I have a mandatory annual leave day off tomorrow so I intend to ride my bike down to training at 9.30 am.

Warning: I will be wearing some Lycra and due to injury I am carrying some extra weight but I will try to keep a low profile.

My first visit under the new regime so I am hoping to see a difference. I have complained before about a lack of urgency and regimen at training last year but that was maybe because I was ducking out from work nearby and had limited time. But I still think training should be very regimented. Let's see how they go tomorrow

Don't forget to take an amphora to collect any results of your libations.

Wouldn't want you to outrage any of the plebians.

DC an amphora doesn't fit well on a bike actually I have only a plastic drink bottle. And are we inferring the lack of toilets at that end of The Gosch in your talk of libations?

Heh heh, I'm visiting Melbourne, staying with a friend within sight of the 'G and have the morning free.

There's a turnaround for convenience! Probably first training session I've made it to in years.

Thanks in advance to those who report. I'm wondering if anyone catches sight of Dawes out on the track. I know he's doing bike and gym work, looking forward to seeing him with the main list at Gosch's. salivating at the thought of Clark, Dawes and Hogan together.

I'd love to know if there are any specific drills where the backs, mids & forwards are training together so we might get an idea if a certain player will be looking at at new role this year.

For example, Grimes returning to backline, Tappy up forward or within the mids (if he is ever out of the rehab group) or even Clark having a run around with the Rush and big Spence.

Thanks guys and gals xo

Are they training kick ins? If so which players are kicking in?

This is a skill we need to work on

With the ball in defense a lot we need to improve our ability to move it forward.

my biggest concern and worry is mr jamar

he is the one that I would like to get fitness/training reports on,

if anybody and its normally saty could get some info on his progress I would be interested

I dropped in for my very first training session today and had a great time watching the boys. I wasn't making any specific notes but here are some rough observations I made

- Jay Kennedy Harris is an impressive young talent. Was very clean with his disposal and is a good mark.

- I saw Jesse Hogan in person for the first time and he has great pace and disposal for a man of his size.

- Fitzy was leading and marking well.

- Clark looked fine. No discomfort from what I saw.

- Gawn and Salem were running laps.

- Another group (Rehab?) was on the other oval consisting of Mckenzie, Tappy, Spencer and a few others I couldn't identify.

- I couldn't see Jamar anywhere.

- Overall, the skill level seemed very high and there was plenty of good intensity.

Here we go first try, old memory

Kent, Riley and Dawes were out early doing ball work and then disappeared back into AAMI

"rehab' group, Jamar (sorry) McKenzie, Spencer, Tapsoctt (sorry), Tyson, Garland, Jetta, Blease , Gawn and Salem, none seemed restricted whatsoever running, twisting, turning, kicking, think it is what I said before, one little niggle and you are in the rehab group

Strauss back in full traiining apart from not being allowed to tackle or be tackled, same with Tommy Mc

Observations - thought Nathan Jones was a training machine, Daniel Cross puts even him to shame, already changed my opinion about signing him, can see why now, if he plays as well as he is training....and for all the Nicho lovers out there, a tale of two half volley kicks Cross picked it up beautifully without breaking stride, Nicho got hit in the face

Vince - his kicking is a thing of beauty

Barry - is improving every time I see him, and agree about JK Harris

Hogan's shape has already changed in the month or so they've been back, starting to look ripped

Clark came off at one stage and they looked at his foot, I held my breath, not sure what the prob was but he went back and continued

Of the new rookies, can see why we picked King, got a really good body shape to build on, smooth mover as well for his zise, in one early drill the had the defenders against each other Georgiou showed his intent by banging into Pederson, Harmes is another big body........I think with Roos "size does matter"

Took photos of the rookies will be on my twitter tonight, forgot the lead to the camera ....damn

Standouts for me today, both Jones'., Watts, Howe

Of the drills apart from the grappling, tackling and wrestling which seems to be have beocome the norm, a lot of the drills were coming out of defence, but in waves and then going back the other way, some of the speed of movement was very impressive

As normal any questions feel free

They are not training kick ins, think that will come later, seems to be all about running and running to get on the end of kicks and give options, they don't do them in the groups either defenders etc, you can end up with Chip kicking for goal, which he did with an outrageous around the corner at one stage

Agree with your assessment of JKH, looks very balanced, quick and clean hands. He was working with the forward group when I arrived, seemed to fit in nicely as a small forward option but of course he will take time. I think Bail was working with the forwards as well.

Everyone looked fit and sharp at this stage of the season but I remember we looked good in preseason last year.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
