Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The argument for "no rookie coaches ever again" is really dumb. All premiership coaches were rookies at some time or another. We need the right person. We need experience now, because we need to unite behind a name and get some immediate confidence. But Roos, Clarkson, Worsfold, Longmire are all great recent coaches who came into a club as a 1st time senior coach and became premiers. Don't just feel stuff... think!!!

Didn't Jeff say Clarkson (or people in general) shouldn't stay at the same place more than 5 or 7 years so a Clarko/Kennett move to the Dees would still work.

I think you might find there was a lot more to it than that and that it's likely bad blood exists between them.

My personal opinion is that there is far less certainty surrounding a "rookie coach".

Experience counts for a lot and we can't have someone learning on the job.

Having tried this route twice, consecutively and failed miserably, and given our predicament, I think it would be lunacy to go around again.

There are no guarantees even with a proven coach, but surely you can be more confident.

Caro's view is we should take Williams.

Take that as you wish.

After all the crap that has been heaped on her she has turned out to be correct in a few areas.

I will add GD to that I used to hate him but again he got quite a few things right.

Both have gained credence in the last three months.

The big thing about getting a proven coach is they start with credibility.

That enables them to weather the very hard times ahead.

No one will be asking half way through the first year can this person coach?

We will all know they can, so it therefore must be the players.

Clarkson signed a 3 year deal extension with Hawthorn in 2011. So that means he'll be contracted for 2014 does it not?

So we'd not only have to offer him a massive deal to get him across but also he'd have to break his contract with Hawthorn. All on the back of leaving a top 4 club with a shot at a flag this year and next year. For a team in the biggest trouble in decades.

Oh and he played 40 odd games for us in 96 and 97, I'm not sure he'd really feel a great debt to the club.

We had our chance to get Clarkson in 2011. And instead of Lyon pleading with his mate, forcing him into a meeting at least and going as hard as possible he simply reached out to his manager and got knocked back.

Same story goes for Ross Lyon who I'm sure if we ponied up the cash that Freo did would've gladly kept the family in Melbourne.

Well he undoubtedly signed a three year deal so to get him across we'd have to offer a huge deal that would make it worthwhile for him to fight Hawthorn or a deal where by someone caretaker coaches the team for an entire season that's not speculation.

I'm speculating he doesn't feel a great deal for the club he played 2 seasons with. When you are a career coach/player he's been at North, Werribee, Central Districs, Port and Hawthorn. After all that does he really love us. He also confirmed the other day there was an offer put to his manager but not directly to him, that's not speculation. I am speculating that if we made Ross Lyon a big deal like Freo did he would've been interested.

So the answer is two. And as far as I'm concerned they are much lesser speculations than the people who are blindly saying Clarkson will coach us.

To me it appears we had a window in 2011 to ambitiously get one of Lyon or Clarkson to take over a list on the rise at a club that was freshly debt free. Now here we are in 2013 facing massive losses that we mean fresh debt, a list in disarray and the coaching candidates (both experienced and inexperienced) seem rather limited.

Roos would be great but is unlikely.

Williams just might bring a friend over in Dustin Martin who is out of contract.

I think you are dreaming Robbie57

He is a Richmond lock!

apollo bay had a position vacant , why not there?

a good seachange and close to the action in melbourne , so he couldve usurped a senoir coach from down here if needed

Because Hill Billy from the Otways has a 5 year contract there and is quite comfortable there.

What are the odds that when on the couch starts tonight, instead of Gerard Healy waxing lyrical about the goings on of the day, we cut straight to Paul Roo's, resplendent in a pink shirt, and he just says "No".

this continues every week until the finals, or he smacks Mike Sheehan after Mike says "but thats what hirdy said" one time to many....

Choco would be initial preference, but we should explore all options this time around and consider another first time coach. We need someone who is positive, willing to take risks and willing work with a smaller coaching team. (We would be better spending the money on recruiting.) It would be good to have a decision made before September.

Couldn't have put it better myself OD.

The only thing i would add to that is.....

1. An experienced successfull coach is potentially more marketable. Especially when trying for Friday night/Blockbuster exposure at some point (emphasis on "at some point")

2. Supporters, Sponsors and players are driven by hope, potential but most importantly that "winning" feeling and an expectancy that they might taste the ultimate in success. An experienced coach offers all of that and in the end will deliver something that goes someway towards fullfilling it subject to a complete disaster befalling him through injuries or well....a curse or something like that

3. Most supporters and sponsers will also get this and weather any short term storm/volatility and are more likely to stick fat for longer. Better on the bottom line generally. And we all know (as does AD) where that's at right now

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim
