This has got a way to run. He will end up somewhere.

I'd not write us out totally yet...

I mean would we take him with pick 2 in the PSD if available (i.e. for nothing)???

Consuiering about 5 other clubs have had a look and walked i don't think it would be a good idea.

I was all for him coming cheap, but even the Aints have gone cold!!!

This kid is not well.....upstairs.

Little Dusty will end up getting $100 a game if the Tigers can be bothered to open the door to him...

This is truly quite funny...he was about 5 minutes from signing a huge deal...and he pulled it out...

Little Dusty is a bit dim.

I think the game is giving him a free lesson. trying to correct his deportment. a sort of finishing school of hard No's.

Ralph Carr appears to be incompetent.

Whilst I don't really sympathise with Martin, who's had that Richmond deal in front of him for a long time, and who has gotten himself into a lot of the trouble that is hurting his career move prospects, Carr's apparently ineptitude is destroying his value by the second.

So where's he going to play next year if its not Richmond?

i don't know, but I don't think the Tiges want him back,,, just compensation for him in some form... (Tyson)?

I suspect he'll be at the Hawks, if we get Adams?

..... on the other hand, if it all gets thrown up in the air, we will land with someone I'm sure... as I said weeks back in the Boyd Pick 1 thread, the Hawks need Mids to replace their aging midfield. (obvious)

so if the hawks jump into Adams instead, this could throw my ideas. But I think, 'like for like' is most likely for the Hawks,,, after the young fella is suitably head shrunk. (hence martin to Hawks).... the Hawks knowhow, are experienced enough to handle Martins issues.

& the Hawks have the strong culture to keep his head screwed down..... We do not.

The only thing missing from the GWS anouncement was '....because he's a ****head'. But I guess what is understood need not be discussed.

Is Knucklehead eligible for the rookie draft? Might be his only chance of playing senior football again.

I am fairly confident from family and friends who live up his way that the family are not rocket scientists!

Martin should stay at the Tiges. Reading between the lines he needs discipline and structure in his life outside of football. To Richmond's credit they have gone above and beyond in trying to provide him with that and his family and management need to recognise that. Perhaps the queue of clubs lining up to knock him back may convince them of that.

The saga will continue.

But as WYL said he is a little dim. DUMB would be more appropriate.

All the clubs have definitely rated him Toxic-----Handle with Care.

I don't care about Dustin Martins life story!! All i know is.... we would be mad! If we passed on him!! the best kid from the 09 draft.... This kid has the Barrassi/Matthews type of champion about him.... Him and Cotchin have turned Richmond into a contender!! If we won't to win games, then we should get players like him....

I cant believe that we could live through a year like we have, and then reject a player of Martins quality...jeez.. Are we so far away from a win... That we can't see true match winners when we see them? Or is it just the conservative blazer crap?

Ugh. It beggars belief. Even with comedy act that's been in the past week some still don't get it.

Caro has summed it up well this morning. Richmond are stuck with him. No club wants to touch him. His GWS meeting was a complete debacle. No wonder GWS switched off immediately.

And as she has said before its crystal clear who and what the problem.

Martins manager should have his AFL accreditation looked at for his appalling orchestration of this mess.

Posted

I don't believe Caro has covered herself in glory over this at all. She slammed Martin both on television and in print, and trashed his reputation severely, even highlighting some transgressions that had hitherto only been rumoured (without questioning why Richmond had tolerated them). She painted Martin as the quintessential dickhead who no right thinking club should touch with a ten foot pole. She was full of praise about Richmond's tactic of distancing itself from him and now, she does a 360 and praises the Tigers for happily wanting him back (albeit at their own price).

She pillories every other club in similar situations and hasn't held back on Dane Swan or Sam Fisher. Only the Toigs deserve praise for bringing such a character back into the fold. I strongly suspect that if this was a story about Swan or even Buddy it might be told very differently.

I wasn't allowed to use the real word for a female dog. (I think the moderators censorship button needs censoring)

I have described her in the past, I believe accurately, as "both having one and being one".

Well the way his brain-surgeon manager has handled this these negotiations even makes me feel sorry for Martin. Off-the-field he doesn't seem to be able to make life decisions very well on his own and his manager has now exacerbated his position. Surely Richmond cannot change their stand and entice him back for little cash and most Richmond supporters have also tired of him. Despite opposing martin on the basis of being a bad cultural fit into our Club I now think we would be in a strong position to get him for no loss of draft picks if we offered him a reasonable sum and committed to take him in the pre-season draft with our pick No. 2. As GWS have stated so publicly that they do not want him in Sydney this could be a guaranteed outcome. There is no question that he would solve some of pour midfield problems and help us make an impact as early as next year.

From the sound of it he needs to board with Mr and Mrs Roos

Good idea however not sure that Mrs Roos may agree. Whatever it takes!.

If anyone has trashed the reputation of Martin its been...wait for it...... Dustin Martin and his manager.

She has painted Martin for what he is.

FWIW, RIchmond had done the right thing by the wayward Martin but drew a line in the sand. They have been proven right in their approach. They do have a problem and that is the future management.

Get over it.

Nothing to get over RR. As much as CW may be your heroine, the criticism is that she is inconsistent in trashing people's reputations, not whether the person deserves to be trashed, and she changes her position to fit in with where her club is at. The behaviour of a partisan, not a journalist.

Exactly Sue. We know what Martin is like as a character (Wilson spelt it out very well earlier in the week) but that's not the point I was making at all.

It appears now that apart from some mild interest from coach less Brisbane, at this stage there's only one club that wants Martin and that happens to be Richmond. Wilson's inconsistency is that having excoriated Collingwood and St. Kilda for tolerating their bad boys and then painted Martin as the worst of the worst in her articles earlier in the week, she has hardly a bad word to say about the Richmond Football Club. If she were a true critic and had some integrity she would be straight with Hardwick and the Tigers. A bogan is a bogan no matter what club he plays for and for the good of that club he needs to be cut adrift.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
