At the airport at the moment waiting to head back, all players are here and looking pretty down. As you would, after today. Spoke to Aaron again (head development coach, actually got a ride with him in a taxi to the ground this morning from the airport).

Asked him what Craigy said, but he couldn't say much. Thing was, we were up there in all key areas such as contested ball etc, but they scored 8 goals from turnovers which was the real killer.

I am sick of hearing they look down. How about showing it on the ground where it actually matters. Craig is kidding himself if he thought our effort was there. They were outrun by a bunch of kids whilst they jogged the lines of the square. Our effort and execution is the worst I have seen of any side over a season in my 38 years of watching football.

If you'd like to know anything about the 45min discussion we had in the cab this morning, don't hesitate to ask.

As I've said before, the goals from turnover stat is the reason we lose every week. Seriously, every single margin is almost exactly equal to the amount by which we lose the gft stat.

Look at it this way we have had 7, yes that's SEVEN crap years.

This is the last yr we will be crap so lets just sink to new lows during our last crap year cause next season it's a new beginning.

I know we have said this before but this time it's a new board, Pres, EXPERIENCED Coach and HOFD.

These are outsiders coming in with no old boys or jobs for mates.

As hard as today and this season is to swallow lets get it out of the way in our LAST crap season.

Is this an echo I hear?

we may be up in many of the so called bloody "key areas" probaly lead some stats somewhere.

But heres the thing..We CANT PLAY FOOTY FOR SHLT !!!

where I come from thats the only key area...and only stat is the scoreboard

this clubs a bloody joke honestly..., more excuses than a ( insert party of choice ) convention

Stats, gameplans, KPI's, none of it means anything right now, the players have 0 heart, 0 confidence and 0 pride, fix those and we might start to improve.

This group is beyond anyone's saving. Trengove cant run, Sylvia wont run, Grimes cant kick, Howe takes the occasional screamer that hides his lack of work ethic. These are players that should be seriously influencing games but don't have the ethic, attitude, talent or a combination of the three to make a dent. Apologies to Spencer, Jones x 2, Clisby and Viney but the rest were an embarrassment to the jumper.

This is spot on.

We are far too lenient on Grimes. He is a C-grade footballer at best. Without being melodramatic at all, his kicking is probably the worst of anyone on our list. We make fun of Dunn, Nicholson, McDonald for their kicking, but they are adding value in other areas. It's sad, but right now I query whether he's adding any value to the side. At all.

Howe's worse. 8 disposals today. That is pathetic. He is lazy, he doesn't care about doing team things, he bobs up for a few flashy runs/kicks/marks but generally gives us nothing for most of the game.

Trengove at least tackles. But otherwise he continually looks like he's running on a treadmill. He can't get to enough contests, he can't apply defensive pressure because he can't run.

Sylvia's got mostly the same issues as Howe. Plenty of talent, nowhere near enough effort.

Davey's another 'leader' who is giving us squat.

It's killing us.

Thats a bit harsh, Just wait till poor Col Sylvia gets a full pre-season. He'll be a gun one day that boy.

We now have a worse % than GWS and are only 1 game ahead.

We still may get the wooden spoon.

Sigh,.,,,

Nathan Jones And Viney can hold their heads high.

The rest of the team need to pull up their shorts cause they just got dacked by the worst team in the comp.

3 word analysis for the players that turned up today:

Nathan Jones: should be captain

Jack Viney: absolute [censored] champion

Lucky they had return tickets because they should be made to hitch hike home

Off topic (sorry) but how bloody good is Nathan Fyfe. He is brilliant in close and out. Imagine sticking him in a Melbourne side.

Yep, then we'd only be 6 players shy of a competent midfield.

I reckon he's worth 2. So another 5

Was at the game. We just don't work hard enough, they were too fast on the outside and our disposal across the team is crap.

Craig got out coached. Who picked 3 talls when they are all light runners at GWS?

Garland was limping around all game should not have been out there.

It was just awful.

How were we ever going to win this one? It reminded me of Neelds first game for us against Brisbane where there was no way we could win just kicking it high up along thenboundary line. I watched today's game on TV and all we did in the firt half was pick the ball up and kick it long into the forward line. No system, no thinking, no skill, no running. I mean where is the game plan. We could never win this one with Craig's plan. I am thinking Neil Craig may be as much of the problem as Neeld ever was. The two of them together were probably toxic.

I'm surprised at the surprise.

There's a reason the Giants were heavily backed in - we really ain't no good.

And boy oh boy it would seem we proved it.

Unlike others saying they won't sign up as members next year etc I say hang in there, don't stop believing, yada yada yada.

We precious few are all this club has. God knows the people at the coal face would seem to care little, judging by their efforts.

This is exactly what I've been saying, TU. Completely agree. Grimes is lucky if he's a C grader and I reckon we should be trading Howe, while he still has perceived value.

Watts , Howe and Sylvia are just front running show ponies.

Captains Trengove and Grimes are just ordinary footballers

Maybe what you are saying is right but I would not rush to offload them before seeing how they perform under a new coach [and with a full pre-season in the case of Grimes and Trengove]. If we offload all our list, [especially the above players who have the potential but are not playing to it], we will actually go backwards even faster, despite somehow bringing in a few midfielders to back Jones.

Its not the coaches is it? Some players dont care. Its time the players took some responsibilty. Jones has no trouble trying every single week. Why cant the rest of them ?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
