Hatred for Damian Barrett: Rising

I am sure that comment would be offensive to their parents whatever we think of them.. Let's not get too nasty..

I'm not particularly interested if hypothetically Mr and Mrs Watts/Scully would be offended by the comment

in fact it is hard to imagine something I could care less about

your priorities are obviously different

The infuriating thing about Barrett is that he comes across like the type of dweeb that actually believes that he knows better than everyone else, and that his opinions and articles are the most important news ever reported on in history.

Hate the man with a passion. Balding, spec wearing f@$k wit IMO

My priorities are more decent.. I believe.. Any parent would be offended if someone made a comment like you did about their children.. If you can't see that then our PRINCIPLES at least are very different.. Let's leave it at that..

I agree with your question and will be interested in the answer from our WA Demonlander.. A stupid discriminatory comment I feel.. I do not like Barrett, but such a general comment about someone's looks is unintelligent... Hate is also a word which should be used with some care..

Nothing wrong with being balding and spec wearing, however when coupled with being a smug f@$k (refer to first paragraph) it only serves to accentuate any [censored] like tendencies. The 'trendy' thick rims on a middle aged dweeb again add to the high [censored] rating IMO,

Apologies if these words offend any fellow 'landers.

The article is flawed and illogical in that he states "But the facts are all that is required when analysing Melbourne's plight, and the facts prove that this club has no right to more draft bonuses." He then proceeds to explain how we didn't use the priority pick well last time as a fact to why we don't deserve a PP.

The AFL took away the automatic entitlement to a PP but have left a opening for clubs that are struggling to gain assistance via the Draft at the their discretion.

Whether or not the MFC utilised the PP in previous years is irrelevant to whether they gain a concession via the AFL discretion in the current season. Yes we are terrible but that's reason why we need assistance. If we were strong then sure we would not deserve any assistance. But the point of assistance via the draft is to ensure that teams that are struggling get help to strengthen their club and ultimately strengthen the brand (AFL).

Apparently we have been well "compensated" according to Damien. The use of the word compensation is being used to make the reader believe that we got payment for a loss when the PP we received was an entitlement of a flawed system. If you were a bottom team for a few seasons and someone said hey would you like some assistance that you are entitled under our rules would you turn down the help? Is it ruthless to not get every concession or entitlement that you can get for your club?

Do we deserve a concession from the AFL? Who knows its all very subjective. The question should be Do We Need a Draft concession? and then let the AFL make an objective decision around how to help.

The point of the PP is that clubs which are struggling for a period of time can be given assistance in the draft by the AFL. It doesn't matter how long a club has been struggling or how many PP have been given previously, if the club has not improved then they should keep getting a PP until they do.

The fact is we are worse than ever and definitely deserve a PP based on the massive difference in the quality of our side compared to the rest of the competition.

That's all. Nothing else should come into it.

The AFL might be careful though as this is the first one awarded under the new rules so it basically establishes a precedent. But you could argue it establishes a good precedent as in future years if a club requests a PP then the AFL can say are you a basket case like the Dees were? No? Ok. If not, then bugger off

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
