Just to avoid an ambiguous reading Binman: Are you betting he'll poll a total of 10 or more votes in his best 2 out of the next 6 seasons (ie. 5 per season) or must he poll 10 or more per season in at least 2 of the next 6 seasons? Big difference.

. The latter. Which means I may not have to wait six years to win. He could poll 10 or more in the next two seasons and I'm a winner!

I love your optimism.

However in 2013 only 34 players polled 10+ votes (under 2 per team & no MFC)

MFC got 16 votes; Jones 6, Watts 3. Of the entire 215 vote getters, we had 6!! Franklin & Judd got 5.

I want you to win this bet Binman but you're setting the bar higher than necessary to make your point! Roost It would have bet on anything & you're making it that you lose unless Toumpas becomes pretty much elite! 6 votes instead of 10 would seem a fairer bet.

Done. If the toump polls 10 or more brownlow votes in 2 of the next six seasons you stop posting on Demonland. If he doesn't i will stop. Best of luck.

no deal. it has to be a rating of 2014.

i want you off demonland before xmas

Sorry have i missed something? You trumpeted that the Toump was weak and in your view would be never be better than somewhere between Cale Morton and a B grader. Fine, everyone's entitled to their opinion. However you upped the ante when someone disagreed and you responded by saying you would bet that you are correct.

I agreed to take the bet. I put up what are reasonable terms and you baulk. All talk. Nothing is more annoying than someone who talks the big talk and won't back it up.

Do you seriously think that one season (his second in the AFL) will satisfactorily answer the question of how good the toump will become? You're either clueless or a troll - i suspect the latter.

Anyway more fool me for engaging in this discussion. I will now put you on ignore ( a select group i must say so congrats).

By the by i suspect the Toump will have a terrific 2014.

Whatever

How's this

If he's ordinary next year you can't post again until he has a good year. I'm happy to factor in his years in the game. Happy now?

You're pot shotting one of the our great hopes for the future about not being hard at the contest and an appetite for the rough stuff and this coming from a man sitting behind a computer? ..... Irony it's a beautiful thing!

Posted

Every club in the competition would be happy to have Toumpas on their list.

He was considered a steal at pick 4. And I expect by this time next year the doubters will start to see why.

Quite simply, he has class.

Posted

If I can't have an opinion on a players hardness and appetite for the contest on a football forum what do you want to talk about?

I know, how good all our players are!!

I played football until I was 26. At a reasonable level. I took the odd short step, everyone does. I also went when it was my turn. I dont see Toumpas doing that.

Just asking, you seem to have wavered on your opinion. If you are so strong in your opinion you would have taken up the bet, you backed down. Hold your opinion if you have it and back it up, you may well be right.

Set what you consider to be a reasonable measure on Morton to B grade, 'binman' considered it Brownlow votes over a few years but you might have a different measure. I am interested in how you would measure it. It does have to be over his career though and not just 2014.

No, but I am interested in how you would judge your opinion to be correct over the term of a career.

It did seem a bit premature to judge Toumpas as you have but you may well be correct. I hope not and haven't seen enough to say you are but I have held similar opinions on other players in the past.

Posted (edited)

I for one am not relying on one single player to become the league champion, and draging the rest of the sorry arse team with them....

Im hopeing that Toumpas becomes a valued member of a champion team....

We don't need heroes.... We need a team that works together and works hard for each other....

Im sick of people pumping up single players, like they are the ones who will save us!... It only puts unreasonable expectation on that player... And when it doesn't work out, we get.... Morton a dud.... watts the dud.... THE WHOLE TEAM ARE DUDS!!! At the moment....

Im sick of heroes..... I want a good team!!!

Pfffffft.

What "Roost It" knows about footy could be written on the back of a postage stamp.

Consistently over the years he's shown as much.

Wouldn't be concerned with his Richmond-style "support" for the club and player.

Year 6 doesn't count. Check out the 2 Bulldogs games, North Melbourne game, Crows game, Geelong game to name a few. Guys, don't bother with this keyboard warrior. He's tough behind the keyboard. I bet your the bloke sitting in the stands closest to the 4n20 outlet. Go support another Club, maybe Collingwood would suit you.

Roost It letting us all know that he reckons he has sweatier b***s than Toumpas.

With a side of telling the rest of us 'he knows how good all our players are'.

A late entry for 'keyboard warrior' post of the year?

Posted

I don't agree with Roost and Lord knows he can't abide me, but he's quite within his rights to have an opinion, even if it's unpopular.

Why do people get so offended by views with which they disagree ? Argue why it's poorly conceived, but there's no need to rubbish the individual for having such an opinion.

That has to go down as post of the year, and such a late entry!

Pathetic! But suit yourself.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
