantly and we might get close to 40,000 that's a healthy amount for a smaller victorian club, at the end of last season we finished 6,000 members behind port who played finals and are one of only 2 SA teams

??we finished mid table?? Middle of where?

I am not sure it is a good idea to be playing the Hawks at this stage. We are trying to build confidence into the playing group, we have two good performances against the 7 and 3 finishers last season. Why play number one now? The Hawks are flying, no injuries, everyone is up and about and they are keen to overawe everyone early to get the psychological advantage on everyone. In short we could get smashed, like they have done to the North and Brisbane and a lot of good MFC vibes shattered. Not sure why we agreed to this match really.

It will be a good yardstick as to how far we have come.

I am sure Roos is experienced enough to find positives (at least behind closed doors) in the event of a blow out, and anything less will be a bonus.

Mid table in terms of total membership numbers at the end of last year.

and the other 4?

I doubt anyone knows at this time of the week C & B.

However I think you can be confident there will be no Garland, Clark, Jamar or Tapscott .

If you're going to mention the second two, you might as well also mention that I won't be playing either.

I reckon you are a way better chance than any of them Chook

Parking and entry/exit: There are now multiple lanes and traffic lights. It won't be smooth, but then it has taken me 40 mins sometimes on Queen's Birthday to get out of the MCG. Also, don't go via Cranbourne, but stick on the Freeway until the Narre Warren exit 404, travel along this unti you get to Berwick Cranbourne Rd 407. This leads straight to Casey Fields. Be wary of parking in the new estates. Some are not as close to the ground as you think, and the police will book you if you park half on a nature strip.

Why play the 2013 Premiers? Because that is who you measure yourself against, and it will expose those who cannot play under pressure. Being the last game before regular season we will get a clear picture of how/if we have progressed.

What to look for?
Which talls are fit and ready for round 1.
Who will complete the back six: Georgiou, Strauss, Clisby, other
Running forward role: Bail or Blease,
Small forward: JKH or Byrnes

Question: Reckon we can get on the ground for kick to kick?

Posted

Gee I reckon there are 14 teams spitting chips that they could not get a chance to measure themselves against the best, unlike ourselves! They will just have to do with second best stuff, poor sods.

Let us see what unfolds on Saturday.

Any idea if the club is running a shuttle bus from Cranbourne train station to the ground? Think they may have done so last year, and might be handy for those not wishing to fight traffic.

What's the story with the Russian, I haven't heard anything about him

Recovering from injury.

That is his main trick these days.

Body is deserting him.

OTH for mine

Also a one trick (=tap out, not to advantage) pony -- offers so little around the ground or up forward.

Well I've moved down from qld so I will travel any distance in Vic to see the Demons play. I think it will be about a 2hr drive which is not a bad drive.

It might be quicker to go via the queenscliff sorrento ferry!

From the Misson injury update and Clark article it sounds like a 22 regular season side featuring a sub to play the Hawks. Pedersen, Toumpas, Strauss, JKH, Viney all mentioned as due to play. I'd go with:

FB: Dunn Frawley Georgiou

HB: Grimes McDonald Strauss/Terlich/Clisby

C: Watts Jones Cross

HF: Michie Pedersen Toumpas
FF: JKH Hogan Howe

Foll: Spencer Vince Tyson

Int: Fitzy, Trengove, Viney

S: Bail

Left out who could feature in round 1 ahead of that 22:

Left over small defenders, Byrnes, Blease, Matt Jones, McKenzie?,

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
