Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Don't be amazed by anything this time of year! Many unexpected trades will happen. Even some of our players are in for a surprise!

So it would be 2nd round plus a player for Adams. Who's the player?

If Richmond keep Dustin Martin, they have no room for Adams, especially at the money he's being offered elsewhere (like MFC).

I think he's being winkled out of there. & I wonder if his manager is also. not long for the afl?

I reckon the stars are aligning, buds yet to sign, Adams is up 'N' about, & whats that young Tyro from up at GWS doing?

I reckon he'll end up going where he's told.

Let's stir the pot a little bit. What would people say if it was Howe? Surely it has to be Howe. He's one of the only players that has any trade currency and even then it's minimal. Some absolute spuds have found homes though, post MFC over the last few seasons.

I keep hearing Howe's name come up in footy circles as the bait. Lots of chat at a local GF last weekend

I actually would not be to upset at losing Howe. He is to much of a highlight reel player. Has talent but very inconsistent - doesn't really have a set position either.

Having said that I could see him being a forward flank and drifting up the ground (taking marks on the wing).

We have plenty of tall forwards, no real mid sized or small forwards so it would be a lose there (maybe Kent/Barry - I more see them as future mids/wingmen).

If Sylvia and Howe left we would need to look at getting some medium-small forwards but that should be easier than getting A grade mids.

There seems to be a growing consensus that Howe is a one trick pony and limited in what he can offer. I don't agree. He's been in the system for only three years, usually has great skills, is young, has a great tank, and is unbelievably athletic. In a diabolical era with no support from senior players (because they don't exist) he's performed remarkably well. I accept he went missing in the second half of the year, but like Watts, he's been moved around a lot. I'm genuinely surprised at the willingness to move him on. He's played 56 games and only just coming into his best years.

We're not so full of riches that I'd trade a guy of his talent. A must keep for me.

We all love Howey but his worst is very poor. He becomes the invisible man and I'm sick of that trait in our players. We need more who demand the ball.

In saying that, I don't think his marketing value should be easily dismissed. He has carried the lion's share in motivating people to come through the gates to watch another Melbourne massacre. His set shots have also noticably improved. Haven't checked the stats but he certainly looks more comfortable.

Howe for Adams would be a no brainer when you consider the existing weaponry in the forward line, but I'd be sorry to see him go.

It seems that Adams has a heap of suitors, so unless we can pay him significantly more it's highly questionable that he'll end up at Melbourne. You'd put it in the highly doubtful category.

That said, you don't have to trade Howe to get him. There are plenty of ways to skin a cat and I very much doubt that not trading Howe would be problematic.

He's obviously not alone in the following respect, but he rarely chases. If his tank is such a weapon for him (something that is consistently sprouted on DL), where are his high tackle counts? You don't have to have a set position to be able to lay tackles.

I'm not saying this sort of flaw cannot be worked on, but he will be starved out of the forwardline. He'll have to play midfield or lift his workrate in the forwardline. I know trading Howe is not ideal, but we need tradables. Our midfield awaits. He is about the only one that may have some currency that we don't lose big with on the flip side. Given he's a must keep, I take it you'd prefer to keep him rather than wrangle a trade for say Adams or Swallow? I'd prefer to see Adams or Swallow running run in the red and blue.

Clubs land players all the time and manage to keep who they want. It is possible. It doesn't have to be either/or.

Having been to a third of preseason training I can vouch for his tank.

You'd trade him, I wouldn't, no biggie. It's how we see things. For the right deal I'd trade every player on the list accept Hogan. So I get your motives. Just don't see the need or the return we'd get that makes it necessary.

As Lucas said, the most important element of where any player will get traded to is the ability to get a deal done.

I don't buy the talk of a trade involving our 2nd round pick, as much as it would excite me.

I think Collingwood will get him.

They'll have a compo pick for Thomas at 11, which is about right.

Buckley also highly rates Adams, and coached him as a junior.

I'd pay him over to get him to the club.

I just hope Roos has the lure some of us seem to imagine.

yes reports are that Pies, Tigers and Bombers are in the running for Adams (Pies as favourites). Highly unlikely to choose MFC.

If Shaw stays it should help us, as mentioned before offer him big coin. Pies and tigers can't have to much money to play with.

It's moments like these a mid or end of round pick would have been handy, but we cannot dwell on that no longer. More than likely it will be the size of the offer to player and club GWS. Collingwood I'd imagine would be in the prime position - but that is dependent upon who else they have in mind for Shaw. One thing they will have is a little wiggle room in their cap. They already possess a terrific midfield, but they will need to replace Daisy (if he goes). The Bombers would have to trade and I'd imagine they would have to give up a reasonable player in need at GWS, because they don't have two picks to use. The Tigers, unless they can trade someone reasonable may struggle to get Adams. Which leaves us?

I'd say at present, given the delistings at the Pies and if Daisy does go to Blues, they could well be in the box seat after receiving a pick from the Blues.

Ben, I'd trade Howe because he's a lot of not that much. He can play forward but I'm not sure how much he will once all the forwards are fit. He can play mid, but his defensive side and awareness are, IMO, pretty poor. He is an outside mid at best, but not that quick and not that skillful. His handball is not creative. So I actually think he is a half-forward who can run but he isn't a midfielder really and certainly not a defender. So we are then left with considering his role, whether than could be done by anyone else and whether trading him would address a deficit.

IMO the deficit (genuine mids) is a greater need to address than keeping a player who is a one-role player, and not that important a role at that. Now maybe roos can develop him...I think that is a big 'maybe'.

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim
