LUNA PARK FAMILY DAY - Sunday, 16 February, 2014

I don't know if the club keeps a record of membership sales for its annual Family Day at Melbournes capital of fun, Luna Park but I think tomorrow (Sunday) might see some big numbers signing up.

Here are the details:-

Date: Sunday, 16 February, 2014

Time: Gates open at 9am

Location: Luna Park, 18 Lower Esplanade, St Kilda

Price: Free for all members, $10 for non-members, gold coin donation for non-member children

Entertainment: Free rides, kids activities, player signing station, giveaways, raffle, photo opportunities and more! Players will be presented on stage at 11am

There's also a blockbuster line-up of activities and entertainment, highlights (see link above).

Demonland live on location at Luna Park where there's a huge crowd and long queues for rides, show bags and food. I managed to buy some raffle tickers from Satyriconhome and I'm confident of a big win.

When I got there just after 9 as it was early, a lot of players were milling around waiting for the inevitable onslaught of attention. guys like hogan standing around relatively quietly.

The one player with a long line of autograph/photo seekers? a certain young goalsneak who kicked a lazy 3 in the last quarter Friday night. I guess he'll have to start getting used to the hype.

unless I missed it, but disappointing we didn't get to hear from paul roos onstage.

That is why we decided we'd never waste our time taking the Kids again.

Yep Roosy was on stage for a chat (I think about just before 10:30) with Robbo. It was a good day despite the weather and my older teenage girls really enjoyed themselves. I think JKH has won a couple of hearts!!!

Roosy spoke on stage. As did the captains. Dom Tyson made the wife weak at the knees and the players were very giving of their time. Plenty of smiles, photos and autographs for the kids.

But for the rain it was really enjoyable.

Here's looking to a few more happy days for the Demons this year...

That is why we decided we'd never waste our time taking the Kids again. It was an utter waste of time.

Despite those issues, the kids had a great time and were thrilled to see their heroes, get their autographs and have their photographs taken with them. Even with the lousy weather, those things alone made the morning a success and on top of that I'm sure they would have signed up a good number of members.

I thought it was a great morning, except for the rain, and well organised by the club. My kids had a ball, especially getting signatures on their backs.

Only negative was that I left thinking that Roosy wasn't there as he didn't get on stage with the boys at the end. Apparently he was there though and I missed him.

I spoke to quite a few of the players, surprise surprise....one thing they were all stoked about was the noise from Melb supporters on Friday night....

Roos was as per normal keeping a lid on

Estimate of crowd about 2 to 3000

Sorry W J that the tickets were a fizzer, any consolation, couldn't even sell myself a winner

Cause the kids get embarrassed when the parents hog all the junk food and rides...?

Roosy was there and he was interviewed on the podium by Robbo. Both real good performers with the microphone.

No, because the kids queued for an hour to get on the Ghost train and got off saying it was boring as bat **** (poetic licence).

To say they were underwhelmed by the day is an understatement.

I'm pleased to hear that it's only my children with unrealistic expectations and that "a good time was had by all".

Robbo certainly has the gift of the gab. I was listening to him last week at the Ballarat Demons family day. Very polished performer. He is a very good public speaker. And he doesn't sugarcoat things. We have been crap for a long time and he didn't shy away from that and let everybody know that there is a lot of hard work involved to be competitive with the best teams. But talk is cheap. Performances like Friday night will help turn the page for the MIGHTY MFC!!!

Didn't see you there among the Demon faithful, though I saw your nephew.

I suppose I didn't win the raffle?

The club was the winner. I'm happy for the person who won tickets to the game but I wouldn't be comfortable catching a plane for the sole purpose of witnessing a game in that godawful neck of the woods.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
