Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I have posted before but I can claim to have played with 2 brownlow medalists.

Bernie Quinlan and Kelvin Templeton.

I was a slow 4'11 useless forward pocket whose glory was a speccie off the shouldres of the tallest kid in the school. Unfortunately the impact of the ball at my peak altitude knocked me arse over and i never did kick that one goal. The sports teacher concerned for my wellbeing told me to go and play the game that had a position designed for me Shortstop and Baseball it was, my glorious footy career halted.

I did play basketball with Bernie who played centre and my role was to pass to him cut into the key and he would shoot the goal over my head. a moving screen developed from Lindsay Gaze tigers who were coaching one of  our finest teammates.

Kelvin was a pretty handy tennis player and I dont think he ever beat me coz I was a few years older and he did go to Footscray to train and didnt get much court time after that. I have an interesting story also told before that as he had no one to play with (Lived at Tyers out of Traralgon) he practised by kicking at his house chimney and taking the mark as it bounced off , if he missed he had to run around and collect the ball himself. Became pretty accurate and a good mrk

Loved all sports and still play squash at Milawa where the enjoyment level is great. Also play tennis with Graeme Cordy so the footy talk up here has a knowledgable edge.

I went to Mt Scopus and I can fondly remember Peter Knights playing against our school team ( my dodgy memory tells me he went to Camberwell high ?).

He was play school footy at the same time as his first year at Hawthorn. He kicked 12 goals against our firsts from Centre Half Back and took 16 marks - 14 were uncontested after the first two marks he took were standing on our ruckmans head - after that no one went near him for fear of getting bootstuds in the back of the head

Played 50 forgettable games as a junior, before a series of minor non-career-threatening finger injuries saw me give the game away in about the under 12's.

Like others on here, spent a lot of time on the bench, and then resting in the forward pocket, which hadn't even been invented yet.

Nonetheless, I did get my moment in the sun, when I managed a scrubber goal from about 10 metres out in the dying seconds of a game to level the scores just as the siren rang. It was the day after Gubby Allen's infamous last-minute kick across goal at the Whitten Oval, which was intercepted by Simon Beasley who goaled to get the Doggies home. I was carried off the ground by my delighted team-mates, who were chanting "Beasley, Beasley", which is a shame because that's not my name.

Worked through St Peters, then North Blackburn in the eastern suburban churches league - not many 'churchy' types played there.

No teeth and home made tatts were the order of the day.

Played a couple of years in the Goulburn Valley for Echuca, earning about 300 dollars a game....pretty good paper for the 80s!

Gave up just before our first child was born......well over 250 games of suburban and country footy. Still have the mangled fingers ;)

played for burwood united in the churches comp in the60s -70s cant remember playing blackburn but teams came and went in those days.John Townsend coach school footy in 60s think it was blackburn or nunawading

Played for ten years in the Amateurs through the eighties, a local side, the same one that Peter Norman (Mexico City Olympic Silver medallist) played at, although he was before my time. One premiership, one runners-up, a couple of B&Fs (one in the seniors, one in the reserves). Saw lots of good players, had a great time.

I still dream football dreams.

I'm told footballers actually do all right with the ladies.

I'm better between the sheets than in front of goals so I stand by my decision. Wasn't going to go anywhere as a footballer, but did ok in the other department.

Ran the boundary for Mitcham Under 15's as I was not good enough to get a game. They were a feeder club to Richmond then so very strong junior levels. Mates were at Nunawading so played under 17's and filled in for the seniors when needed. Had 1.5 seasons with Box Hill Div 2 VFL reserves then out to Koonung East Kew in the Eastern Sub Churches. Back to EDFL with Heathmont, for a season then semi retired (got married). Came back to footy aged 28 and played with some mates at Springbank in the Central Highlands League back in 1986/7. Must say the Country Footy Leagues were the best really enjoyed my time there.

I came before you but did play in a school match in which Bill Walford later of Richmond and South Melbourne played for the opposition. He intimidated us but not me - I was 19th man and didn't get on until three quarter time and he was buggered and sent to rest in the back pocket. I was in the forward pocket and we were kicking against a raging gale so the ball didn't come anywhere near us. Even though he threatened to kick my head over the change rooms if I touched the footy, it didn't happen and I can boast that I actually held a VFL player kickless in the quarter I played on him.

5 Seasons with Ballarat Swans in BFL in the mid sixties then 4 seasons with Horsham in the Wimmera FL incl a flag in 1970 coached by Gary Hamer. Some notable ex VFL playing in those days, Roy West, Des Dickson (mongrel) with Stawell and Russell Crowe with Warracknabeal. Finished up coaching in the Horsham district league for 3 years before the body gave out.

Played juniors at south Mornington on the Mornington peninsula from the age of 9 until I was 16 during my time there I played in inter league comps (my biggest claim to fame was winning inter league best and fastest over lachie Whitfield in under 15s ;) ) I also played a few years with the stringrays but got cut just before TAC cup was due to start.

I then played 2 years with mt Eliza in the under 18s and then seniors before injuring my back and never making it back out on the park :(

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin ventured down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you his observations from this morning's Captain's Run including some hints at the changes for our ANZAC Eve clash against the Tigers. Sunny, though a touch windy, this morning, 23 of them no emergencies.  Forwards out first. There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
