Yep, Brett was slow like Sam Mitchell is slow. One of the best readers and users of the ball I've ever season. The people that matter have a very high opinion of Jake's future.

I was wondering if he was as slow as Freddy twinkle-toes Rockliff,,, could it be another tough inunder comes our way finally.

Get him playing at Casey next year, preseason with us. He is big enough to play senior footy.

I like the idea of a development zones which AFL clubs would be responsible for, to teach the kids.

And at the end of the day, when the kids turn about 17,,, I'd like to see each club allowed to take Two kids from their zones Per Year as scholarship kids, to be tutored while they are still at school, & they could be run thru the VFL system when they are able to cope with this.

great for the regional zones & AFL development & it keeps more kids in their home states.

works well if you end up with a good zone, e.g. Hawthorn. It took them from being mediocre to a powerhouse, all on the back of getting allocated a strong zone. MFC on the other hand...

If he can kick a footy get him.

For and against.

For - if he has a really good season at Casey then he is cherry ripe for the following AFL season when we draft him to come in and make an impact

Against - whilst ripping it up at TAC level will elevate your draft ranking - it may not to the same extent as Lovett ripping it up at VFL level. Could mean we have to play a lot more for him in the F/S bidding. There is a case for what Spirit of Norm Smith said " shhh - send him to the outback for 2015".

I think I prefer the positive spin - give him experience at VFL level next may give him a jump for 2016 and if we have to pay more in terms of a pick - so be it.

( note- it didn't really affect the pick we had to give up for Viney but he didn't rip it up at VFL level)

Someone mentioned Jake Lovett in the Lyon thread, so I thought id bump this up as he will be in this years draft as a potential Father Son for the MFC

Here is a recent write up on him from a guy at Bigfooty

http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/power-rankings-for-the-2015-draft.1085573/

Jake Lovett (VicC -Mid -Mel F/S)
Weight: 80 kg
Height: 181 cm
D.O.B: 9/1/97
Style: Stephen Coniglio

Smooth moving midfielder should get Dees fans excited. This Dandenong Stingay averaged 18 disposals and 2.6 handball receives a game. The son of Brett Lovett should play a few games for Vic Country as a utility since there Vic Country lineup is stacked. Classy midfielder who could find himself leading the Stingray midfield for 2015. If he could add another element to his game then I could see him going in the 3rd round.

His stats from last season for Dandenong - http://www.foxsportspulse.com/team_info.cgi?action=PSTATS&pID=197829402&client=1-3020-111722-294694-20320265

Sounds like the type of player that could take a big leap forward in his final TAC cup season.

He has done some sessions down at MFC this preseason. He has a man's body already. Will spend the year the majority of the year at Dandy Stingrays rather than at his his school Peninsula Grammar. His sister is a highly rated rugby player. (Useless random fact.)

Has a weak 3km time trial, has been told to improve it or won't be looked at.been assessed, Has an 8 month program set to fix it

Wont be looked at by the dees or....?

He did the skills session with the side prior to the intra-club on Thursday. So the club is watching, but there is a lot of water to go under the bridge yet....

Did you happen to notice what his skills were like George?

That's from the dees. He can play, aggressive and good skills, but been told by the dees he has to fix a problem with his tank.

that's good thinking

we should spread more rumours around....keep his price down

I'm glad that is what he needs to work on - fitness is easier to fix than dodgy skills or an inability to find the footy.

Colin Sylvia says hello; but I actually agree with you that it is easier to fix, but to be a modern footballer to play the modern game you need fitness.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
