Wonder if he will still be taken as a rookie, despite what we are being told?

If not, can he be taken father son next year?

Posted

I have zero time for the romance of father/son purely because the father was a gun.

I have a lot of time for the romance of father/son if the son shows enough promise to be worthy of a draft pick.

there's only one spot left red, now michie has grabbed one

Actually, if someone takes Michie before us, his spot is still there. He could be taken as a late draft pick or an early rookie pick by another club. Unlikely but possible.

Also if that left one spot, Lovett would only take one spot. Unless they have a particular player in mind, Lovett is still a chance.

It doesn't worry me, as I trust these guys to get it right, in the main.

if hes not on anyones list I couldnt see why not.

I didn't like that he said that he expected to be drafted as a rookie at least because of his relationship to the club. Shouldn't be taking anything for granted

Bit harsh.

"I wasn't expecting much from Melbourne but me and my family were thinking maybe a rookie spot.

"I'd been talking to Melbourne for the past three to four years and we'd been catching up regularly.

"We just thought a rookie spot would be almost guaranteed this year."

Kids had his hopes up right until the end and bet the club did too.

Maybe he'll come on a little later like his old man did.

The kid needs an injury free run and a year at Casey. He has the potential

Agree.

If not picked up by an AFL club It might indeed be prudent to get him on Caseys list for a year. He can then be evaluated at our discretion by our metrics

F/S him next year if warranted.

Not sure why, but i was under the impression that you only had one shot at f/s, and after that your only option was going through the drafts, with every club having the option to take you?

Not great news for the young fella but in a lot of ways it's good that he's angry but still willing to sign on at Casey if he isn't drafted.

That's a lot of progress for us as a club.

MFC - "Jake, we know you are the son of a gun, but in all honesty you need to show us more"

Jake - "Oh don't worry, I will make you regret not picking me up"

MFC - "GOOD! That's what we want! Maybe in the past you would've walked onto our list and been gifted a game, but we are a different club now Jake"

Jake - "I respect that and will push to be part of the future success of this club... Whatever it takes!"

THAT IS HOW I HOPE THE CONVERSATION WENT!!!!

I'd also like to know the answer to your second question. I assume that we would have given up our rights to him by passing on him this year, but am not positive.

Either way, it's unlikely that clubs will be lining up for him in 2016 if he can't even get a rookie spot this year.

Posted (edited)

yes the MFC gets 'first rights' should he not get picked up this draft year, and if he elects to nominate for f/s bidding next year.

A good spin

Not sure about the "whatever it takes" bit lol but get the gist :)

We're showing greater maturity now as a club in how we go about all this. Bodes well.

I feel drained that the EFC and Hird went and took Stynes' favourite motto in his time in charge at Melbournefc and went and trashed it for eternity.

It's hard to look at any aspect of the EFC and not feel drained, maybe that explains all the vitamin injections.

If he has a mullett, gives the don't argue, then delivers perfectly off hbf to a running Stretch who delivers perfectly to Viney who Bombs it long to Smith who takes a hovver over in the square I will have a flashback.

I can't do the late 80s again.

Maybe we haven't nominated him because we know there isn't mutch interest in him. If we had have nominated him, this allows another club to bid and force us to overpay. If the price is right he still may end up at the dees.

I don't think other clubs would try to screw us over at the risk of ending up with a player that they don't want.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
