Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Knightmare on Bugg:

So they're offering us an undersized utility in Buntine who could possibly make it as a mid and a lightly built tagger in Bugg. I'm not seeing anything we need there. Possibly the club sees two first round picks in these two plus pick 9 and like the math, but I'm not even remotely sold on this.

It's the overall benefit to the state of the list which is where I see the potential in this trade. We take a guy with pick 2 and we put a whole bunch of hope in him being a star and carrying a heavy load in the midfield whilst at the same time Nicholson and Magner continue to be the guys at Casey getting a kick and putting pressure on the 22, which isn't even real pressure because the coaches don't want to pick them anyway.

Make this trade and all of a sudden the guys at Casey not getting a game are Buntine and Bugg and the club wants to play them and so Clisby and Evans get dropped and then they play great at Casey to get back in. Builds a development model.

Obviously it's risky and they safer option is hope pick 2 becomes a star and along with Viney and Jones we got 3 A grade mids and then the rest of the team gets dragged along behind them. Doing the trade would mean you develop a more competent team all over the field and then you hope you develop a star out of someone who wasn't predicted. Remember Sydney's 3 midfield stars are Jack (rookie), Kennedy (trade for pick 40 odd), Hannebery (3rd? round pick). I'm sure part of the reason they look so good and became stars was because their development was aided by playing in a team that more often than not had 22 capable players fulfilling their roles.

May be just me because I am a big Shiel fan but I would say no to the two players on offer, I want Shiel and if they want Pick 2 that bad give us Shiel and pick 9, leave that hanging with them till last day of trade and they may come back with forget Pick 9 here is Shiel which I would take

I have a feeling.pick 2 will be on someone out of left field. Will be a good player but a name that hasnt been mentioned on here.

I think the recruiters will have their draft board obviously. And we know Boyd will go at 1 and Luke McDonald at 7 or whatever. So they'll have 7 names available between pick 2 and pick 9. Somewhere on that list will be Kelly and Aish I'm sure. But I agree it will also have 5 other names and who knows what order. The big question is how much of a difference do they rate the guy at the top of that list compared to the guy at the bottom.

I'd love that too but is it realistic?

Masterful tactics Pennant! You just have to bluff them that you are actually serious in demanding Shiel and pick 9. I must say that would be hard to pull off asking for that much!

I would definitely prefer Shiel. I was genuine emerging gun midfielders and my guts tells me this story came from a GWS source. I doubt we would accept this deal. Roos did say in his article that he wanted to add a defender, but we did have a midfield that Healy described as the worst he had ever seen in the AFL in 2013.

As for rumours - ill have some more tomorrow.

One thing we possibly need to get our heads around is working to the Roos type model, not necessarily getting one star with pick 2 but with players he is confident will play roles for him, will add to the team and are solid citizens.

Some of the players he traded for at Sydney had the rest of the clubs sniggering but he backed them in and developed them into their roles perfectly.

He may see this in these two blokes, and considering we still maintain a top ten pick we shouldn't dismiss this scenario so readily.

Trading in picks for unpolished gems who no one else rates highly was a speciality for Sydney and we need to damper our expectations of getting a recognised star and swap it for trust in what Roos sees as the bigger picture, and his coaching and development abilities.

After all isn't that why we are so excited about getting him to the club ?

But Roos never had a pick 2 to deal with.

Yes I was thinking this. But out midfield is just so poor - we really need to try and catch up on 4 years of lost talent in our midfield. The rest we can restructure and tinker with later. Engined mids are what we need desperately and in number,

Yep bluff them and offer the pick to other sides, what have Port offered for it, I think what is clear in all this is GWS have no intention of trading Pick 1. At the end of the day happy to take a Kelly or Aish at Pick 2

No one has said we're even entertaining this trade. Let's just take it easy, shall we? GWS may have proffered it, but nowhere that I've read even suggests we're remotely interested. Further, knowing this time of year, it's probably mindless speculation.

I'm not convinced that Bugg/Buntine are worth downgrading from 2 to 9. I just don't think they're that high enough quality to warrant taking pick 2 from us.

Good to hear we appear to have sealed Vince for 20, which I think is a good move.

I don't . I would want Lyons as well. 28 year old might get 1-2 years for a pick 20.

Im with you Redleg, dont like it at all. I would trade Lyons & Vince for 20, not Vince alone. I dont see any point in trading a pick in early 20's for a player who wll be lucky to play 2 years. Adelaide would be rubbing their hands together if they can land that pick for Vince alone.

If that deal is done and Crows pick well they could have a very good player playing for them 10years after Vince has retired. I want more for 20.

Agree with you entirely. While I think Vince would be a great acquisition, Adelaide would get a chance to take a long term player. They need to give a bit more than a 28 y.o for pick 20.

Disagree

We lost Sylvia and are in no position to be stuffing around in this draft. He must be replaced with someone experienced and as good or better than him, and Vince fits the bill perfectly.

We must show improvement next season and we must start winning games, and I will take Vince over a speculative pick 20 (which will end up being pick 23 after FA compo picks) to help us do that.

Bugg, Buntine and pick 9 for pick 2 is actually a bloody good deal for us

Those 2 kids have tremendous upside and at pick 9 we will be guaranteed to snap up one of Freeman, Kolodjashinsh, Lennon Crouch, Salem or Bontampelli.

And to be honest I rate them all equal to Aish or Scharenberg in what is a very even draft for the top 15 or so picks.

As of Friday it looked pretty grim for us regarding a trade with GWS but things seem to have shifted a little.

Here is the latest I have heard:

- Bugg was asked if he was interested in coming to the MFC. He said 'no'. It surprised me to read his name yesterday as I would say my source is ok. Not sure what to think about that one.

- Dom Tyson doesn't look to be going anywhere at the moment. He is very highly regarded up there and he hasn't gone to the club and requested a move. We did ask though. Same goes with Treloar who has settled well.

- The same cannot be said for Dylan Shiel who wants to come back to Melbourne. The city not necessarily the club. You can join the dots as I have (stupid me) but I do know that some people at clubland (GWS & others) were very amused by Roos' comments regarding trading players 12 months before their contract expires. It wasn't aimed at Frawley, or at least that is what other clubs think.

- GWS is extremely reluctant to trade Shiel but with this new development I can't see how we wouldn't be top of the pile as a trade destination as Dylan hadn't ruled us out last I heard.

- GWS really want pick 2. Really want it.

I honestly have no idea what GWS players would be involved but it would surprise to see Buntine in the red and blue. They love him.

I watch a fair bit of football and i have never heard of Bugg or Buntine, I had never heard of Mark Neeld either and look how that turned out. Give us Sheil and we'll do the deal, until then go back and have a rethink GWS......

"The Demons, who are also understood to have fielded offers from Port Adelaide for picks two and 20."

Wonder what the Port Adelaide offer could be?

Ollie!

Am I correct in thinking that one is not allowed to trade a player entering his second year post draft?

Good post JJJ.

Following our loss to GWS earlier this year, I attended the GWS post match function at which I spoke to several players and coaches.

They all universally stated that no GWS would ever want to move to the MFC. This was pre-Roos obviously, but I figured that our former number one draft pick had done a great job in running the club down - something which, unfortunately, had been backed up with incredibly poor performances.

I really hope we land Shiel. This would be our Shawshank Redemption moment as against some of those smug GWS smart asses (including in particular that serial nerd, Tom Scully).

Make it happen MFC.

just as a bit of an aside to this notion of a bundled deal out of GWS for 2

The filth are offerring up their picks 11 and 27 for WCE pick 6

if we did the GWS deal and got 9 could we not offer something similar but better and get 6 all but guaranteeing wed get a premium kid ?

Cake...icing...and eating it too ?

Could the MFC very cheekily pull off this..

GWS approached offered picks 2 20 and Jamar for pick 1. They're happy.

In the meantime, MFC on the blower to Collingwood, we take 10,11, Sidebottom for number 1.. Pies get prized possession in Boyd and we get a good midfielder and good picks.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side.
