Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Just for the sake of it in a somewhat quiet week lets see where this thread takes us.

First question though why when the guys are benching does a player hold a mini cricket bat thing across their chest? Is that the closest we can do to peptides?

Hopefully Watts was off screen in that photo of Mitch lining up the right hook

I've heard from a good source that Mitch is absoloute boss in the ring. Ruthless against any opposition. Only Flash and Col can put up a fight.

Not of any seriousness but its the same thing as see match day.

I'm sure someone's approach in the ring has a very strong correlation with their approach on matchday.

I definitely wouldn't want to get in there with Clark anyway.

Imagine Jack Viney. Even if you hit him in the head 5 times he'd keep coming back at you. Clark would be scary because if he boxes like he moves on the footy field then he's fast but he also has long reach.

I imagine the little cricket bat piece of timber is to control how far down the players bring the barbell - so they don't drop it down onto their chest and cause damage.

Anyone see the video of Flash with the gloves on that was floating around last week?

He was a blur. Great to watch.

They are used as guides. The correct form for bench press is to NOT have the bar reach your chest as it will only increase your chance of muscle strain to the pectoral and ligament damage to your superior GHL.

Along with the fact that you also reach your best loading at around 95-100 degrees from full extension. Going any further down becomes pointless as your latissimus dorsi is now beginning to help out and you also have that added strain to the GHL.

If anyone remembers it was James Frawley of all people who tore a pectoral muscle a year or 2 ago in a gym sesh.

Just so a non-gym person like me understands, are you saying that James Frawley's injury was caused by inappropriate use of gym equipment?

Is anyone else a little surprised by how much stronger Watts looks. I've noticed his body shape improving over the course of the season, and in some of those photo's he's finally starting to look like his matured physically. Now he just needs to translate that into consistently having a greater physical presence on game day.

the way he plays it wouldn't matter if he was built like Tarzan or Jane, never makes contact with anybody

He doesn't look stronger.. He just looks more shredded, that's just the combination of cardio and the weights/exercises he'd be doing that at the gym (no doubt he'd be doing high reps low weight)

Had been told a boxing coach where Jack worked out as a kid rated him the toughest person (not the best boxer) he ever trained and this guy trained some good boxers and premiership players.

Watts now has the body to play the position in which he was recruited for.. Yet 3 quarters of our supporters want us to move him on!

Watts is going to be a star.

I can't remember the full details of his injury, but I do remember it was during the pre-season and it did definitely happen in the gym whilst doing chest weight exercises.

It is a very common poor form practice that I see more than 50% of the kids at my gym getting wrong.

Isnt that poor form on the bench press? Hands need to be further out so as to actually work the chest :-/

Not true.

Both Tappy and Chippa's grip is spot on. Fists should always remain parallel with your shoulders when at full extension. 5-10 degrees outwards and you stress out your middle and inferior GHL ligaments in the shoulder. It is safer to have your grip 5-10 degree inwards if anything. No major ligament in the shoulder comes under any stress. You'll just feel discomfort.

Chest fly's are done when you want to work out your pectoralis minor. Bench is strictly for your pectoralis major and works best when the entire load is strictly on your pectoral and the shoulder is involved as least as possible.

His chest and legs are still too small to play as a crashing packs type forward.

But then agian look at Jeremy Cameron.

Gee C&B love the way typinig on the keyboard shows off your guns ......haha.....everybody is a tough guy behind a keyboard...

here it is again.. what in the name of god does my personal strength (or lack of it) have to do with ANYTHING? Are you suggesting it is fine to bag him as long as you are a tough guy yourself?? That doesn't make ANY SENSE. I wasn't lucky enough to be born with the physical gifts to get me to the AFL. 99.5% of us weren't. BUT WE AREN'T TALKING ABOUT ME, ARE WE? We are talking about Jack Watts, taken at number 1, paid hundreds of grand, spent years with elite coaches and facilities supporting him, defended by his supporters and colleagues for years and he does NOT give his all for the jumper. Daniel Nicholson can't kick - or am I not allowed to mention that unless I am some sort of laserfoot myself. Get a clue

Plus just because you suddenly gain size, does not always mean you know how to play with it.

I was extremely lean in my junior days of football and right up till I was about 25. In about a year I went from 82kg to 104kg and it almost took me 2 years to learn how to use it.

He needs to shrug that light frame mentality and start throwing his weight around.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
