Well to go with some young hard nuts as well it could be worth a shot.

The way I see it we've got potential in Garland, Frawley, Dawes, McDonald, Nath Jones, Trengove, Grimes, Mitch Clark etc that if we get the culture right now it might work.

The problem was Neitz, Yze and White weren't really great leaders and that spilt down to Green, Bruce and Robertson and then on to Sylvia, Moloney and Davey. The MFC generation of players lost years may well just carry on if all of a sudden people start saying Nath Jones, Garland, Grimes and Frawley don't really care and are soft and then it will be 2020 and everyone will be saying that Jack Viney is unproffessional and soft as well (not at the ball but in terms of effort).

There's too many list spaces to fill that bringing in 1 more experienced and reliable veteran isn't a bad idea.

Neitz not a leader? Gee, I can't agree with that at all. He was inspirational and led by example with courage personified.

In his peak yes, but he fizzled on as an average full forward and I don't mean that in a harsh way and captain.

The neitz and Daniher years were great but without legacy. There was no carry over to a Woewodin or a hard and ruthless Jeff White or Stephen Powell or Scotty Thompson or Brock McLean as captain. I suppose James McDonald was the first right man but he ended up captain too late and then was indisposed. Bruce and Green captain was yuck.

Anyway back on topic Chapman (or Cross or both) would be wonderful. Chappy is the better performed on field this year but you have to factor in he missed most of the year and he won't have the same impact if he never makes the field. Tough call by all, especially Geelong

I think he might get another year at the Cats given his 4 goals friday.

He would then also probably retire as a one club player which I think he and they would like.

The bodies on him and Josh Hunt are frightening, if you are coming the other way.

In my mind Chappy would only be recruited for what he can add to our list growth.... not so much what he can do to our ladder position... he'll effect our ladder position with what he passes on to our under 25's.

By contrast daisy would help the side improve ladder position, but wouldn't give us much re cultural reform. the legacy is not there. longterm gain minimal.

a Sewell type or a Bolton or similar, would bring much to those around them. remember we are not shooting for top 4,,, we need to teach those we Have, to become the top tier player we need.

If they seek to go youth as they appear they should.. they are looking collectively shaky. then they may not give Chappy another...

I'd love to have Paul Chapman at the Demons for a year or two. He would be great in implementing a better culture here at the MFC. He wouldn't cost much. And he could definitely be a playing coach too?

As much as he won't make a massive impact on the field he would help alot of the younger players at the Demons develop a no-nonsense, harder approach.

Whether or not he wants to come to the Demons and Paul Roos actually wants him is another story altogether...

Either way, Paul Chapman would be a great influence on our playing group.

I think I'm gonna have to disagree mate. Neitz was a fantastic captain and s brilliant forward. He won the Coleman one year. He wasn't always a forward either. He played down back for quite a while before going to full forward, perhaps that's why you think he wasn't a great forward. I remember games where Neitz kicked 7-8+ goals, I think he may have kicked 11 once. Any way, I think the culture issues are based around the clubs unfair dismissal of the senior players such as white, yze, Wheatley leonceli etc. many players that were club champions didn't get a final farewell game. I think this has strongly contributed to our players attitudes. Why would they wanto play with heart for a club that might just delist them toward the end of their career without a last game thank you. Not very appealing for younger players to stick around

I don't think Pods will go. They need him imo, especially while Hawkins is so sore & so reluctant to play sore. but they have many young mids they could lose if they don't open the opportunities to them.

I know Pods looked blunt the other night, & he looked slow, but the other areas are of more immediate urgency to transition their Mids. they don't want to majke the mistake of making too many changes in every department weakening all areas at once.

I suspect they'll retire 3 of the 4 older guys, starting with Hunt.

Heard him on SEN this afternoon and he doesn't seem all that confident he will get another contract, he wants to be a one club player but said he will look elsewhere if they don't want to re contract him.

Old , injury prone, not huge, not quick , best footy behind him. We could end up with Byrnes, Chapman and Pederson all doing a good job for us at Casey if we are not careful. Lets not jump at every bloke getting cut from a list just yet.

He's been a great player but don't we want an "A" Grader who's going to be with us for a while? Someone like Sloan.

He's in the same boat as Cross IMO and if they had high contribution levels left they will/ would have been kept by their clubs.

Whilst we may need experienced players, how about we raise our sights ,we don't want to become a retirement home.
