MFC Briefing

Although invited, I was unable to attend a briefing by Peter Jackson and Paul Roos last night in the MCC Committee room. If anyone did attend, can they please give us a summary.

PJ said we are on track for break-even 2014 after a loss of about $1.5M for 2013. He said we have a full book of sponsors who should stick. We are 3 weeks ahead of last year to sign up 20000 members.

There were no nominations for directors of MFC so no need for an election to be held with corresponding savings in postage and other costs.

Roos was super impressive and confident. He says we will improve but it is up to the players to drive the club forward. He is impressed with Howes athleticism and could be played in forward/midfield. Watts will also be used in midfield with bursts off the interchange bench a la Goodes. The recruiters thought Salem was worth pick 3 and so we effectively traded pick 2 for 2 pick 3's as Tyson was taken at pick 3 by GWS 2 years ago.

Thanks Bazza. It is nice that the positivity persists. Subsequent to my initial post, I was told that it was a super impressive night.

Arguably this just in itself shows how successful our draft/trade period has been.

To a few on here the proof is the pudding!

I would love to eat some pudding from the 2013 trade and draft period in a few years time.

So no election this year which means democracy prevails.

Does this mean we members are in control of the club or is the AFL?

Whoever it is they are finally doing a good job.

If the masses get angry enough we can have a vote. But I told Land this would happen - the is no need for us to stand up and yell for the club to pull its collective finger out - it's done.

The AFL have parachuted in a CEO, he somehow got Roos into the fold, and the Board has a new head and is (as always it seems) impressive in the eyes of the AFL.

So, no elections.

Why in god's name would we need an election now? The only candidate that could be considered anti the current board is Alan Stockdale and what is his genius idea? Reviving the club by 'growing the brand'? We don't have a marketing problem, we have a football problem.

Any member can nominate. Only need a couple of other members to sign the form.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the

We'll break down the Match SIM against North Melbourne and wrap up the preseason with insights into training and our latest recruits. Thankfully, the offseason has recharged me, and I’m back—ready t
