Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - PAUL ROOS

Why are we sullying this with politics?

It's a mess across the board, and you can discuss it on the General Board.

This is for Footy, and specifically about Roos.

A bloke who might actually end up doing something.

Another point of difference to anyone in politics...

Just listened to the full press conference and loved Roos' media presence and clarity. But amid all this great stuff I thought PJ was quite rude when he said this is the most important thing to happen to this club since Barassi walked to Carlton in 1965. No. Two grand final appearances in 1988 and 2000 were more important. The Roos appointment is a great coup and I am wrapped but I didn't appreciate that comment from PJ at all. Disrespectful to others who worked hard years before he got here.

Means nothing if you dont win them.

It means something to get into a GF. It means a coach and players have clicked and we are one game away from success. Or are you suggesting that there is no difference to 2 wins under Neeld or a GF appearance?

Appointing Bailey and Neeld seemed great at the time. How about we wait and see what this turns into before we elevate it to being better than a GF appearance.

Watching tonight's game, maybe we should have hung-out from Alistair Clarkson!!??

Just joking. Forget the two GFs in which we were not competitive. This feels like 1987. I can't remember anything like this since Barassi returned with Moore & Templeton. I am excited & frightened. If Roos can't do it, I will probably never see a premiership!

I actually agree with PJ. My expectation is very high and I don't mean about how many wins next year. I see this appointment ( and indeed the appointment of PJ) as a redefinition of the once mighty, but recently irrelevant MFC.

Really interesting approach here. Both PJ and Roos have lined themselves up for "short term" stints to get the foundations right and then try to select then next generation to take over from then. Anyone know of a similar coaching/manager set up like this being successful around the world in the past? Certainly an AFL first and it may be a huge success.

Hoping this plays out well for us in the short and long term. Go team Roos!!

... new Melbourne coach Paul Roos – said he was “extremely excited” to lead the Demons for at least the next two seasons.

...

I’m extremely excited. I’m really looking forward to the next couple of years. I can’t wait to get started … in what is going to be a huge challenge.

Roos said his son Tyler said 'you’ve got to coach this club'.

I can't wait to start - Roos

I've said it all along that in spite of the on field issues which spilled across to the internal workings of the club (and possibly, rightly so), the Melbourne Football Club will always provide challenges for the right people. There's a groundswell of support today among Demon fans because of Roos' credentials and his will to succeed which puts us in a much better place than we've been for a long time.

We move on.

I just watched the presser.

I'm more pumped now than following the birth of my one and only son earlier this year.

I am in a totally good mood.

Yes - I've been trying to avoid mass hyperbole, but I don't think I can help it any more. I've felt like I've been in mourning since 186 (hence having '186' as my custom title), and now I finally feel like I might be able to start moving on. I think the new title is appropriate. :)

Here's a bag for anyone I've nauseated.

I thought we were pretty much "competitive" against the Bulldogs last week but that's not enough. We need to wipe out the lapses of 10-15 minutes in each game when we bleed opposition goals. Neither Neeld not Craig were able to stem the flow of goals when the opposition got on top. Hence, our appalling percentage.

I liked that he identified our pathetic percentage. The percentage is often more reflective of a team's performance than the 'w' and 'l' column.

I raised this in a discussion with a Richmond supporting mate, when he got cranky when I said I hope their mob got flogged by Carlton and he said something along the lines of "the forever struggling clubs should stick together". I nearly threw up.

Excluding GWS (because they haven't got any fans so nobody gets hurt), if you go back through recent history, the only team in the last 20 years to have percentage worse than ours this year was Fitzroy in 1996. Even the disastrous Fitzroy teams of 1994 and 1995 had a better percentage than us this year. The diabolical Carlton sides in the mid 00s managed percentages in the high 60s, low 70s. No other team has had to endure the gravity and regularity of the beltings that we've suffered in the last two years in particular. It's amazing we're all still here talking about it.

This is why I'm absolutely stoked to have the best coach in the business at the helm, even if it's only for a couple of years. Despite the gumbies on BigFooty moaning about AFL assistance or that Roos is only in it for the money (I don't follow this logic btw), we are clearly the worst side of the modern era and we desperately need help. With the right foundations in place we'll be able to move forward with a good coach like Simpson, Tudor etc, but we need the best of the best to get the foundations in place first.

I still can't wipe the smile off my face this morning. Like anything, Roos doesn't come with any guarantee of success, but at least we can be confident that if we can't get ourselves out of this hole it's not because we made a poor selection of senior coach.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
