A BIG THANK YOU

Demonland

Recommended Posts

A big thank you to all those who contributed to Demonland during the past season and also to everyone who posts here and even to those who visit but don't post.

We value your contributions and ongoing support - especially to Nasher who keeps us going on the technichal side, our moderators whose task is often thankless - especially so when we go through a season such as the last few we've experienced.

Particular thanks to our regular contributors, Whispering Jack, George on The Outer, The Oracle, JVM and KC from Casey. With the exception of KC they've often had to report on games and subjects that have been difficult to write about in 2013 but I reckon the coming ones will be more uplifting and exciting stories than those gone by in recent times.

As always, we're hoping for a bigger and better season in 2014 and are always looking out for new contributors who have something to say about the mighty Demons.

If you want to contribute an article feel free to contact me via PM.

Cheers & thanks again.

Sharing my grief and disbelief with fellow Demonlanders is all that kept me sane (albeit only slightly) during season 2013 .......... and now that the trade / FA / draft season is upon us, I can see that many around here suffer from a similar affliction. Thanks Demonland ...... BRILLIANT work!.

Amen to that Deeoldfart.

I swear that Demonland has kept me going the last three years without you all ( even the ones who don't like me ) I am confident I would have packed it in.

Staying the distance has been very hard the last three years.

Probably the toughest period in the last 49 years.

Thanks to the guys who keep Demonland alive.

I really appreciate it.

OD everyone loves you here.

It just when you go over 10,000 posts you must have an Avatar!

I have a few dozen suggestions for you in that area.

Thanks all it been a blast on the Demonland Forums.

Just keep in mind that we may not agree with each other on many things, we do on that topic that really counts. We all support the MFC!

Fairly confident that is not true TBF but I don't lie awake at night worrying about it.

Not sure about the last bit TBF especially the "all" bit

'Course we do.

Echoing the above sentiments.

At last the worst season I can remember in 60 years of supporting this club is over and the time to once again suckle at the breast of fantasy is upon us.

Time to enjoy 20 weeks without losing a game.

Thanks Demonland, for creating and maintaining a great forum for us Dees supporters. Thanks to all those who worked - both up front and behind the scenes.

Who here is not a MFC Supporter?

Me. I'm a Dawks supported and we just won the premiership.

Hey why is this forum called Demonland. It should be called Dawkland.

Oh did I mention that I am from an alternate reality that split from your one in 1996 when the once mighty Melbourne Demons merged with the Hawthorn Hawks. It's been smooth sailing for the Dawks since the merge.

How has it been for you guys?

Thanks to all the Owners, Mods and helpers of Dawkland for keeping this site going. I forgot how ugly the Melbourne jumper without the gold hawk was. So plain.

And I actually supported his team yesterday.

I will take it as a life lesson and make sure it never happens again.

OD you are right mate, there are very bad people here.

Is it possible to Ban this guy from this site otherwise I may just fly over to Melbourne so I can xxxxx him in the face. No one dishes my teams jumper unless their one of us.

I was being sarcastic and attempting some humour but it seems to have gone right over your head.

I'm a Demon born and bred so I'm just as miserable as everyone else here.

I'd like to thank the D'land crew for giving me the opportunity to share my witty and incisive comments on a variety of subjects. Although, I must say there are one or two swine (you know who you are) who do not appreciate my pearls.

No Way BBO that can not be true.

We all love you on the DL forums.

We must mark this club hard from now on.

We are the backbone of the supporters of this club.

I read Dland before i read the club website.

I am still pumped that PJ signed Mr. Roos

We members deserve the best from this old and proud club.

It will rise and we are the beginning of making sure it does.

Our list is not good enough. It can be in time.

Those who wish to leave can leave. We will build a list of September players if the members expect it. Average performances must be unacceptable.

What i am saying is take off the red and blue glasses. We must be hard on this club. Roos must do at least 3 years. If he walks that could be the end.

But he is not going to...We must demand that the whole club toughens up. To win the 13th we have to beat similar pressure that we witnessed yesterday.

120 minutes of sustained pressure.

Weekly.

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo
