Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Kade Kolodjashnij

National Carnival Stats:

KK's video was the most impressive I viewed. I particularly liked his intercept marking & his left foot is a gem. Hit targets both long & short. My question is where does he fit with MFC

Loved everything about Freeman except his kicking. Even in the clear he was missing targets. But his attack on the ball & his speed is tantalising. I'd be interested to hear from someone who'd seen him play a bit whether his disposal efficiency is a concern

Lennon was very impressive but again I wonder if he is a type we need immediately. Really liked his kicking & he seemed to have that little bit of time that good players have

As I watched Sheed's video I began to picture him on the MCG in a Demon jumper, about to pump the ball inside 50. He to me looked like what we need right now. He looked equally at home receiving the ball through running to the right spot as he did going in & getting it. He's not Usain Bolt but he's quicker than I'd been led to believe.

Based on the video (which I acknowledge is a poor means of assessment) that's my four candidates with Sheed slightly ahead in my preference. I would be happy with any of them though

Quite simple. As I have stated we have no backline players who can consistently hit targets. Kolodjashnij's left foot is a weapon and we can definitely use that coming out of the backline. IMO our rebounding from defence was poor at times last year and he would shore it up a bit.

On the comparison between Patrick Dangerfield and Nathan Freeman, "Danger" was drafted by the Crows as a bottom ager in the 2007 national draft when it was still possible to draft 17 year olds (they had to be born between 1 January and 30 April) i.e similar in age to O'Meara, B Crouch, Martin and Hogan. He initially stayed home and played mainly for the Geelong Falcons but I think he got a couple of games for the Crows in late 2008.

Freeman is basically at an equivalent stage to where Dangerfield was at the end of 2008. He's also a fair bit shorter than Dangerfield who is 189cm.

Bang on WJ.

"Dangaz" (as he is called) was played at FF at times also, when playing for the falcons back in Geelong, in his first year on the crows list.

I vaguely remember him kicking 10 goals in a match, before they put a stop to him playing & created a rule that prevented kids on AFL lists from playing TAC Cup. Wasn't expected to on being drafted, but did play a few games for the crows. He lived in Moggs Creek near Angelsea with his family and only went over to Adelaide to train on school holidays.

Also was school captain & gave a graduation speech where he joked about how that year he'd been paid more to muck around in class than any of his teachers were paid to teach him.

A fair smartarse, as his dad was a teacher at the school.

I'll be happy with any of the mentioned options. They are all talented kids with the potential to add to our midfield.

I'd be happiest if we drafted Freeman though, as I think his pace offers something different to our midfield. We don't have much pace through the middle, and even though he has spent more time at underage level winning inside ball, he clearly has the attributes to be a link up player too. He could become a very well rounded midfielder and feel that speed adds something more for us.

I have a feeling we will go for a midfielder/flanker with height. KK is a big chance to be picked up by us. Left footer who is so clean by foot and can take a mark. Fyfe is a similar player with his height also kolodjashni is a better kick.

You describe Lennon perfectly. I agree with you choice.

I had a look at them all and I thought freeman's kicking was ordinary. Not sure we need another turnover merchant at the club.

I loved the look of sheed. Looks tough and a real leader - would play in the guts straight away and I thought his skills looked pretty clean as well.

Lennon and kk both look smooth movers with lovely skills but not sure they will help with our midfield problems straight up.

Sheed for mine. Future co-captain with Viney no doubt.

I think out of all of these probable available players mentioned for pick 9, for me at least, highlights how well we've done in trading pick 2.

Dom Tyson would still be right up there in this draft if he was on the open market. For us to still be able to grab a quality player at pick 9 in a draft where the order of players after Tom Boyd is still basically unknown and the players are so even, is in my eyes a big tick to the Melbourne recruiting staff.

With our midfield taking shape, I wouldn't be surprised if we take a big leap forward nest year.

The KPP's are always the hard ones to replace, and we have a pretty good spine.

I'll be intrigued to see if our instant midfield gels and hope that we all see the results that we have been craving for the last 7 years.

Picks 1 & 2 are Boyd & Scharenberg for me. Then I think its very even for the next dozen.

Aish, Kelly, Billings, Crouch, Sheed,(mcdonald), Freeman, Kolodashnji, Bontempelli, Lennon, Dunstan and Salem. And Lewis Taylor will be very very good as well. We are well placed for pick 9.

I would not know who the club would pick, this thread is good to read and along with my limited viewing of draftees - that's all I've got to go on. Based on some of the posts here I gather we will be well placed come pick 9, and it will add to our influx of incoming mids into the team.

You can't help but be buoyed at the significant changes, soon it will be up to Roos and his assistants to knuckle down and mould them into a well synergised midfield unit.

Michie, Vince, Tyson and p9 will be welcome additions to that of Jones, Toumpas and Trengove heading up the midfield. And I expect the likes of M.Jones and Kent to have improved significantly on their first year at the club.

I haven't has time to look at all the clips, but I liked the looks of:

Bontempelli - seems to have the ball on a string, and a good left foot kick

Koladjashnij - imaging having a tall left footed HB who can actually kick with precision? Could play off HB or through the guts I reckon. Tasmanian. so no return home factor. :-)

Everyone here seems to have pretty mixed views - I haven't studied this years draftees much but it seems we did the right thing acquiring pick 9 if the top 10 are very similar.

Won't name a player because I don't know enough to say but I would like a player who is both inside and outside mid and have and someone with some pace/height. (I think thats what we lack).

I would also like someone who could come on quickly - not a long term prospect that we could stuff up (Morton) but thats purely because I can't be bothered waiting not because I don't trust Roos.

Who ever we draft I will be comfortable knowing they have a midfield around them that can protect and guide them.

Agree Bingo, and, if we can fly higher than the Hawks, Swans, Magpies, Crows or even the Eagles we will be sprinkling seeds of happiness all around town.

Anyone else checked out and liked Blake Acres' highlights. To me he looks every bit as good as Scharenberg and might be the best big bodied midfielder in the draft. He's got strength in the air, composure and neat skills. I'd say he's the reason why West Coast went back to 11 because they'll be happy to get either one of him or Sheed

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
