I agree but why does it have to be either/or? It could so easily be "both". If 5 people make the decision not to go because it clashes with the opening night that $1,000 lost.

After all, I could stay at home, save $200, watch the opening game of the season and then go to the website and most likely see all the presentations by the coaches/players anyway.

I'm going but I don't understand the scheduling.

What date/time would you suggest as an alternative?

Might be drawing a long bow here but heard on the news last night about a German supermarket chain called lidl is just about to enter Australia. They are related to aldi. Some one on here said that the new sponsor was looking for branding in aus so I thought this might be a connection.

Can someone explain to me why someone who would go to a $200 MFC year commencement dinner would not go because it is on a night when the Pies and Dockers play a game at the dome of death?

I would suggest that no MFC supporter who can afford the $200 would be put off by this date.

Attending a Collingwood "Home" Game only makes them stronger. Why would any MFC Member want that!!

I hope one day that the MFC is strong enough to reclaim the Ponsford Stand Social Club for our own...

I once took an american visitor there (had a friend's two spare memberships - yes I have a friend who's a member of the floreat pica whatever) and took him into their members' stand. A group of kindly looking elderly women told me if I opened my mouth again I'd get a knitting needle in the eye - and so would the 'septic'. And that was during the reserves.

It belongs to the holding company Schwarz (named after its founder) Gruppe and is the chief competitor of the similar German discount chain Aldi. The company's colours are red, blue and yellow and a move into the Australian market is definitely on the drawing board.

There's plenty of synergy there for the MFC if it's that Company.

I'd be thankful of any extra sponsorship, and support any decision the club made - but if I had my druthers, it wouldn't be Lidl. They make "sell em cheap, stack em high" stores look like Harrods.
