Darcy Hourigan looks a good prospect, good hands, good kick and good awareness.

Big kid 192 and 92kgs worth a spot.

Also very mobile and knows where the goals are.

At this point we have 40 primary list players and therefore won't have a selection in the PSD (unless there's a late delisting or retirement). We have four vacancies on our rookie list. This means we have four selections for the rookie draft starting with 2, then 20 etc.

Ok thankyou for clarifying. I suspect Dan Nicholson may be delisted as he has not been offered a new contract.

Is it possible to delist him to free up a PSD pick and then rookie him ?

If that's the case, am I right in thinking that's pretty harsh player management?

If the club's going to delist him, should they not have given him the opportunity of participating in the national draft etc?

Not if they have already told him they will re-rookie him. Harsh but fair going on his output to the MFC

You are right, but that is the way it is going. Later and later contract decisions for fringeplayers/possible delistees.

October would not be a fun month for those types.

I can see the introduction of the US system of taking in FA and the Draft more players than you have spots on the list and then having a few players that were undrafted come in aswell on short contracts and then they all fight for the last few spots like a testosterone filled game of musical chairs...

If the club has not delisted him already but plans to then they would have probably already negotiated that with him, so that he knows and has presumably agreed. otherwise he would be asking to be released so he can go into the draft,

If Nicho is delisted now the only way he can be picked up is as a rookie?

Seems wrong.

He can be picked up in DFA by another team.

Rookie for needs?

Ruckman, small forward/mid and kpd.

Don't forget we are probably taking Jetta so only 3 live picks.

I would much rather take Taggert then Jetta (if possible). Jetta has been given a shot and is almost 24. Taggert has more potential and was unlucky with injuries.

I think there has to come a point in time where you have to look at the list with a harsh but realistic view and say will player X be part of our future? and Is it worth having a punt on speculative PSD player instead?.

In my view I cant ever see Nicho (23 yrs old) being a good player and think that we would be better taking our chances with a speculative pick like Hunt. It's time Melbourne turned the corner and stopped carrying dead weight. If Roos has some alternative reason for keeping him (depth) then I would understand him staying on for a year but I just cant stand wasting a spot on the list on a player that will never make it, demands money and wastes time that could be spent on someone else.

I know its a little harsh but at the end of the day we need to become a ruthless club and this is what it takes.

At first I was disappointed to see Jetta dropped but I now think it was the right decision same scenario as Nicho. I dont want to miss out on a diamond in the rough for the sake of keeping Nicho/Jetta on for another year no matter how small the chance of finding that diamond.

Where do people see Nicho with our new midfield?

The forward line also has better options Blease, Kent, Harris, Barry etc. The backline has Grimes, Terlich, Clisby, Strauss etc.

Hopefully we wont need to cut so many next year but there are a few which already have their hands up Pedersen, Byrnes etc. I believe Roos is able to make the harsh calls like Jetta and without turning the whole playing group against him.

Just waiting for the Nicho call.

There was an article the other week about a potential draftee who has been quite deaf since birth. He was considered a good chance but I can't remember his name or if he got drafted. Can anyone advise

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
