He is the sort we should look at imo, would cost nothing, and is still better than Magner and Couch

Yep bit surprise Weller was delisted but id defiantly look at him for sure! was a very promising jnr prospect,

Solidly built in and under midfielder who has played 32 games and is still only 21!

Played against Mav in Tassie when he was just 14 in the seniors

Can definitely play I also raised this point a while ago and now that he will cost us nothing I say we go for it

Tough midfielder and can play

Possible he just wanted to walk anyway and they didn't feel he had enough trade value to bother?

Mav was a highly talented junior, no doubt, but he's also a D-Head and thinks he's just a little better than the average bear. He doesn't do anything elite and he certainly isn't hard in the same category as Viney, Jones, McKenzie. He doesn't actually add anything we don't already have. I made the comment when he went to Gold Coast that he'd end up the same way as Tommy Hislop.

No thanks.

They could have at least kept him for a trade sweetener.

Our midfield needs all the help it can get - get rid of guys like Bail and Nicho (who's contributions are negative).

He will probably look like a star in our midfield (it would be hard to get a gig at Gold coast)

Id guess that there would be plenty looking at Weller! Patrick also will end up rookie listed imo.

But I heard a few weeks ago - that depending on how his knee is recovering, Horsley will be a potential target for the Demons and Blues.

Dont rate Wilkinson at all - but who knows!

Horsley definitely worth a look

Wilkinson a great athlete, but not much of a footballer.

Maybe something Roos would like to work with considering his previous projects with Canadians & Irishmen?

Sometimes when a player gets cut because of his attitude, he pulls his head in to get a second shot, sometimes they don't. He can play a bit, got 27 possessions yesterday, so he can find the ball, something most of our players can't.

If Roos is our next coach and he has a talk with him he may think he can get the best out of him, maybe the simple fact he's closer to home and can visit family more, could be a benefit to him; maybe he's just a d head, as you say and a lost cause.

One small point - his family all moved up to GC to live near him.

His brother Lachie Weller is in line for the 2014 draft, highly rated, based on the GC, not tassie where they originally come from.

Not being near family isn't the problem.

Maybe having them there reinforcing the superstar mindset is the problem?

Either way, I was surprised something went wrong.

Probably shouldn't have been, since it happens all the time, but I thought he looked to have all the tools to have a long career.

Whenever I've seen him play he's looked like he's got poor skills, doesn't win much ball and isn't a great defender. So I can't see him having a future off half back. Can he re-emerge as a midfielder? I'm not sure but I wouldn't be queuing up to see.

He's not that great. Big body tagger is his game.

Kyal Horsley looked nice last year. not sure what happened there.

It must be the lead in to trade time. Love the wheeling and dealing season.

Welcome back Nudge!

im surprised they delisted Weller.

He is actually pretty good and has abit of grunt about him

wouldnt hurt to get him

I must admit, I was keen to get him until I read above about him being a D-head. I don't want to bother with his type.

That's one person's opinion of him. Who cares; if he's good get him.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
