The Casey Scorpions return will return to action after a week's rest in the first weekend of the split round facing a real danger game against Werribee who have had the "wood" over them in recent seasons. They play the Tigers (who have knocked them out of the past two finals series at the semi final stage) on Sunday at Avalon Airport Oval which hasn't particularly been a happy hunting ground for the Scorps.

SUNDAY JULY 14

Werribee vs Casey Scorpions at Avalon Airport Oval, Werribee 2pm (Vision Australia Radio, Aussie Digital)

(Development League match at 11am)

Making things interesting is the fact that Werribee will be saddling up in the first semi final of the Foxtel Cup against WAFL side East Fremantle at Patersons Stadium tomorrow night in a game that will be telecast live on Fox Footy from 8.30pm. With a five day break between that game and Sunday and a long trip west and back, the Tigers will be hard pressed to stop Casey's current winning streak despite their home ground advantage.

On another note, bad news for former Geelong VFL player Casey Tutungi who also had a stint with the Casey Scorpions (prior to its alignment with Melbourne) whose family has confirmed that he is a quadriplegic as a result of an accident during a recent local game - Family confirms footballer Casey a quadriplegic. I trust the football community will get behind the player and his family. Another former Casey player, Beau Vernon also suffered a similar terrible injury last year while playing for Leongatha.

that's awful. all the best to casey and his family.

really, it's surprising it doesn't happen more in the afl as well.

It is but thankfully it doesn't.

This is the website dedicated to Casey Tutungi - http://www.caseytutungi.com/

Please give consideration to helping Casey and his partner who are expecting a child soon.

His injury is a tragedy and, though he wasn't involved at the Scorps in the time of our alignment, I hope Demon fans are generous with their hearts for the family.

An absolute tragedy. Footy can be a brutal game, but at times like these it has a compassionate side. Time for the entire football community to dig deep for Casey, his partner and unborn babe. An important role here for the AFL.

Switched on to the game towards the end of the last quarter. They were playing in a lake! Rain bucketing down, and pools of water on the ground! Me thinks that experience just may take a lot out of Werribee, and make it that much harder for them to back up against Casey. Here's hoping, anyway...!

Looking like a heavy track again this weekend.

17 Melbourne players, if we're ever to break the Werribee hoodoo, surely this will be it!

Viney and Hogan.

This will be better viewing than our match in Geelong.

Viney, McKenzie, Couch, Magner, Rodan ... not far off being a better centre line-up than what we'll have at Geelong.

Jetta playing in the reserves. Looks like it could be the end for him

Wow. On his form early this year I thought he'd really cement a spot in the best 22, but after his suspension everything just went to shite for him.

Probably because it hasn't been played?

All the players named on the extended bench are also named in the field in the development league.

With the exception of Couch! Does that mean that he is a guaranteed starter in the ones?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
