I don't think other clubs would try to screw us over at the risk of ending up with a player that they don't want.

Isn't Sheedy back at EssUndone?

Just proves how hard it is to get drafted to the AFL, even if you are a father and son prospect if you're not good enough you won't make the cut.

The club will treat him like he is one of our own, he can development without the worry of being delisted from the rookie list, might take two season at Casey before he makes it to the rookie list or main list, players like mat stoke where over looked in three drafts

No guarantees Jake will line up at Casey. His first priority will be his horticultural course he is now looking forward to starting.

Interesting. Maybe, despite being from a footy family and in draft calculations for a long time, he doesn't Lovett as much as he loves horticulture.

Or maybe he's no good at footy and wants to follow in his father's footsteps of raising spuds.

Very good! Jake will be playing footy in 2016, just not necessarily at Casey.

Jake has settled on Casey Scorps for 2015.

However, he and his parents were given a tour of the Holden Center recently and the filth have shown some interest in taking him as a rookie.

I suspect that he will receive considered parental guidance ensuring that he disassociates himself from the filth (however on the other hand I would have no objection if we looked at Weideman)!

I wish him the best the regardless of who he plays for. Personally, If I were him, I would put in the hard yards down at Casey. But I won't begrudge the young kid if he grabs the opportunity elsewhere. Either way he'll have to put in a lot of hard yards. The satisfaction of making our list would be greater though IMO.

This really sticks in my throat!

Ah, see your reasoning...

The club said they wouldn't.

I'd say that's his reasoning.

Exactly.. But apparently that's still not enough..

Has an AFL Club ever said something and done the complete opposite?

Example, "we support the coach 100% and he will see out his contract", then sacked the next day, if not that afternoon.

Far out.. Todd Viney has already mentioned how hard it was for him to go to the Lovett household and break the news that they will NOT select him in this draft period.

Obviously not good enough to be in our sights. If not picked up in the rookie draft then he'll play at Casey in 2016.

Has a club ever come out and said that they will NOT select a father/son candidate, even through the Rookie Draft and then selected said player anyway?

Agree. I heard him say it on thursday night. I just said I "wonder" if it could happen, in other words, was it a ruse.

FWIW, I was at an MFC AGM many years back when Billy Snedden the President was asked from the floor, " would we be clearing Phil Carman"? He answered absolutely not. He will play with us next year.

The Headline on the back page of the Sun the next morning, revealed that Carman had been cleared the day before by the Dees.

Yes I know, Billy was a Politician.

Wasn't it Wayne Read who made that statement about Fabulous Phil?

Possibly, my memory is not as good as it once was. BTW, who are you?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
