Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Deeman, if you can get away with having a team of 23 players [and no objection from the ALF or the 17 other Clubs] then i am all for it. Having 5 interchange is a great idea and will certainly give us an edge!

Planning on not getting a priority pick

#2: trade to the Giants for Taylor adams and pick #10 ( not only is Taylor Adams an instant boost for our midfield but he is a great long term prospect, pick number 10 gives us more trade currency which i like )

#10: Trade to Adelaide Crows with Luke Tapscott ( SA boy ) for Rory Sloane, i feel they are desperate for a top 10 pick and the right deal will convince them, especially if Sloane likes the offer we table for him and makes him want to come home.

#20: I feel one of the more high profile draft hopefuls will slide through to this pick, maybe Crouch, Sheed or someone like that, going to guess it's Matt Crouch in this case and Mfc pull off what i strongly believe will be a huge steal.

#38: the obvious choice here is Zak Jones, i wish he would stop with these best on ground performances so he doesn't get taken before this, but at this point in time i feel he will be there at #38, if he isn't i'd look at Dayle Garlett or offering this pick to Essendon for Leyroy Jetta who i feel Paul Roos could get some really good football out of.

#56: Upgrade Mitch Clisby, i have been really impressed with mitch, think he has the capacity like dean terlich to play more and more of a role in the midfield if that's how we choose to develop him, either way he has shown enough to earn a place on the senior list imo.

Other Trades: i feel Mark Jamar to the Giants for Anthony Miles is a win for both parties, i believe both are around that 3rd round value and an experienced ruckman would appeal to them in the way a good young mid struggling to break into a strong midfield appeals to us.

Delisted Free Agents: Daniel Cross, Darren Jolly and Mav Wellar, i am really happy the club has had talks with both Cross and Jolly, at first i thought it was a bad decision and their best football was past them, but both, fitness permitting will be in our best 22, will have a huge impact off the field, add the locker room leadership we have been missing for years now and add quite abit to the cultural shift we are trying to implement.

Mav Wellar i feel has talent and because he costs nothing i don't mind rolling the dice, even if he doesn't come on he would be better than a 4th round draft pick or something like that.

Dearest AFL, given this club has a long road ahead of it, could you please donate picks 1 (priority), 3, 18, 36, 44, 52, 70? We would be forever grateful!

Haha yeah that was really just a random guess of someone who might be on the move,

would much rather Zak jones, even a mature age player from the VFL or something might be the go at that pick.

Your trading Pick 1 for Gaff & LeCras. That would be a priority pick, so that's all good.

Pick 3 for Swallow, our first round pick, I'm still with you.

Then you say 2nd round pick & pick 19 for Adams. Pick 19 would be our 2nd round pick, so where's the other 2nd round pick coming from? Unless you meant 2nd & 3rd round picks?

Think some of our targets in trade period should be:

Rory Sloane (long shot, inside/outside mid)

Ollie Wines (long shot, inside mid)

Taylor Adams (battle with Collingwood & Geelong for, inside/outside mid)

Sam Docherty (outside mid/HBF)

Shane Savage (small forward/midfield)

George Horlin-Smith (Inside mid)

Billie Smedts (outside mid/HBF)

Horlin-Smith, Smedts & Savage are all gettable IMO due to not being consistent best 22 in their current team and we could certainly lure them with the prospect of more game time and possibly more money. Adams & Docherty are both reportedly on the move so we should look out for both of them and Sloane we should hold some outside hope for if Adelaide really want Aish at Pick 2, the same could actually be said for Wines and Port.

Free Agent:

Daniel Cross from Bulldogs is our oly real target here I would have thought. Don't think we're in the Daisy race and it would probably be silly to pay massive overs as we'd likely need to do.

Draft:

To early to say really as who knows which draft picks we'll end up with after all the trading is done, but as far as some late picks go a couple of guys to watch out for from the VFL are Chris Michaliades (Zebras) who's a small crumbing forward, Jason Pongracic (Dolphins) hard at it midfielder who was unlucky not to be drafted out of the Stingrays last year and Khan Haretuku (Dolphins) KPF who can also play back and chop out in the ruck if need be. Has a lot of talent.

What about Dal Santo and Weller as free agents?

Maybe Roosy has been keeping it quiet with Daisy.

Rory Sloane seems gettable maybe he wants to come home? but he did win their b&f so maybe they won't take the trade i honestly don't know how he beat Danger.

I don't think Ollie Wines will leave in his second year (i wanted him in the draft anyway).

Taylor Adams i think we have got him in the bag, where would Geelong and Collingwood fit him anyway?.

Docherty i would like suggesting the history that Roosy has with running half backs but we have Grimes and Terlich so i don't know if Roos will want him.

Savage we may get, he struggles to find his way into the squad and after his 5 goals in the VFL on the weekend he could be the small crumbing forward we are looking for.

We won't get Horlin-Smith and Smedts, Selwood said Horlin-Smith will be the next captain of the club and Geelong have compared Smedts to Gary Ablett.

My ideal trade/draft period includes us obtaining a priority pick (#1), which of course is ideal.

Firstly I would like to say I am generally against the thought of trading first round picks, although this year is an exception as we need to bolster our midfield to match it with the rest of the list, particularily the defenders and forwards (Frawley, Garland, Clark, Dawes, Watts, Howe, then Jones and potentially Sylvia).

Obviously this is wishful thinking but I would love to see it eventuate.

Pick 1 (Tom Boyd) is used in a three way trade between us, West Coast, and Brisbane.

We the MFC lose pick 1 (Boyd), and exchange our 2nd round pick with WCE 2nd round pick and gain Tom Rockliff and Scott Selwood.

Brisbane loses Victorian Tom Rockliff (possibly disgruntled) and pick 8 to gain pick 1 (Tom Boyd to replace an aging Brown).

West Coast loses the Victorian Scott Selwood and gains Brisbane's pick 8, and upgrade their 2nd round with pick to our second 2nd round pick in an exchange.

Alternatively WCE could obtain Boyd and give their pick 7 to Brisbane, we would then exchange later picks with Brisbane.

Pick 3 traded or drafted:

Is traded to either GC Suns for David Swallow or Richmond for Dustin Martin, some form of deal sweetener from our end will probably have to be thrown in if its pick 3 rendering the much hyped pick 2 James Aish unavailable. If the trade (being pick 3 instead of 2) is not possible use it to draft Dom Sheed.

Round 2: Pick #... (20ish) previously downgraded in an exchanged with the WCE for their 2nd round pick.

Draft Zac Jones.

.... Todd Viney works his magic on the late picks in the draft (more Kent types please).

Late ND pick or pre-season draft: Is used on Liam Jurrah, with the appropriate support network and structures set up at the club to aid his transition back into the AFL.

Overall the club would significantly bolster its midfield with the inclusions of Rockliff, S.Selwood, and one of D.Swallow, Martin, or Sheed. The additions of Liam Jurrah and Jesse Hogan will make our forward line incredibly exciting (again). Further obtaining the fresh reliable hard at it youngster Zac Jones would be a real plus - his inclusion would also likely secure his brother Nathan’s future as a one club player. As for the later picks in the draft, in Todd Viney we trust… please bring us another Dean Kent like player.

If all this is possible we would be seeing the club turn things around much quicker than many think.

I actually think you have some good ideas. I like the Tapscott trade, that would be enough to entice Adelaide for sure. The L. Jetta one is certainly from left field... I like your thinking.. but I personally would be more include to offer that pick for a David Myers? Although I definitely would love Zac Jones on our list next year... I feel we may have to pull the trigger at 20 to get him though.

This was stated on the AFL website in regards to our trade whispers :Other clubs will be eyeing off the No.2 draft pick the Demons have put on the table. Trying to find a package that might convince the Demons to hand it over will be the difficult part. A couple of reasonable midfielders under 24 might do the trick but as everyone knows, they don't just grow on trees.(Peter Ryan)

So, I feel what Peter thinks is that we wont be looking for a straight swap for a midfielder.. we would want 2 reasonable mids if we were to trade the pick.

That's very Paul Roos in my opinion, get better performances out of a couple of solid mids

i'm still very much for offering it to GWS for Adams and pick 10

i am certain that's as good a trade offer as they will get for him, and we could offer Adams a good long term contract and the ability to play under Roos

Roos has history finding frustrated talent hiding on good teams lists (I.e. Kennedy), and trading it into the Swans for later picks.

Makes me think he may not target the obvious (Martin, Adams) that many clubs will be fighting over, but focus on talented fringe mids unable to break into Quality midfields next year (but would easily improve ours)...

You honestly think that Adeliade will give up their BnF winner and a top 10 Brownlow voter for pick 10 and a player who averages 7-10 games a year at around 12 possesions...please never apply for a job in our recruitment department!

Pick 2 to Brisbane for Docherty and pick 7.

Pick 7 to Western Sydney for Taylor Adams.

Two midfielders for the price of one? Riding the go-home factor for all it's worth. Pick 7 for Adams is quite ambitious but if he decides he wants to leave, GWS will take the best offer which might just be ours.

Or, it might work the other way around - Western Sydney acquire Docherty at whatever suitable price, and on-trade Docherty with Taylor Adams to us, for pick 2.

Our midfield is in such a dire state that I hope he does both. Trade out pick 2 for Swallow or an equivalent and then find a B grade mid (or two) with our second or third rounder/s who emerge Kennedy style as genuine A graders.

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter.
