Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Stubborn and deluded, yet somehow remaining likable.

I mean... pffff, he just believes he did nothing wrong, at all.

I wish someone asked him if we're still a mathematical chance of making the finals.

Gary flippantly said everyone makes mistakes re the experienced coach search. The dodger.

I feel sorry for him ever being recruited into what has proven to be a rabble of a club..........the admin at the time were idiots for appointing him.

That said, he did his best to hang himself too.

Pretty simple and clear KPI in coaching...............win games of footy.

Rebuilding or not doesn't absolve you of that responsibility and he knows it.

I reckon he's actually relieved to be out of it anyway, and is probably quite happy it's all over.

Was more like one of his pressors.

he won't dump in club and won't admit to losing players because he wants a future.

he avoided the Moloney thing well.

otherwise not really worth waiting up for other than the freeman interview.

Not sure why he needed to appear at all

IMO there was nothing to gain

Was painful to watch him try to justify the last 18 months

Suppose its time we all moved on

People Are commending him for this interview, which I find unbelievable.
Yes he showed some guts going on and he handled him self well.
But he continued to not take any blame for anything done and continued to say that all decisions made were right REALLY?
Bailey in his exit was as if not more classy and dignified, but he did take responsibility for alot of the failings!!!
Neeld is just either arrogant, ignorant or is just plainly lying.

A bit of a rundown.

Said he felt the players supported him and the fact that the whole team turned up at the presser was a good show of support.

Said Watts is developing fine, pointed out his attack on the contest last game.

Took one minor swipe at the club saying he was hired to do a job over three years and got half of that to do it in.

Refused to back down on appointing Trenners and Grimes as captains. Repeated the same thing that they had a set of criteria and the two of them were streets ahead of the rest of the club.

Recruiting. Said that they had turned over 14 players and they couldn't have drafted 14 kids to replace them. Had to get them from somewhere.

Once again said that Hogan and Toumpas were recruited for the long-term. Ties in with the fact that he was given a three year contract.

Said he would probably be envious of whoever was coaching next year with Clark, Dawes and Hogan running around the forward line.

No, he would not change his approach given his time over. He did what needed to be done.

Was attacked pretty hard on Rivers and Moloney. Shot down the questions on Riv pretty easily. Refused to get drawn on how petty Moloney was being.

Not much else said really. Refused to give them a sound bite of him rubbishing the club, the processes or his sacking. I wish we could have had something new but it wasn't that great an interview by the panel and he played a straight bat to most of it. Wished the players and the new club luck

No, Bailey dumped us right into the tanking saga.

No, Bailey dumped us right into the tanking saga.

I'm not buying that at all. He did allude to the fact that some moves were made that weren't exactly best for winning, but to say he dumped us in it is ridiculous. They didn't investigate it for another year and a half, so what Bailey said that day had no influence on the AFL's decision to finally investigate.

Also people may have forgotten how much class he really showed on that day. When I felt both Stynes (sorry to say) and Schwab lowered their colours by not sitting next to bailey when he took the questions. I remember the media did end up saying how well he came across

what a load of garbage

his comments slipped under the radar until dogface boofhead bogan opened his disloyal arrogant mouth on FC

then Bailey's comments became front and centre

that was an FU to the club from a bloke who had just been sacked, and it ended up being contributory to the sstrorm that followed, no doubt

The AFL straight after Bailey's sacking came out and said that what Bailey said was of no interest to them in terms of potential tanking!

Why does it suddenly change when Brock makes his comments. The answer for me is they didn't. Bailey's comments at the time had no significants on the whole tanking investigation. He just said that the decisions made over his time were not always looking towards winning but towards the development in the team.

Vitriol towards Garry is pretty unbelievable. I bet the people, hindsight merchants as Lyon called them, who are condemning him for picking Neeld were the ones getting all excited when he came in and appointed the new panel. Garry admitted on the show that he was disappointed the decision he helped make didn't pan out, and said to the Melbourne supporters not to worry he'll stay out. Pretty disgusted in this, that a former champion of our club, the centrepiece of the ****** banner for gods sake gets slandered like this for trying to help the club. He'd be hurting as much as any of us would over the past few years.

There were a number of posters that questioned the basis of responsibility and accountability in which the "saviour" was appointed to MFC in 2011. They also questioned the haphazard process of coach recruitment and why we went for an unskilled coach (after Bailey) after stating that we would go for an experienced coach. This was part of a series of issues arising over the slipshod termination process of Bailey and the surrounding knee jerk decisions of the Board.

But they were howled down indeed by those sycophants that were proclaiming the saviour. The skeptics have been sadly vindicated.

Despite a number of efforts of the previous MFC Boards to get Lyon to join the Board, Lyon has chosen his media career. Fair enough. But under the now dissolving Stynes/McLardy administration, Lyon has enjoyed all the trappings of influence as one of the "mates" without any of the accountability for that. His role in 2011 approved by the Board was unusual to say the least. And the results now plainly speak for themselves.

At least we don't have the naive calls for Lyon to coach us. Heaven forbid.

Thanks for posting this RM, we don't get FC in Queensland so it was good to get an idea of what was said.

2 points that you have posted that I would like to comment further on;

1. The fact that he keeps talking about a forward line with Clark in it next year is a big positive for me. My gut feel was Clark may struggle to get back on the park, but obviously the club is quite positive, which is good to hear!

2. He has a point about being hired to do a job over 3 years and only got half of that time. Regardless of our ladder position, win/loss ratio, etc, etc, if you are told you have 3 years to achieve something, all your planning and preparation is based on that timeframe. If your plan is on track, of course you're not going to have results in half the time. There would've been an expectation that Malthouse would win a flag at Carlton within a certain period - just because it isn't going to be this year doesn't mean he's failing. But, if he had KPI's to meet at carious milestone points and was considerably under achieving, then you have to take responsibility for that.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
