Since when are leadership qualities and the ability to remain uninjured and kick few goals, one and the same thing? When he was on the field he showed leadership in spades, when he fronted the media he showed leadership in spades, and no doubt around the MFC between games, he showed leadership as well.

He needs to play and kick goals to make his acquisition a positive, so far it's not. Leadership won't cut it on it's own, it's a nice side benefit but it's not the objective.

The best thing I can say about Dawes is that he feels like a Dees player. He has totally embraced the club from the moment he arrived which is to his credit.

Now he just needs to stop getting injured..

He's on the park less than Dawes.

You can have worth off the field, and you can certainly show leadership there.

Same goes for Clark, he has to make an impact this coming season.

It's great they are solid citizens and show leadership around the club, are good guys but in the end their worth will be judged by what they do on the ground.

But none-the-less, his statement that I commented on, was in essence correct.

We have a history of having our better players on the sidelines for extended periods of time, with one injury after another; hopefully Clark and Dawes will get through a season with neither having any serious injuries.

I do get the feeling, however, that Dawes is going to be one of those players that will always have some sort of niggling injury that will keep him out for a couple of weeks at a time. I love the way he goes about it and if he can stay on the park he would be a very good leader.

Gary Lyons was a classic example of this! I hope that we don't have to endure another season of Lyons selecting against Melbourne every week in his footy tipping (serving to drive our player's morale lower than it deserved)!

Dawes has been okay. Not terrific by any means.

Hopefully he'll be able to get on the park for most of next year alongside Clark and Hogan and THEN maybe he will be terrific.

It's not bagging him 'binman', he hasn't been terrific because he's yet to have an impact.

Injuries are part of the equation, I know they're not his fault and I hope he can get on the park and be terrific. That's what we got him for; not to sit and hold Neeld's hand in a press conference or give good interviews. To me it seems to be stating the obvious but we want him playing good footy.

Let Roos, Mahoney and Jackson do their job and let Dawes play footy.

Clarks one injury away from retirement , it's alright to be a solid citizen but lederships needed on field, he's useless to us in the Grandstand every week.

Q) What do Chris Dawes and Dylan Addision have in common?

A) they both kicked 12 goals in 12 games in 2013.

Apart from that, one played for an up and coming side with a pretty good midfield and the other played for the worst side in the competition with the worst midfield, probably ever, to play for an AFL side.
