You would have said those exact things about Morton late 2007. Just sayin...

Hearing you, but Morton was, is, a stick. Acres is very well developed and initiates body contact. He likes it. (I mean that in a plutonic way, not that there's anything wrong with that... Just sayin')

Here are a few profiles of possible pick 9's from the Inside Footy draft guide....

Nathan Freeman Sandringham Dragons 16/6/95 H: 182cm W: 85kg

Like Josh Kelly, he took the combine by storm not only with his testing but with his personality he was up and about all week. His personality is a bit like the way he plays its up and about and sometimes a bit in your face, but in a good way, but I think hes exciting and we are going to be talking about him in the next few years at AFL level taking the game on and doing really well. Hes got that electric burst of speed but has also worked very hard on his endurance and has firmed right into a possible first round pick chance as he plays football for the current day AFL like a Luke Shuey or even a Daniel Kerr. Sandringham region manager Ryan OConnor

DRAFT RANGE: Top 10

Matthew Scharenberg Glenelg 18/9/95 H: 190cm W: 89kg

An elite player. It was unfortunate that he hurt his foot and didnt play a lot of football late in the year after playing a great Under 18s national carnival. Just finds the footy really well, read the game brilliantly playing as a key defender in the Under 18s and played in the back pocket in the seniors for us. He is elusive, doesnt get caught often and makes great decisions. His skill is improving and hes a long kick but needs to keep working on his short options and hitting those regularly. A great ability to know when to defend and when to attack and is just clever with what he does. Hes a great size for his position and he understands where hes at with his footy in terms of not getting ahead of himself. Keen in the gym and keen on the track hes going to be a beauty. After what he did at the carnival the feeling was he is a top five draft selection. Glenelg football manager Ken Applegarth

DRAFT RANGE: Top 10

Chr*st! Freeman is now 185cm! Doesn't anyone listen! He will be number 9. All the info flowing through from other clubs is that he WILL be available and we WILL pick him. Now i am calm, got the cup trifecta on a mystery bet and just sobering!

No idea who Ergo may be.... but if you look it up in a dictionary, you will find that "ergo" also means "therefore"... hence (also another word meaning therefore), the use of therefore in place of wherefore.

I am I said. Nice song but am still confused!

I think Ergo I am.

The original is always the best BBO

You never answerd my question in where is your proof that he is 185cm tall.

So again where is your proof..?

I like Billings. Looks to be all class, a real natural. Also like Sheed. Displays good leadership and looks tough. Freeman's ball drop worries me. Also a lack of poise. KK is a magnificent kick but we want pure mids. Salem looks good but there's not much X-factor.

Yes I have been favoring Lennon on here, but I think I have been persuaded by a few entries from here that there are too many downsides to him.

I must say Billings sounds ideal, and a perfect foil for Jones, Tyson, & Viney.

If we want to do our hypothetical pick 9 selections, let's do it right.

Do it like our selectors will on draft day, list the order of your selections from 1-8 (McDonald to North via F/S one pick prior to ours), and when pick 9 Melbourne is called you take the highest available player on your list.

I'll start:

1. Boyd

2. Billings

3. Kelly

4. Aish

5. Freeman

6. Sharenberg

7. Crouch

8. Bontempelli

Edit: Phone typos

Ah I have stood next to him for one, I am 186 and he was basically the same size. Also if you have listened to Kevin Sheehan he has said that he has grown 3cm since those stats were printed earlier in the year!

Freeman does look good, the fact that collingwood has swapped to get an earlier pick has me worried that he is the one they are after.

Are we going for Bontempelli to pay Collingwood back for taking Freeman or do we genuinely think that he is better suited to our needs compared with (say) Salem?

So in other words you guessed..

Sorry but even his latest article has him at 182cm and he even looks it.

God i hope we get Freeman please God let this dream offseason continue.

But if we do miss out on him, i would be happy with Sheed and Lennon.

Collingwood and Brisbane are our biggest threats.

If we do miss out i want Luke Dunstan.

Yeah he is a solid 200+ game player, but i think Brisbane will be intimidated by all the Vic kids wanting to come home and won't pick him up and probably pick up Scharenberg, and Collingwood seem keen on Bontempelli so i hope we can get him, he will be the next Dangerfield, he is the gem of this draft you heard it from me.

It isn't exclusively Vic Kids, Polec (SA) & Yeo (WA) also headed home. Not enough resources put into the retention of and support for recruits

As much as Collingwood want Bontempelli, they are said to want Freeman with their other pick. I don't trust them!

why would clubs be advertising who they want to pick. it's not in their interests

it is more in their interests to obfuscate and lie

i don't place any credence in these "rumours" except perhaps for the top 3

Clubs can obfuscate and lie all they like, but in the end you can only pick those who haven't been picked already.

I'm sure clubs would have a priority list, and on draft day just cross off those who are already gone.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
