The senior player confirmed the rumours that Bomber was mucking around with a popular team mate's girlfriend and was regularly indulging with stuff that you couldn't buy over the bar at the Geelong Ex-Servicemen's Club. Behaviour that didn't exactly win over the sheds.

Said that the senior players got sick of it, because he applied different standards and rules for himself to the player group. He also stated that, even though Bomber built the list, its senior leaders were (at that time) so good that they could virtually win big games despite the coach - and that, in his last year at the club, Bomber's influence was becoming more of a negative than a positive.

He observed that Scott was a top selection as coach, although this was perhaps a bit predictable/convenient given they had won the flag only a few weeks earlier.

I formed the view that they seemed to think Bomber was an extremely experienced/capable coach, but fundamentally a bit of a loose cannon by the end of his time at Geelong, although not in a wholly entertaining/positive way.

If we miss out on Roos - which IMO seems likely, despite some here reading between the lines and thinking a "no" actually means a "yes" - my vote goes strongly for Mark Williams.

I will be disappointed with anyone else given that Choco is ready to go, and passionately so. I reckon the players and supporters alike would absolutely love the personality infusion that he'd inject into this tired old club.

See, I think it could all still be smoke and mirrors. We've really no idea what's going on behind the scenes here. For argument's sake, Roos may well have accepted as soon as Jackson approached him. Jackson may not be keen on having a dead chook sitting in the coaches chair for the next 10 weeks and so has decided to hold off on declaring Roos coach until after the new board and president are officially unveiled.

I'm putting this out there because I too have a slight reservation about Roos' commitment. It may well have been put to rest had he come out straight away and said I'll take the job. Ultimately though, we can't possibly know his inner workings at this stage.

My opinion would change based on observed behaviour - I'd hope that relevant information would influence every decision I make!

As for Roos, I'd be less concerned, but not happy.

After all the eff ups we've made, I need to see a hall of lot to believe.

I've said my piece about Roos. From afar, I think he is a 'bloods' man and he has no drive for us. That is ok - if the Dees dropped out of the competition I would not follow AFL. I get it.

I guess we'll see how it plays out...

I have made a similar point and I agree with what you say but the enviroment of hiring a new coach has changed - we cannot interview anyone contracted elsewhere until their season has finished.

This really gives Jackson the leg-room to delay until the end of the season and that means that Roos has time to make a decision.

Maybe he just realises that? And that is why he isn't considering it at the moment?

It's all supposition...but I agree with you and Craig; passion is pre-requisite for a coach.

The more time goes, the more Craig could find that his determination and 'want' are matched by a clarity of purpose - which to this point he can not have had as he was Neeld's support. I reckon Neil burns for a chance to do it again - to prove a few blokes wrong and to climb the mountain. He loves footy, is a footy person and is at the base of the biggest mountain in AFL. I reckon the size of the challenge and the chance to tell everything (time, fate, the media) to [censored] off and watch this resurrection will seduce him.

My bet is that he will coach us next year because he'll know he wants it and the players will fall for the harness + care that he brings.

The Bookmakers have him at 4th in line, behind Williams, Eade & Craig.

I couldn't see them framing a market in effectively what is a 4 horse race, and having ROOS the outsider, they have done their homework which is their method of due diligence

and have come up their judgement that he has no chance.

I do wonder what light Craig would be seen in if he wasn't at the Dees right now. I think he would be seen on a par with Eade and possibly Williams.

I hope the players respond in these last 9 games, his fate is tied to that - no matter how unfair that is.

But it does give Jackson an incrediable insight into how he would be a Head Coach.

Frankly, my mood is always hopeful but I am very glad that I can say that we will be coached next year by either Paul Roos, Mark Williams, Rodney Eade, or Neil Craig.

Cameron Ling might be a wise long term consideration

Has premiership credibility Has been part of a culture rebuild and was influential in maintaining that culture has been an interesting commentator with a broad and developing view on different techniques through his current exposure

seems to still have the fire and has a passion for the game

If he could work with someone like Craig or Roos as the senior mentor even for a short time while he develops his own style it could be fantastic

I would even probably prefer Roos in that role as Craig may be tainted with Neeld connection where Roos comes in clean with his record for developing and leaving a strong culture

It would obviously be critical how the two get on

But well worth exploring and I do not have any personal criticism of Craig

It may also be worth long discussion with Frawley who it was reported has now seen 6 coaches in 7 years

I would definitely sound him out about options

I would also be having informal and formal discussions with players as stakeholders and keeping them in the loop as to what will be forming the decision

I thought along very similar lines Binman, however Craig has all but ruled himself out of the GM position.

My optimist side is telling me we'll have a string of Monday morning press conferences from 2 weeks out from the end of the season to announce our arrivals to help build some momentum into the new season

Monday August 19 heading into Round 22 a press conference to announce the new Head of Football is Matthew Drain. A big thankyou to Josh Mahoney who is no longer required.

Monday August 26 heading into our final game a press conference is called to announce Paul Roos as our new Senior Coach effective as of the end of the season. A big thanks to Neil Craig who will step into the role of development coach for our 1st & 2nd year players while Todd Viney becomes our specialist opposition analyst and Dave Misson will stay on in his role. Assistant coaching changes and board movements to be made in coming weeks, but yes Paul does know what they will be.

Monday September 2, Cameron Ling has signed on as the new midfield coach with Brian Royal making way.

Monday September 9, Shane Woewodin is returning to Melbourne as our new backline coach. Jade Rawlings moved on.
