Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The rise of the Toump

I saw Jimmy playing SANFL and state junior football and what we saw in 2013 was not the real Toumpas. He was recovering from two hip operations and was asked to play in a team whose more experienced players struggled to fend for themselves let alone look after their younger players. I'm confident both areas will improve dramatically in 2014 and Toumpas will show us what he's really made of.

Wow......All this for a young rookie who was getting over an injury in his first year......Just...Wow....

. I'll take that bet. What shall we wager and how will we determine a winner?

Haha well done on winning the 'worst post ever' Title..

While we are at it you can have tool of the year aswell.. FMD

i really dont want to get abusive here, holding it back.

But it's AFL supporters like you that make me want to tear out the seats at the MCG.

I will reiterate a point that you're seeming to forget, we HAVE NEVER had a player of such class and composure with the footy.

Toumpas by 2016 will be a far better player than Jones IMO, he will surpass our so called 'good players' so quickly ill be like a flash of light.

Perhaps we've assumed wrongly. It's a given that posters seem to think Roost It doesn't know what he's talking about, so it's equally possible on that logic that he thinks Morton is the best AFL player the world has ever seen. If that's the case, a player falling somewhere between the best AFL player the world has ever seen and a B-grader will turn out to be a darn good player. Perhaps Roost It should be given the credit he deserves for his post.

He will be first picked in my dream team this year.

You condemn me for not rating a player as highly as you do. He has not shown an appetite for the contest. He will get eaten alive by the experienced sides and play his good games against the young ones. You lot will rave on about these games. I will groan at you posts and Jimmy will at out his career as a bit player

All well and good. But as i say in the post from me you quoted i am willing to bet you are wrong. Again i say put your money where your (virtual) mouth is.

You are the one who said you are willing to bet that your assessment of the toump is correct. Well i say put up or shut up. Lets not make it a money bet, Something more creative. Perhaps Demonland can come up with a stake. Again put up or shut up.

Interesting. Nice move of the goals posts. Your asserted that you were willing to bet that he would never become more than an average player and i said i would take that bet. You might remember i also suggested a metric of 2 years in the next six where he gets more than 10 votes in the brownlow (using the logic that the brownlow is the mid fielders award).

Now you are moving it to having an ordinary year? Troll like.

I'm happy to take the original bet, with the loser no longer posting on Demonland.

So, will you take the bet? Given how confident you seem to be about your assessment of the Toump's potential i would be puzzled if you don't.

Its up to you whether you choose to rate him or not but being his best game last year was a 20 possession 7 tackle game in a 68 point loss to Geelong in the pouring rain I don't quite get this point. For those that had seen him prior Toumpas was clearly not himself last year and under performed against most peoples expectations. I expect if Roos was coaching last year we would not have seen him at all. However he showed a capacity to want to work and a care to want to get the best out of himself. I look forward to seeing what Jimmy can do with a full preseason not hampered by hip surgery and expect most of the doubters will be eating their words reasonably quickly.

That's because the cats paid absolutely zero respect for him and let him do his own thing all game. Just like the did with Gysberts so I wouldn't be to excited by this game he played.

Still, I am a big fan and think he will be a really good 10 year player. He has an incredible desire to push himself further and a want to get better. You can see this from the way he trains, the way he runs and how he speaks. And unlike a lot of others on our list he has a heap of polish which we desperately need.

I still have relatively low expectations on him for the 2014 season but expect to see some cracking quarters/halves here and there.

I still rate him pretty highly. He has exceptional skills and game-sense and pretty decent pace. Whether he has physicality we will have to wait to discover since he was being treated pretty carefully this year. He has certainly built his body up and now looks like he can hold his own. Based on what we have seen of him so far we have at the very least a highly skilled outside mid who will be very damaging sending the ball into our forward 50. Our forwards will love him for that. If he does turn out to have a good inside game as well then we have the complete package and we can all sit back and enjoy the ride. It's basically a matter of a win or a really big win.

if he gets 20 votes next year does that count as = to 10 each for 2 years

don't think i can keep the interest up for 6 years

Just to avoid an ambiguous reading Binman: Are you betting he'll poll a total of 10 or more votes in his best 2 out of the next 6 seasons (ie. 5 per season) or must he poll 10 or more per season in at least 2 of the next 6 seasons? Big difference.

No one will remember who each of you posters are least alone this bet in six years. That's because we will be celebrating our 2nd flag in a row......... ;)

Well, I can dream. Might even have a little wager with myself. If we win 2 in a row, I'll celebrate with a dozen bottles of a fantastic French champagne, and if we don't, I'll drown my sorrows in a bottle of single malt whiskey of my choosing at the time. Sounds like a win, win, to me.

I don't know about the rest of you here, but I find it pretty sad that one of our (supposed) supporters appears almost to have a wish that one of our (by and large) highly rated youngsters turns into a failure: hell, we have had enough of those over the past decayed decade, so I guess some may have become scarred.

Still, to each his own.

I for one look forward to season 2014 and look forward with some degree of optimism (I know, common at this time of year) at seeing young Toumpas develop, with his first uninterrupted and injury free preseason and hopefully become at least a very good player....and stuff Ollie Wines.

i know a very nice seminary that is reputedly very good at grooming young fellas

Greek men don't need much encouragement to get into the gymnasium or the hairdresser usually DC but if you think it's worth a try then we should send him off.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
