Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

In the 2014 free agency period he is bound to be hot property and i think we need to get him on at least a 3 year contract.

Get onto it Roosy.

An offer should be put to him but we need to be smart about this. Chip is in the same boat Watts was but even more so. He is coming into his 8th year of AFL footy and his 7th coach. He has been through roughly 4 CEO's. Jack has some time still to garner genuine team success. Chip is probably thinking he should be playing finals right damn now (and it looked like he was going to at the end of 2010). Any offer that is put forward to James needs to have this in mind (though I'm sure PJ and PR are cognizant of this). He needs to be told he is needed.

I view Chip as a Jared Rivers type of player. He has had a thankless task the last 6 odd years under huge pressure and very rarely dogged it. If he did at times, I would have felt for him.

We need to see drastic yet realistic improvement next year in order for Chip to stay I believe. If there are quality signs of us turning it around and playing very good football like Port Adelaide has done this year, I have every bit of confidence he will sign. I think this is a make or break season for a player of his calibre

Drastic improvement is quite unrealistic, if you ask me. I do agree that he won't re-sign unless there are good signs next year, though. Frawley is a player that we absolutely cannot afford to lose.

His end of year video seemed like he wants to stay...

I hope he genuinely feels like he wants to stay.

A few weeks before he left us for greener pastures, Colin Sylvia also said he wanted to stay with us and how he loved the club.

Playing for the jumper has become a dead issue for most players who want to get 'big money' and achieve 'on-field success'. And given the 'meat market' that the AFL has created, who can blame them?

The best way to keep Frawley is for the team to show definite improvement next year.

I have no doubt that significant people at MFC will be in his ear and that of his manager around about now, if they haven't already done so.

The best thing to do is have a team that doesnt absolutely need one particular person or another to be in it.

This is Melbourne, we are the Demons, stay go..whatever. This panicking is hilarious. Hes an RFA next year..not a FA !!

minimum 4 yrs at min. $450, 000 =min $1.8 million.

we have lost 3 out of 3 free agents

it was not meant to work this way to "equalize" where the rich rob the poor

It was always going to pan out like this . What did you expect?!!

This is the very reason the afl dragged their heels on free agency.

If he is really keen to leave he can simply leave the old fashioned way - through the PSD.

I wonder what his Tippett point is

'Drastic improvement' or simply 'good improvement', it definitely plays a part.

Let's put it this way - every win knocks about $10,000/year off what he'd want from us to stay compared to going to another club. The creation of a consistent, coherent and effective training and coaching environment could make as much difference as that, too.

Oops, what's that? Free agency actually puts salary cap pressure onto the weaker clubs trying to retain players, rather than the stronger ones looking to top up? Gee, never would'e seen than coming.

Anyway, not just Frawley but all our players will be looking to see real improvement and real prospects for the future. 2014 has to be 'some kind of a success' or we're right back onto skid row.

Don't think he needs to go not the PSD, he can simply name his club and amount, we can either match it or choose not to. PSD doesn't come into the equation rpfc, from what I understand.

We are given the right to match any offer right?

Ok, I will clear up the confusion with Restricted FA (bookmark this page in your browser of choice):

A club extends an 'offer sheet' of sorts to a player from another club. If that player would like to go to that club he can sign it. If his club would like to keep him, they may say "we will meet that contract."

At this point, the player can sign with his club or go through the ND or the PSD. In the NBA - a restricted FA must remain with his club if his club meets the offer sheet, but that is not the case in the AFL.

Frawley can agree to go to a team and we can 'meet his contract' and he can still go through the drafts.

Please understand this - it might save you some headaches later on (hopefully not heartaches...).

As RPFC says. What our ability to match offers does is force clubs to pay well over his value if they want to get him or else risk trying to get him in the draft. I think you'd want to have a pretty early PSD pick to be confident of nabbing him if you went that route, because there aren't many clubs who wouldn't want him.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
